Hugo walked alongside Celeste, his hands casually tucked into his pockets, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips.

The night air was cool, a soft breeze rolling in as the dim glow of streetlights cast golden halos on the pavement.

But Hugo wasn’t paying attention to any of that. Oh, no.

His focus was solely on the fact that every single man they had passed—every single one—had given him a look that ranged from pure envy to absolute despair.

And Hugo? Hugo was eating it up.

In his mind, he could already hear the internal screams of the men watching him escort this absolute goddess home.

"How?! HOW?!" they must have been thinking. "This dude? This guy?! How did he pull her?!"

Hugo wished he could stop and give them a little wink, maybe even a casual shrug, just to let them know that, yes, he was indeed built different.

But, unfortunately, he had an image to maintain, and rubbing his victory in their faces would make him look childish. (Even if it would be really fun.)

Celeste, of course, was completely oblivious to the male suffering happening all around her.

She walked confidently, her leather jacket draped over her shoulders, her silver-streaked hair slightly tousled from the night’s activities.

Her gorgeous eyes shimmered under the streetlights, her full lips curling into a smirk every time Hugo said something amusing.

She had this effortless coolness to her, the kind that made even walking down the street look like a scene out of a music video.

"You know," Celeste said suddenly, breaking the silence. "Claire isn’t all that bad, she’s just a bit too crazy."

Hugo turned his head slightly, intrigued. "Oh?"

"Yeah. We’ve known each other since we were kids, and we’ve always been… let’s just say, a little too adventurous for our own good." She let out a low chuckle.

"Like, we once tried to sneak into a yacht party full of billionaires just for fun."

Hugo raised an eyebrow. "Did you actually get in?"

She shrugged. "Almost. We got caught halfway up the dock and had to pretend we were lost rich kids looking for our dad’s boat."

Hugo laughed. "Let me guess. You had a whole fake story planned out?"

"Obviously," she said smoothly. "You always need a backup plan when you’re living life on the edge."

Hugo nodded, amused. "Okay, so you’re reckless and a professional liar. Got it."

"Wow," she scoffed, nudging him playfully. "Way to make it sound bad."

Hugo smirked, his eyes flickering over to her face. And for the first time since they had left the club, he really looked at her.

The way the soft glow of the streetlights reflected off her smooth skin. The way her lips parted slightly when she smiled.

The way her long lashes framed those sharp, knowing eyes.

Damn.

He had been so focused on the jealousy of other men that he had completely missed the fact that he was really, really into this girl.

And in that moment, he decided to go for it.

As they reached the front of her building, he leaned in slightly, tilting his head just enough to make his intentions clear.

His heart pounded a little, not from nervousness, obviously, but from anticipation. He was Hugo. He did not get nervous!

Celeste turned toward him, her gaze unreadable. Then, at the very last second—the absolute last second—she tilted her head to the side.

And instead of her lips, Hugo’s mouth landed directly on her cheek.

For a second, his brain completely short-circuited.

Wait. What. What just happened.

Then he heard her chuckle, low and teasing. "Nice try," she murmured, pulling back slightly. "But I’m not that easy."

Hugo blinked. Processing… Processing… Error 404.

Celeste smiled, her fingers grazing his chin playfully. "You’ll have to wait till our date tomorrow."

Hugo inhaled sharply. Then exhaled. Then sighed.

He wanted to be annoyed, but instead, he found himself smirking. This girl…

"Well," he said smoothly, recovering like a champ. "I do enjoy a challenge."

Celeste winked. "Good. Then I’ll see you tomorrow."

Hugo turned around, rubbing the back of his head as he made his way toward the nearest bike stand.

Sure, the kiss hadn’t gone as planned, but it wasn’t a total loss. He still had two weeks left until the end of his monthly mission, and rushing things would only make him look desperate.

Besides, he had plenty of time.

Right?

The next day, Hugo found himself walking into Sanchez’s mansion, stretching his arms lazily as he yawned.

It was too early for this, but apparently, there was some "emergency" that his overly dramatic cousin needed him for.

Sanchez, standing near a massive mirror in his custom designer suit, turned to look at Hugo with pure horror.

"Hugo, my man—what in the seven koala kingdoms are you wearing?!"

Hugo blinked, looking down at his casual jeans and hoodie. "Uh… Clothes?"

Sanchez ran a hand down his face. "You look like you just rolled out of bed."

Hugo yawned. "Because I did."

Sanchez sighed deeply. "I can’t believe this. Today is huge, and you show up looking like a college dropout."

Hugo frowned. "Uh, first of all, I am a college student. Second of all, what’s the big deal?"

Sanchez dramatically waved his hands. "I told you! I have a very important meeting today with the members of high society—the people I need to impress if I ever want to expand my business into elite circles!"

Hugo narrowed his eyes. "Did you tell me that?"

Sanchez hesitated. "...I meant to."

Hugo crossed his arms. "Right. And how exactly is this my problem?"

Sanchez groaned. "Because, my dear cousin, you are my famous model."

Hugo rolled his eyes. "I was your startup model. I was never supposed to be a full-time flex prop for you."

Sanchez clasped his hands together. "Hugo, buddy, listen—"

"No."

"I’ll give you five grand."

"No. It’s not about the money."

"I’ll take you to that expensive steakhouse you’ve been dying to try."

Hugo paused.

Sanchez smirked. "Got you."

Hugo sighed dramatically. "Fine. But just so we’re clear—I’m doing this for the steak."

Sanchez grinned, clapping him on the shoulder. "That’s my guy!"

Hugo smirked. "Damn right."
