Chapter 703: Chapter 697: Sudden Change

Yunlan Domain.

Ye Xuan, having passed through the Transmission Array, arrived in the Yunlan Domain after a couple of transfers.

Returning to familiar grounds, Ye Xuan didn’t feel much nostalgia. After all, he hadn’t spent much time here, so it would be a stretch to say he was homesick.

The location of Xuantian Sect was in the Xuantian Mountain range. Ye Xuan didn’t rush back but instead settled temporarily in the nearest city to Xuantian Sect.

He found the largest tavern in town and sat down to quietly sip a few cups of liquor by himself.

In the tavern, there were some idle Martial Artists whose cultivation was at the Martial Sect level; the highest among them barely reached the Half-step Martial Venerate Realm.

Their discussions reached Ye Xuan’s ears as these Martial Artists gathered together.

"Have you heard? Recently, there’s been unrest at Xuantian Sect. Disciples are dying mysteriously, especially the young ones. It’s happening every now and then."

"What? That’s happening? My nephew is still an outer disciple at Xuantian Sect. Looks like I need to get him out quickly. He may avoid trouble on the first day, but he can’t dodge it forever. Staying in Xuantian Sect is asking for an early grave."

"Indeed, you should hurry. Xuantian Sect has definitely offended someone they shouldn’t have to suffer such underhanded tactics."

"How could this be? I heard that Xuantian Sect recently aligned with a Seventh Grade Sect from the Central Domain and became its new backer. How could someone dare target them like this?"

"What’s the use? Don’t tell anyone else what you know. I heard from my cousin at Daluo Heavenly Palace that it’s two Saints targeting Xuantian Sect. Both Daluo Heavenly Palace and Holy Demon Cave Heaven are to follow the lead of those two Great Saints, attack Xuantian Sect, and have Xuantian Sect slowly perish at their behest."

This conversation was whispered, but Ye Xuan’s hearing was no match for ordinary people. As a Martial Saint, listening to a few Martial Sects talking was as easy as pie for him.

One of the people speaking suddenly felt his body go out of control and started floating into the air.

"What’s going on?"

The man was stunned, unsure of what was happening, yet his body flew out involuntarily and landed in front of Ye Xuan.

"You were discussing matters about Xuantian Sect just now, and I have a few questions for you."

It was, of course, Ye Xuan who made the move. He had heard bits and pieces of the conversation and was beginning to doubt his own ears. In such times, Xuantian Sect was actually still caught in a predicament.

"You heard everything we just said? Who the hell are you? Why should I tell you anything?" The Martial Artist was initially panicked but seeing that Ye Xuan was just a young man, a trace of disdain appeared in his eyes.

"Who am I?"

Ye Xuan raised an eyebrow. He clearly saw the scorn in the other’s gaze. He knew very well that if he didn’t show some real power, this person in front of him wouldn’t say anything.

"I said I have questions for you, and you just need to answer them."

The man was about to retort when suddenly, a tremendous oppressive force bore down on him, forcing him to kneel on the ground. The pressure went straight to his soul and nearly made him lose control of his bladder.

"Please... ask."

Feeling the terror of this oppressive force, the Martial Artist’s face turned pale. He had never encountered such a frightening presence before. The strength of Ye Xuan was at least that of a High Rank Martial Venerate; he absolutely couldn’t afford to offend him.

Though it was hard to believe someone so young could possess such fearsome power, the moment wasn’t suitable to dwell on this disbelief; if Ye Xuan wanted him dead, it would probably be as easy as turning his hand.

"You just said two Great Saints were leading the charge against Xuantian Sect?"

"Yes, that’s what I heard."

"The two saints, could they be Sound Saint and Ling Yu Saint?" Ye Xuan’s eyes showed a trace of coldness. Other than those two, he couldn’t think of anyone else who would bear such animosity toward the Xuantian Sect, and why would two saints suddenly come to deal with Xuantian Sect—it made no sense.

"I don’t know, I’m just a nobody, how could I know the names of those saints?" The martial artist spoke with sweat beading on his forehead.

"Then I’m asking you one last question, those two, are they from the Emperor Xi Sect? Or do they have any affiliation with it?" Ye Xuan narrowed his eyes, inquiring.

"Emperor Xi Sect? I think I’ve heard that the two saints indeed hail from the Emperor Xi Sect." After thinking for a moment, the martial artist nodded.

"So that’s how it is."

A flash of cold light appeared in Ye Xuan’s eyes; it turned out to be an effortless search, as he hadn’t yet sought trouble with them, yet they had come knocking on his door.

"You’re no further concern."

Ye Xuan waved his hand to signal the man could leave.

"Yes, yes, yes."

As if granted a great pardon, the martial artist hurriedly fled, not daring to linger any longer.

"Bartender, the check."

As the sound fell, Ye Xuan had already vanished from the spot, leaving the patrons in the tavern stunned.

"How terrifying, was that instant movement?"

Among the group of martial artists who had been discussing earlier, one spoke with a shocked expression.

"I don’t know, but this young man is insanely strong. That pressure from earlier, it darn near scared me to death. I’ve never seen someone so terrifying in my life; I even wonder if this young man could be a Semi-Saint." The same artist previously questioned by Ye Xuan spoke.

"A Semi-Saint? Are you kidding me? Where would you find such a young Semi-Saint? The entire Yunlan Domain doesn’t have one, does it?"

"I don’t believe it either. You must have been scared silly."

"You’re the one scared silly."

The martial artist from before was still looking at the direction where Ye Xuan had left, with palpitations. He had underestimated Ye Xuan; rather than a Semi-Saint, it was possible the other was a Saint, but since he thought no one would believe it, he had held his tongue.

At this moment, a thousand miles away from the city, there lay the endless Xuantian Mountain Range, which was also where Xuantian Sect was located.

In the center of the mountain range stood a majestic peak, a picture of clear water and green mountain. Above the waist of the peak, it appeared as though it had been neatly sliced off by a massive blade, flat and smooth with a broad surface.

Atop the peak, a sprawling collection of buildings rose and fell in height. As a Sixth Grade Sect, it had an imposing air, yet the atmosphere of the place was tinged with a sense of decline. At the foot of the mountain stood a giant stele inscribed with three large characters—Xuantian Sect.

The sect entrance looked particularly desolate; the vast gates had not a single disciple on guard, empty and silent.

"It seems something indeed has happened."

Ye Xuan’s expression darkened, having not expected that, even under the protection of the Heavenly Martial Holy Land, such an incident could occur. Fortunately, he had returned in time, otherwise, even if Xuantian Sect didn’t perish immediately, it would slowly head toward its downfall.

With a flash, Ye Xuan effortlessly passed through the Sect Protection Array and swept through the gates.

Across the various buildings, Ye Xuan’s gaze fell upon a vast square where, at last, he could see scattered disciples of the Xuantian Sect. These disciples were listless, and some were even carrying bundles, seemingly preparing to descend the mountain and leave.

The entire sect was filled with the atmosphere of a scattering of apes upon the falling of a tree.
