Supreme Electromagnetic Tyrant-Chapter 72 - 47: Stone Scythe Giant Demon_2
Chapter 72: Chapter 47: Stone Scythe Giant Demon_2
"Because you’re a Mutant?" Ji Xinghuo guessed.
"Yes."
Chi Zhonglin’s eyes held resignation, "At first, they were all happy for me becoming a Mutant, but as my strength grew stronger, they gradually distanced themselves."
"Social circles, the people and things one encounters, the experiences one goes through, everything is different. Even, when I’m with them, I have to be extremely careful, fearing that I might hurt them by accident. Although they don’t say it, I can still feel the fear and pressure they have when facing me..."
He slightly clenched his fist, crushing the air in his palm with a muffled sound.
"It’s like the difference between a hunter and its prey."
"The larger the gap in strength between Mutants and ordinary people, the harder it is to maintain an equal relationship."
"After all, with just the use of a finger, or even a mere thought, we could take their lives."
"This intense contrast of strength between the strong and the weak trumps any other social relationship, even surpassing the gulf between species."
"Even if we desperately suppress our own strength and keep a low profile, just that psychological pressure alone can make ordinary people subconsciously avoid Mutants."
Chi Zhonglin looked at Ji Xinghuo, "You will soon understand this feeling as well."
Ji Xinghuo pondered thoughtfully.
Indeed, this conversation enlightened him; his second brother, Zhong Ming, was the first in the family to become a Mutant, entering the league club and consequently distancing himself from his siblings. He had thought it was because Zhong Ming was too busy with training and competitions, but now he realized that wasn’t the whole reason.
Right now everyone is young, just graduated or even not yet graduated, and their social statuses are similar, so there won’t be any issues for a while.
But in a few years, they may encounter the same problem as Chi Zhonglin.
"Is there a solution?" Ji Xinghuo asked.
"No."
Chi Zhonglin spread his hands, "You can only let it be, unless you can find a way to turn your whole family into Mutants. Otherwise, you have to aim higher, make new friends, and move into new circles. At first, it may be painful because people cling to the past, but time will dilute everything."
Ji Xinghuo nodded, deciding not to dwell on the issue any longer.
"Woo..."
A long howl suddenly came from afar.
"What’s that sound?" Ji Xinghuo sat up straight, looking in the direction of the howl.
"Sounds like the call of the Stone Scythe Demon." Chi Zhonglin gazed into the distance, "This howl is strange, it’s carrying so far."
They had often heard the calls of the Stone Scythe Demons these days; they were active during Star Night as well, occasionally letting out a few cries, seemingly as a way to mark their territory.
But this cry was different.
The two exchanged glances, sharing the same suspicion.
Ren Mian and Jiangnan Caiyi climbed up from the cave, having also heard the howl and asking about the situation.
Ji Xinghuo walked to the edge of the Floating Mountains where the view was wide open. Even though visibility during Star Night wasn’t as good as day, the Wanxiang Star Pupil could clearly see up to five kilometers away.
His gaze swept back and forth.
Finally, about four kilometers to the left, he spotted something unusual.
It was a large group of Stone Scythe Demons, too numerous to count, running swiftly between mountains and covering the hillsides as if they were chasing some prey. Amidst chaos, there was an order, forming a huge encirclement.
Boom, boom, boom...
The ground below began to tremble, and the horde of Stone Scythe Demons was getting closer.
"Woo woo woo!"
The calls of the Stone Scythe Demons were incessant.
Shortly after, hundreds of different beasts were driven into a valley, antelopes, ferocious wild boars, dire wolves, great rock sheep, Steel-maned Beasts, and others, all large creatures, were now running desperately together.
However, at the other end of the valley was a cliff with a drop of hundreds of meters.
The Stone Scythe Demons blocked the exit of the valley, and on the cliffsides, other Stone Scythe Demons were throwing rocks.
"Woo..."
A loud call resounded from behind, commanding like an order.
Suddenly, dozens of Monster-Level Stone Scythe Demons lined up and began charging into the valley from the entrance, wielding their scythe-like claws to start slaughtering the beasts. The beasts in the rear pushed those in front, space shrank, and eventually, they were pressed off the cliff, falling to their deaths.
In less than two minutes, hundreds of beasts were slaughtered, most of them having fallen to their deaths.
After the killing of the beasts, not a single Stone Scythe Demon moved to feed.
They seemed to be waiting for something.
The valley was about three kilometers away from the Floating Mountains, and Ji Xinghuo had a clear view of the entire process.
Just as he was about to speak, he suddenly saw a huge figure leap into the sky, soaring more than a hundred meters above the ground before descending in a parabola and landing heavily in the valley.
Bang!
The ground trembled slightly; even from this distance, the sound could be heard.
"Stone Scythe Giant Demon!" Ji Xinghuo whispered, "It has appeared."
"To actually encounter a Stone Scythe Giant Demon, what luck!" Chi Zhonglin exclaimed excitedly.
However, Ren Mian’s face showed no hint of joy. She shook her head gravely and said slowly, "I’m afraid this isn’t good news. This Stone Scythe Giant Demon isn’t just at the Superior Level; it has evolved again. It’s now likely a ’Flood’ Level monster."
"What?" Chi Zhonglin turned pale with shock.
"Sister Ren is right," Ji Xinghuo nodded, "It has evolved."
He could see it very clearly.
The Stone Scythe Giant Demon in the valley was over five meters tall, massive yet agile, capable of leaping a hundred meters with ease. Its body was covered in a thick layer of rock armor, each of its four arms so big that it would take two people to wrap their arms around one. The stone claws on its hands were nearly a metre long, like a set of terrifying scythes.
Its tail, trailing behind, resembled a giant python, with a tip as potent as a drill bit.
When the Stone Scythe Giant Demon simply sat down in the valley, the thousands of Stone Scythe Demons around it prostrated, daring not to make a sound.
Even from this distance, Ji Xinghuo’s heart skipped a beat.
This was definitely not a Superior Level monster.
It was a Catastrophe-Level monster, a tier above by at least tenfold the strength of Superior monsters!
In the Star Realm, beasts that evolve once become monsters, and among regular monsters, Elites will emerge, usually as the leaders of their packs.
Elite monsters that evolve again become Superior Level monsters, awakening more Abilities.
And they can merge with or consume Alien Species.
After a Superior monster has grasped other Abilities, if it successfully evolves for the third time, there is a certain chance it will become a "Catastrophe-Level" monster!
Due to the differences in species and Abilities amongst the same Catastrophe-Level monsters, their strengths can vary greatly.
Thus, the various races have delineated more detailed classifications based on the degree of danger.
Catastrophe-Level monsters are compared to four types of natural disasters: floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and meteor impacts, which within the Asia-Pacific Community Country are simply known as "Flood, Bright, Earthquake, Meteor."
A Flood Level monster could cause damage roughly equivalent to a county or town-level flood disaster;
A Bright Level monster represents a further escalation in the threat;
An Earthquake Level monster could threaten a medium-sized city;
A Meteor Level monster has the capability to completely destroy a large city and the surrounding areas, killing everyone within range!
Even more terrifying than Catastrophe-Level monsters are Slaughter Star monsters.
In the era when the Star Gate first opened, a Slaughter Star monster broke into Earth, but luckily, the countries responded promptly. They killed it with dozens of intercontinental ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads.
Ji Xinghuo was too far away to accurately determine which level this Stone Scythe Giant Demon was at.
Just like Sister Ren said, it was most likely at the Flood Level!
A monster of this Level could at least be killed by a Legendary Mutant. If it were at the Bright Level, even Legendary Mutants would have a headache and wouldn’t dare to confront it lightly.
"Wu hou!"
The Stone Scythe Giant Demon let out two roars, and only then did the Stone Scythe Demons in the valley start to tear apart the carcasses of the beasts, using their stone claws to slice off chunks of flesh and feed them into their mouths, a scene that was extremely bloody.
It chose the two fattest and most ferocious wild boars for itself and began to enjoy its meal.
Ren Mian withdrew her gaze and said, "The plan remains unchanged, we will return to Olympia City tomorrow."
All three had no objections.
If it were merely a Superior monster, none of them would have feared it and would definitely have attempted the hunt.
But facing a Flood Level monster, they themselves had become the prey.
"Damn it!"
Chi Zhonglin cursed, "The person in Olympia who released the news is really deserving of death. They must have known that this Stone Scythe Giant Demon was at the Flood Level, but since they didn’t dare to act themselves, they deliberately released the news to let others come to their deaths. Now they’re probably hiding somewhere nearby, waiting to reap the benefits."
"I’d better not find out who it is, or I’ll make them pay!"
He cursed for a long time, utterly displeased.
If the Stone Scythe Giant Demon had been a Superior monster, killing it might have resulted in obtaining the "Earth Pulse," an Alien Species he had long anticipated.
This time, Ren Mian had also agreed that if they obtained Earth Pulse, it would be given to him first.
Now everything had fallen through!
More than two hours later, the group of Stone Scythe Demons finished gnawing the carcasses nearly clean and followed the Flood Level leader out of the valley, disappearing into the vast range of peaks.
Ji Xinghuo and his companions returned to the cave to rest, and the night passed without incident.
The next day, they packed their belongings, and the team left Peak Valley, embarking on the journey back to Olympia City.
