Surgery Godfather-Chapter 547 - 497: Throwing the Baby Out with the Bathwater
Chapter 547: Chapter 497: Throwing the Baby Out with the Bathwater
The night in Tokyo was dazzling, with lights as abundant as stars.
In the office, a Go board was laid out before Fujiwara Wakan, who was play against himself with his left hand and right hand, while Sha Gui stood by his side.
Telephone calls streamed into the office one by one, and all were handled by Sha Gui, leaving Fujiwara Wakan free to play the game.
"The elder statesman of the opposition, Mr. Seiji, has unfortunately passed away after his pacemaker unexpectedly failed," reported Sha Gui.
"Mr. Shengjun is embroiled in a scandal involving an actress and cannot extricate himself."
"Mr. Yoshi is under the control of the Metropolitan Police Department due to his involvement in money laundering."
"It has been confirmed that Mr. Takahiro is not of Fujiwara bloodline."
"Mr. Kyusaku wishes to see you; this can be viewed as a surrender."
Sha Gui reported in an orderly manner, and Fujiwara Wakan listened while moving the Go pieces. He did not comment.
Fujiwara Wakan placed down the last Go piece and examined the board. The outcome of the game was apparent, but a dull pain nagged at his heart.
He slowly rose and walked towards the floor-to-ceiling window.
"Look at this beautiful night. It’s a pity that behind this beauty lies dirty transactions and survival of the fittest. And we have to keep going tirelessly."
Sha Gui also looked out the window. "Survival of the fittest, that’s the law of the world. Otherwise, you’d be the one to be defeated."
Fujiwara Wakan fell into a long silence before asking:
"How is my uncle doing?"
"His heart has stopped. There’s no new information yet," answered Sha Gui, sounding distraught.
"We have no choice but to push the situation to a deadlock, to lure out the snake, and then strike with full legitimacy, capturing them all in one fell swoop," added Sha Gui.
"Do you know, in my heart, he is my father," Fujiwara Wakan could not hide his sorrow.
Sha Gui immediately bowed, "The situation is delicate, danger is everywhere. Please, sir, do not blame yourself."
"You’ve done well during this time, I appreciate it. Have the Eastern Europeans continue their surveillance on each and every one of them," Fujiwara Wakan instructed.
Sha Gui immediately noted down, "Understood, they are at the intelligence center in Romania, providing us with 24/7 surveillance. Cameras, computers, phones, cars, they’ve got them all covered."
Suddenly, the telephone on the desk rung again.
Sha Gui picked up the phone. After listening, he turned to Fujiwara Wakan, "The President—with the surgery—was successful!"
"You mean he’s alive?"
Fujiwara Wakan hesitated for a moment, gripping Sha Gui’s collar.
"Yes! He’s still alive. The game is set, but the president is still alive," affirmed Sha Gui, repeatedly nodding.
"Get to the hospital! Quick!"
Fujiwara Wakan let go of Sha Gui.

Professor Liang felt a surge of satisfaction with the phrase ’the new generation surpasses the old’. He had never felt such relief before.
Even the backache from sitting too long disappeared, and he stretched out comfortably.
The staff that Ning Qi had sent over began discussing with Su Nanchen about when to charter the plane and commenced confirming the passenger list.
Whether they were old professors or young doctors, everyone started packing up and preparing to return home.
Professor Qin phoned China to arrange a surgery, "How was the sugar control? Has the anticoagulant drug been stopped for seven days? Okay, prepare for surgery tomorrow. I’ll be fine to rest on the plane. We can’t delay any longer, or it will affect the surgical results."
Professor Su beckoned Su Nanchen over and advised him to arrange for Yang Ping and Su Yixuan to sit as close to him as possible on the plane. Professor Su wanted to have a good chat with them.
Younger doctors like Song Yun all discussed going to find Yang Ping.
Old Cheng and Huang Jiacai were in the middle of a heated Go battle with the professors of Tokyo University. The professor with curly hair had completely forgotten about the pain on his face and was sucking on an ice pop.
Thanks to that powerful slap, Old Cheng had established a deep bond of cross-border friendship with the curly-haired professor, who even enthusiastically invited his two Chinese friends to a tour of Tokyo’s Kabukicho.
At this moment, a slightly plump professor, carrying his laptop, made his way through the bustling conference hall and quietly spoke with Professor Kobayashi Takeshi from Shuntendo.
"We have a unique case. Professor Ito has proposed to Professor Amano that we invite Dr. Yang Ping for consultation. Professor Ito has sent me to ask you."
Kobayashi Takeshi had already been informed about the patient they requested for a consultation.
This slightly overweight professor was Dr. Joonryong from the Cardiac Surgery Department of Shuntendo Hospital.
They had encountered a strange and rare case: a large complex tumor that filled the entire chest cavity. The tumour was adherently wrapped around all the organs and had severely invaded the left atrium and the left ventricle. Numerous blind spots made it almost impossible to completely remove the tumor by conventional intracardiac direct-vision surgery,
planation.
After several days of research by Dr. Joonryong and his colleagues, they could not develop a reasonable treatment plan.
They created a three-dimensional model of the tumor and research various surgical approaches. Even after synthesizing dozens of possibilities, they could not determine a method to completely remove the tumor.
Professor Ito suggested to Professor Amano: There is a Chinese doctor at the University of Tokyo who might have unique insights into complex cardiac cases.
Thus, Professor Amano immediately instructed Dr. Joonryong to visit the University of Tokyo in hopes that Dr. Yang Ping could provide some insights before leaving Japan.
Dr. Joonryong brought his laptop and rushed to the University of Tokyo to find Kobayashi Takeshi.
Although Kobayashi Takeshi knew Dr. Yang Ping, they were not close. So, to avoid any awkwardness, he decided to take Dr. Joonryong to Professor Takahashi to help arrange the meeting.
---
After half an hour of observation, Fujiwara Tani was confirmed to be stable and was transferred to the specialized care ward.
The group surrounded Yang Ping as he came out of the dressing room. Kobayashi was waiting by the door with Dr. Joonryong.
"Dr. Yang!"
Kobayashi quickly approached, with Dr. Joonryong following behind.
Professor Takahashi stepped in, "Gentleman, Dr. Yang needs to rest. If you have anything to discu, please do it with me later."
Takahashi could tell from the laptop in Osaki’s hands that they probably came to discuss a case with Yang Ping.
Now is not the time for a case discussion. Everyone has limited energy, and it’s Takahashi’s responsibility to protect Yang Ping’s resting time.
"Professor Takahashi, we have a rare case, we need---" Kobayashi Takeshi tried to chase after him.
"Everyone, please hold on. Doctor Yang needs to rest, he is leaving for his homeland early tomorrow morning, so I beg of you." Takahashi said, as he escorted Yang Ping out of the operating room.
He’s leaving tomorrow morning, what should be done then?
Professor Xiaolin grabbed hold of Takahashi’s hand, "Professor Takahashi, please do me a favor out of our private friendship, could you possibly arrange just ten minutes for us?"
Takahashi shook his head: "I’m sorry ― very sorry!"
A prominent professor from Shunten Tang, wanting to meet a young doctor, who refuses to see him, that’s simply infuriating.
Fury boiled inside Osaki Toshitaka, but he couldn’t vent it out.
He wanted to turn around and leave, but he had to accomplish what Professor Amano instructed him.
"Professor Takahashi---"
Kobayashi Takeshi did not let go of him.
Finally, Takahashi could not resist, "Fine, come back to the hotel with us. I’ll arrange for a meeting there, but only for ten minutes."
Operating in the evening was already exhausting, let alone doing such high-risk and difficult surgery, which drained a lot of energy. Right now, all Yang Ping wanted to do was go back and rest as soon as possible.
Kobayashi and Osaki followed him back to the hotel and waited in the room arranged by Takahashi.
Professor Osaki occasionally went out to check the conditions. Not far away in the hallway, Yang Ping was chatting and laughing with Chinese doctors.
This made Professor Osaki even angrier. So he has time to chat but no time to discuss a case with himself. Did he think that Osaki, the professor from Shunten Tang, was unworthy?
After a nervous wait finally, Takahashi came, telling them that they can meet Dr. Yang but only for ten minutes.
Lead by Takahashi, Osaki Toshitaka finally met Yang Ping. Despite being furious, he opened his laptop and immediately pulled up an image - a largely complex chest tumor.
Yang Ping was quite interested in this case and examined each image one by one.
Many young doctors gathered around, although they were orthopedic doctors, they had been through the thoracic surgery department during rotations and understood the basics.
Takahashi served as a translator on the side, and Tang Shun was always there to help with difficult sentences or phrases.
"Dr. Yang, do you have any good suggestions?"
Osaki Toshitaka hadn’t cooled down yet.
"If you want to remove the tumor completely, there’s a good method." Yang Ping said, nonchalantly.
A glint of hope flickered in Osaki Toshitaka’s eyes, and his anger receded by half. "Please, tell us!"
"Cut off the heart, lungs, large blood vessels, and even the mediastinum along with the entire tumor as a whole from the chest cavity, and take them out of the patient’s body. Afterward, remove the tumor outside the body, repair the left atrium and left ventricle, and both sides of the lungs, then transplant back the heart and lungs." Yang Ping explained.
Osaki Toshitaka could hardly believe his ears: "You mean -- to cut off the heart, lungs, and tumor together? Take them out, let them leave the body? After the tumor is removed, perform autologous heart and lung transplants?"
"Yes, that’s right!" Yang Ping was very sure.
"What a crazy idea? Throwing out the baby with the bathwater?" Osaki Toshitaka couldn’t accept this kind of plan.
Yang Ping corrected his understanding: "That’s correct. You throw away the baby along with the bathwater, but then you pick the baby back up."
Crazy man, crazy idea!
After a moment of dizziness, Osaki Toshitaka seriously considered the plan and realized that it indeed made sense after thinking it through.
If it’s possible to take the heart, large blood vessels, and the lungs along with the tumor out.
The chief surgeon wouldn’t be troubled by adhesion anymore, nor vexed by operating angles, without any blind spots, the organs outside the body along with the tumor could be turned freely by 360 degrees on the sterile table, the doctor could separate the tumor from any angle.
How extraordinary!
But, I’m afraid I don’t have the courage! Osaki Toshitaka’s anger had entirely evaporated.
He had performed many heart transplants, but for the sake of tumor removal to cut off all the hearts and lungs, take them out and then perform an autologous heart-lung combined transplant...
"The operation is a bit big! But I can’t think of a better way right now." Yang Ping looked a bit troubled.
"Yes, a bit big!"
Osaki Toshitaka was in a daze, struggling to imagine this operation, how to cut off all the organs in the chest cavity, including the heart, large blood vessels, and lungs, take them out, and spread them out on the sterile table. It reminded him of when he was studying anatomy at Tokyo University.
Takahashi’s cell phone went off, notifying that ten minutes had passed. He immediately told Xiaolin and Osaki.
"Professors, time’s up."
"Thi--this---this."
Osaki Toshitaka was in an awkward position, the discussion had not even started yet, and so many questions about this method had not been raised yet.
Takahashi closed Osaki Toshitaka’s laptop: "We can keep in contact for the details, you can email Dr. Yang."
Continuing to bother him would be deemed disrespectful.
Reluctantly, Osaki Toshitaka gathered his laptop: "Dr. Yang, could you leave your email address? A social media account would also be fine."
"You can just keep in contact with Takahashi, he can reach me."
Yang Ping’s idea was simple, since they were Japanese, he might as well let Takahashi handle it.
"Thi--this--this."
Osaki Toshitaka stammered, seemingly reluctant to leave.
Kobayashi Takeshi pulled him up and bid farewell to Yang Ping, then pointed to the door, "Tha--tha--tha."
"Taking out all the organs in the chest cavity?"
Osaki Toshitaka was still immersed in his thoughts, muttering to himself as he walked.
