Chapter 53: Chapter 32 Confrontation

Passing through the villa’s garden, one arrives at the training ground.

This training field had been modified. The surface level featured an exercise room spanning over two hundred square meters equipped with a complete variety of machines. Next to it, there were a meditation room, a massage room, a rest area, and a standard swimming pool, though it seemed that no one had used it for quite some time.

One level below the ground, the area spans over a thousand square meters, with a height of nearly five meters.

The inside was wide and empty, with the floor made of large, high-strength alloy plates, and crystal lights installed on the walls and ceiling for illumination.

This was a rectangular martial arts arena.

All four team members entered the martial arts arena, and Ren Mian said, "Xinghuo, Zhonglin, you two warm up and prepare to spar with each other."

Chi Zhonglin immediately began stretching his limbs, his muscles rippling into action.

Ji Xinghuo, on the other hand, was jogging around the martial arts arena.

Gradually speeding up his pace, he completed two laps in just a few minutes, his body and Star Power mobilized, heating up slightly as he entered the ready state.

"Alright."

Ren Mian called the two of them back.

With anticipation, Chi Zhonglin asked, "Sister Ren, how should I fight? How much strength should I use?"

"With all your might, but don’t seriously injure him," Ren Mian admonished. "Try to simulate a real battle and unleash the strength you should have." She then turned to Xinghuo, "Xinghuo, any issues?"

"No," Ji Xinghuo shook his head.

He was actually very eager; since becoming a Mutant, he hadn’t yet fought a prepared battle. Killing Ji Zongbang was an accidental occurrence.

He was also unaware of his real strength.

Chi Zhonglin was very strong, which served as a perfect test stone to see how far he could go.

Ren Mian nodded, "Then get ready."

Chi Zhonglin stretched out his hand for a shake with Ji Xinghuo, his expression serious, "Little brother Xinghuo, don’t blame me for being too heavy-handed later; it’s what Sister Ren asked for."

Ji Xinghuo gave a slight smile.

Although he didn’t utter any harsh words, the other three people present could all feel his determination and confidence, as if everything was under his control.

Chi Zhonglin’s face grew solemn by several degrees, while surprise appeared in Jiangnan Caiyi’s eyes.

They were unaware that Ji Xinghuo was only a Primary Level Mutant. Only Ren Mian, who knew this fact, was even more anticipatory of what kind of performance Ji Xinghuo could provide.

A Primary Level Mutant against an Advanced Mutant.

Moreover, it was a confined battle, a scenario quite disadvantageous for a Ranger.

Chi Zhonglin, carrying a long spear, moved to one end of the martial arts arena and lifted the spear high towards Ji Xinghuo, saying, "Be cautious, this ’Molten Rock Gun’ in my hand is a Superpower One Star Weapon. It was forged by incorporating ’Molten Lava Fire Lizard’ Alien Species materials and can deal high-temperature damage."

Ji Xinghuo stood at the other end of the martial arts arena. Hearing Chi Zhonglin’s words, he took a closer look at the long spear in his hand.

It was actually a Superpower Weapon!

The common weapon equipment ranging from a few hundred to tens of thousands, all belong to the "Ordinary" level;

Weapons and equipment using top-grade materials and manufacturing techniques, that fully harness the properties of the materials, are considered "Fine" level.

Ji Xinghuo’s Yi Feng compound bow was of this sort, a Fine One Star.

His Composite Cerasteel Lightweight Armor was a Fine Two Stars.

The Capacitor Arrow was considered Fine Three Stars.

The rest, like the Flat-headed Goose Wing Knife and the tactical knife, were only of Ordinary Level.

Above the Fine category is the "Superpower" level, forged by integrating Alien Species materials, wielding abilities and powers far surpassing the Fine category.

Fine and Superpower levels are further divided into three stars.

One Star is the lowest, and Three Stars the highest.

A Superpower One Star weapon is priced at least over three million Ya Yuan. If it reaches Superpower Three Stars, it could be worth tens to even hundreds of millions.

Above Superpower is the "Apocalypse" level, but there are hardly any in the world.

"Yi Feng compound bow, Fine One Star," Ji Xinghuo, emulating Chi Zhonglin, briefly introduced his weapon.

The difference in equipment between the two was significant.

However, this was meant to simulate real combat, where the enemy would never switch to similar weaponry simply because they have an advantage.

The two stood at either end of the martial arts arena, over thirty meters apart.

The martial arts arena quieted down.

"Begin!"

Ren Mian uttered sharply.

Almost simultaneously with her command, Ji Xinghuo released an arrow.

The space of the martial arts arena was too confined, so he had to take the initiative. If Chi Zhonglin managed to get close, it would be nearly impossible for him to win.

Chi Zhonglin, with his rich combat experience, naturally knew that closing the distance was his sole path to victory.

His knees bent, his legs erupted with power, and he shot forward like a rocket.

At the same time, his body inflated like a balloon, swelling up a size larger in an instant. Standing over two meters tall, his clothes burst from his swelling form, his muscles shimmered with green luminescence. His skin turned green, his hair became like wispy fungal strands, and his hairstyle transformed into a large mushroom cap.

It looked somewhat amusing, but the explosive strength was palpable!

With each step Chi Zhonglin took, half of the martial arts arena shook, as though a raging giant charged at Ji Xinghuo.

He had only taken three steps when the arrow arrived.

Pop!

Chi Zhonglin lifted his long spear, his strength as solid as a mountain, his technique as light as a feather, elegantly deflecting the arrow.

The integration of a Rotating Magnetic Field had drastically increased Ji Xinghuo’s strength, and he had also adjusted the draw weight of his compound bow to 108 kilograms, equivalent to 240 pounds!

This arrow was a Straight Feather Willow Leaf Arrow, exceptionally fast and powerful.

Chi Zhonglin deflected the arrow, and his charge inevitably slowed, even if only for a fraction of a second. Still, in just three steps, he had covered ten meters, reducing the distance between him and Ji Xinghuo by a third.

As he took the fourth step, the second arrow followed closely behind.

This arrow was shot at a tricky angle, aiming directly at the chest, neither too high nor too low, a spot that was hardest to defend with a spear.

Chi Zhonglin held his spear horizontally in front of him and spun it, flicking the arrow away.

Even as his momentum slowed down again, he closed in a few more meters, leaving only about fifteen meters between himself and Ji Xinghuo. For an Advanced Mutant, such a distance was practically arm’s reach, merely a couple of large strides away.

The third arrow shot toward Chi Zhonglin’s knee, but he dodged it with a slight sidestep before continuing his charge toward Ji Xinghuo.

In the last ten meters, Ji Xinghuo loosed another two arrows.

Neither hit Chi Zhonglin, but they prevented him from charging at full speed, significantly reducing his burst of velocity.

Chi Zhonglin had closed to within five meters of Ji Xinghuo, his body swollen to over two and a half meters tall, looking like a genuine green giant!

The Molten Rock Gun, weighing over sixty kilograms, felt as light as a straw in his hands.

The barrel glowed red, and waves of heat rolled off it.

Chi Zhonglin thrust out simply with his spear, the tip piercing the air, emitting a sonic boom-like scream as it sped straight for Ji Xinghuo’s throat.

If this thrust hit its mark, and without any pullback, Ji Xinghuo would be dead without a doubt.

However, Ji Xinghuo’s face showed no sign of panic; a spark like lightning flashed in his eyes, his right foot stomped down, ripping through the sole of his shoe, and in an instant, the current spread along the metallic floor, electrifying the entire ground of the Martial Arts Arena.

In the Star Realm, no circuits or electrical appliances exist, so buildings don’t need to be designed with insulation in mind.

The same went for this Martial Arts Arena.

Ren Mian and Jiangnan Caiyi, who were watching from a distance, felt nothing as their shoes were intact, but Chi Zhonglin, having already burst out of his own from the expansion of his body, was barefoot on the ground.

Instantly, Chi Zhonglin’s movements froze, his entire body was numbed by the electric shock.

"Damn it!"

Chi Zhonglin let out an odd cry.

The long spear, guided by inertia, aimed at Ji Xinghuo, but Ji Xinghuo had anticipated this, his speed and explosive power enhanced by the active Rotating Magnetic Field, and he sidestepped away from the spear’s tip with a swift body flick.

He did not move to the side, but instead closed in on Chi Zhonglin.

Their faces were almost touching.

Any other Ranger would have discarded their bow and drawn their Yan Chi Blade for direct melee combat at this range.

But Ji Xinghuo did not do so; as he moved in closer to Chi Zhonglin, his composite bow was already nocked with another arrow, and it was a Capacitor Arrow worth ten thousand Ya Yuan.

With the Rotating Magnetic Field at full power, he pinched the base of the arrow with two fingers of his right hand, causing it to distort and generate an electric current. Amplified by the Rotating Magnetic Field, the entire arrow lit up, visible arcs of electricity danced along its shaft, and the air filled with the smell of charred matter.

Chi Zhonglin saw it all, but his whole body was paralyzed, his reactions significantly slowed.

There was nothing he could do.

Ji Xinghuo almost pressed the arrow’s tip against Chi Zhonglin’s forehead, like a gun, ready to fire a stunning shot with just a release of his fingers.

At such a close distance, Chi Zhonglin had no way to avoid it.

"Stop!"

Ren Mian called out hastily.

Ji Xinghuo immediately halted the Rotating Magnetic Field, and the fully drawn bowstring began to relax, the arcs of electricity on the Capacitor Arrow fading away.

The electric shock paralysis on Chi Zhonglin receded at once, but he didn’t dare to be careless. A layer of black scales emerged from his face to his neck, shining with a metallic luster and hardness, even covering his eyelids.

Only when Ji Xinghuo moved the composite bow away did the black scales slowly recede.

"Phew..."

Chi Zhonglin’s body shrank back to its normal size.

He glanced at the metal floor, his face still showing traces of fear from the electric shock he had just experienced, and he couldn’t help asking, "What Ability is this?"

Ji Xinghuo was not merciless and replied truthfully, "Rotating Magnetic Field."

Even without saying so, a closer observation would reveal that it was the Rotating Magnetic Field, unless one chose not to use it. But without using the Rotating Magnetic Field, winning against Chi Zhonglin would be too difficult.

"Damn it!" Chi Zhonglin’s eyes bulged, "Weren’t you a Ranger? How did you turn into a Magnetic Field Madman?"

Ji Xinghuo smiled, "The two aren’t incompatible."

Chi Zhonglin was at a loss for words.

"Brilliantly done!"

Ren Mian and Jiangnan Caiyi walked over.

Ren Mian clapped softly, praising, "Xinghuo, you’re much stronger than I expected. A Magnetic Field Madman, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen this profession." The realisation dawned in her eyes as she finally understood why Ji Xinghuo’s Perception was so powerful—it was magnetic field sensing.

"This is my first time seeing it," Jiangnan Caiyi said with curious eyes, "the Earth’s mightiest professional templates, truly living up to their reputation!"

"How could my hand-picked teammates be ordinary Rangers?" Ren Mian was quite proud of her own judgment.

"Ren, does this mean I win this duel?" Ji Xinghuo asked.

"Is that how you count it?"

Before Ren Mian could answer, Chi Zhonglin started speaking up, "Even if you had let that arrow fly, I wouldn’t have died. Your arrow might not have been able to pierce my ’Dragon Scale,’ and I have the ’Fungal Giant’ too, granting me a powerful self-healing ability, so three or four arrows wouldn’t have mattered."

"As long as I withstand that arrow, you would have lost."

"I’m a Ninth Dan Martial Artist, just one contest away from being a Spear Master, and you couldn’t even take one of my strikes..."

Chi Zhonglin was dismayed; he hadn’t been able to use even thirty percent of his strength before the fight was stopped.

Ji Xinghuo was taken aback.

The Dragon Scale, the Fungal Giant!

Both were Transcendent Abilities, especially the Fungal Giant, a rare Transformation Element Ability granting all the abilities of a real fungal giant upon activation.

Strength surged, outrageously exaggerated self-healing, and stamina, and the ability to enter a Frenzy!

The Defense Power of the Dragon Scale was also fearsome. This Ability, derived from the "Dragon," was as hard as the metal tungsten, nearly impervious to blades and spears.

In the fight, Chi Zhonglin also demonstrated "Minute Observation" and "Star Force."

That’s why his spear skills were so exquisite, stronger than those of a pure Martial Artist.

Ji Xinghuo admitted that if the two of them fought to the death, without activating "Myriad Phenomena," it would be almost impossible for him to kill Chi Zhonglin.

"Shall we call it a draw?" he suggested.

Chi Zhonglin was about to agree when Ren Mian suddenly chuckled, "Xinghuo is a Primary Level Mutant, and it’s been less than two months since he fused with his Ability." It was what Ji Xinghuo had told her the night before.

Jiangnan Caiyi’s pupils shook.

Clang!

"How is that possible?"

The Molten Rock Gun fell from Chi Zhonglin’s hand; he looked at Ji Xinghuo as if he were a monster. After being stunned for a few seconds, he suddenly said, "I admit defeat! I lost this match!"
