Eglehey Cricket Training Attendance Day 8. Hastings now hits the ball with a bat.

⌎It’s faster than I expected.

⌎Hastings, could they be a genius?

⌎No way, they were so terrible, and now they’re hitting the ball with a bat on Day 8? They must be a genius.

⌎Based on their reaction, I’m curious just how bad they were on Day 1.

⌎They were a mess. They were supposed to hit the ball, but they threw the bat instead.

⌎If that’s the worst of it, we’re lucky, right? The Student Council President held their posture, but they were trembling like a newborn deer, and then they fell into the fountain by themselves.

⌎These guys aren’t just filling attendance for the cricket training. Hastings is hilarious.

⌎Honestly, isn’t it the Student Council President who’s the real genius for teaching them?

⌎Didn’t you know? The Student Council President stopped being human a long time ago. There’s no level we can even mention. They’re totally in a different league.

⌎I wish I could learn cricket from the Student Council President.

⌎You’ll have to wait until your next life.

Whoosh- Cheer up, Hastings-!

From somewhere, the sound of whistling and cheering reached my ears.

I tried to ignore the loud cheer and got back into position.

I was receiving cricket training from Senior Noah after school in the courtyard.

[Instead, I’m strict, so be prepared. Bring a bunch of handkerchiefs.]

I should have realized what that meant when he said it.

Training with Noah was truly hell. It was so hard I nearly cried, with tears and snot pouring out.

Correcting my posture and swinging the bat a thousand times was just the basics, and on top of that, there was physical training.

At first, a few people passed by and watched, but now the number of students watching the training had doubled.

Everyone knew I was terrible at cricket, and I felt a bit embarrassed.

It was hard to concentrate with all the students watching me, but Noah, seeing me struggle, casually gave me advice.

“Melody. Maybe greet your fans.”

I wasn’t sure if I should even consider that advice.

As I was thinking that, I almost tripped over a rock, but Noah quickly lifted me up.

“If you fall and start bleeding, they’ll be thrilled over there.”

“Why would they be thrilled?”

I looked toward the bleachers where the students were gathered, and as soon as they noticed my gaze, they whistled.

Noah looked over and spoke.

“They’re betting on your nosebleed.”

“How much are they betting?”

He lowered his head toward me, and when he whispered the amount, I widened my eyes in shock.

“A nosebleed is more expensive than my annual salary. If you don’t bleed today, they’ll be disappointed.”

“Let them be disappointed. It’s better than you bleeding.”

Noah answered coldly and then motioned for me to continue.

“Looks like you’ve had enough of a break, right? Get back in position.”

How did he know I was just trying to take a break by chatting?

With tears welling up, I reluctantly got back into position.

It was so tough, I just wanted to run away, but I couldn’t retreat.

I had to grit my teeth and bear it.

Thud.

While running with the sandbags for physical training, I tripped and fell flat on the ground, and ended up with a nosebleed.

I rummaged through my gym clothes pockets and realized I had forgotten my handkerchief.

“Ah, I left it in my bag.”

Just then, a large shadow loomed over me.

I lifted my head, still dripping with blood from my nose, and saw Noah standing there.

“I told you not to get hurt. Over there, only people who enjoy seeing you hurt are watching.”

Noah pointed at the bleachers.

As soon as I had a nosebleed, the atmosphere shifted, and bets were being made here and there.

It wasn’t that they enjoyed seeing me get hurt, but rather, they liked «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» seeing the little rewards they’d get if I bled.

Isn’t that the same thing?

But still, since transferring to Saint Gloria Private School, I hadn’t encountered any students who were overtly hostile or malicious toward me.

Even looking at the student bulletin board, there were more people cheering for me or liking me.

Noah knelt down in front of me, grabbed my chin with his large hand, and examined my face carefully.

He sighed, then took out a handkerchief and gently wiped my nose, before lifting me up in his arms.

“Let’s call it a day for now.”

Even though he was tough on me during training, if I started bleeding, he immediately stopped the session.

What was more, he was great at pinpointing what I needed to focus on and had an excellent ability to design efficient training methods based on my condition.

Thanks to that, by Day 9 of training, I had gotten to the point where I could hit the ball with the bat reasonably well.

The problem was that the second-year cricket competition was just ten days away.

Even though Noah would stop the training if I bled, surprisingly, my progress wasn’t fast enough.

“Senior, I’m really fine.”

“You’re not fine. Can you really continue cricket like this, being so weak? Maybe it’s better to give up now...”

“No! I’m fine, really!”

I shouted loudly, even as I was in Noah’s arms.

It was ironic that people treated me like I had a weak constitution because I kept getting nosebleeds.

I wasn’t originally this weak...!

The problem was that, after coming back from the past, my body had become unnaturally weak.

Noah carried me toward the girls’ dormitory with a dissatisfied look on his face.

“I heard rumors about Class F students bullying you, is that why you’re pushing yourself so hard?”

“I’m not being bullied.”

It’s just that everyone treats me like I’m invisible, so I feel awkward.

“It’s true that when you can’t do well in group sports, you feel awkward.”

Honestly, I couldn’t deny that I felt awkward because I wasn’t good at cricket, even if I didn’t think I was treated like I was invisible.

It might even cause our team to score low, so how could I not feel awkward?

Noah, who seemed to be quietly thinking about my words, spoke in a calm voice.

“If it’s hard, just be honest with me. We’re life-or-death partners now.”

“Life-or-death partners?”

“Investigating ghost stories isn’t an easy task. You probably know that by now.”

Ah, I understood what he meant.

Now I knew how dangerous the ghost stories and evil spirits were. I understood that it was real.

“As much as you help me, I’ll do my best to help you. So if you need help, just ask.”

His words made me feel oddly grateful, and instead of rejecting them, I just nodded quietly.

I think I now understood a bit of why the students at Saint Gloria Private School revered the Student Council President so much and were so enthusiastic about him.

Anyway, Noah walked me to the front of the girls’ dormitory building.

According to the rules, unless there were special circumstances, even the Student Council President couldn’t enter the girls’ dormitory building.

As I entered my dorm room, holding the handkerchief Noah gave me to block my nose, Erika greeted me.

“Melody! You had another nosebleed today!”

I was greeted with Erika’s concern, and I began unpacking my bag and getting ready for bed.

Today had been really exhausting.

Though Raven still continued to avoid me.
