Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 30: Walking Poison Gas Bomb
Yuan Lang turned to the two beastmen beside him. "How are they?"
The middle-aged beastman frowned and shook his head. "Just like you, we dug them out of a pile of Fierce Beast corpses. They were still breathing..."
He sighed, as if trying to suppress his grief. "Their injuries aren’t as severe as yours, but they still haven’t woken up."
Yuan Lang tried to move his arms but couldn’t summon any strength. His dark, somber eyes turned to the middle-aged beastman. "Give the herb to them."
The middle-aged beastman’s lips moved, but he only sighed. He stood up and pushed the two halves of the herb into their mouths.
"May the Beast God protect them."
The forest gradually fell silent. Aside from a few beastmen on patrol, the rest had all shifted into their beast forms, huddling together as they slept.
Only Yuan Lang remained awake. He gazed up through the dense canopy at the small patch of visible sky. ’I wonder how Teng Qian and Teng Kun are doing?’
Thinking of his two Deputy Generals who had risked their lives to stay by his side, Yuan Lang’s eyes grew dim, the lines of his dirt-streaked face hardening into a cold, grim expression...
CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP! The sound of birdsong announced the start of a new day. When Wu Yue opened her eyes again, the dim light of dawn was filtering into the cave.
Suddenly, a vile stench filled her nostrils. Her face paled, and she couldn’t stop herself from gagging.
’What the hell, System?! Didn’t we agree you’d keep watch tonight? You slacked off!’ Wu Yue shot up, pinching her nose as she roared internally.
The System was baffled for a moment, then flew into a rage. "I worked tirelessly on watch all night, and you dare to slander me?"
Wu Yue stomped her foot in anger. "If you weren’t slacking, then how did something get into my cave to take a dump?! The smell is killing me!"
System: "..."
After a bizarre silence, the System suddenly burst into a fit of high-pitched, screechy laughter. As it laughed, it mocked Wu Yue without mercy: "You idiot Host! The source of the stench is *you*! Just lift your arm and take a whiff. You’re a walking chemical weapon right now."
Wu Yue’s body went rigid. After a long moment, she slowly, hesitantly raised one arm. Before she could even bring it close to her nose, the vile stench wafted lazily up to greet her.
"BLECHH~" ’Holy hell, what is that ungodly smell?’
Unable to stand her own stench a moment longer, Wu Yue grabbed a handful of dry grass and bolted for the river, leaving an eye-watering trail of odor in her wake.
Her fumes even knocked out a few Half beastman Warriors with particularly sensitive noses along the way.
She sprinted all the way to the riverbank without stopping, only to stand there hesitantly. She craned her neck and lifted a leg, but couldn’t bring herself to get back in the water.
Seeing its Host’s cowardly display, the System curled its proverbial lip in disgust. "Host, for the sake of harmony in the Snow Tiger Tribe, please do hurry up and get yourself squeaky clean."
Wu Yue shivered. "No shit, Sherlock! You think I don’t want to? I’m too scared! Have you already forgotten about that Grass Carp with shark teeth? That thing was lethal!"
The System was speechless. "Not bathing is deadly, too."
Deadly to the beastmen and Half beastmen, that is.
"Don’t worry, Host," the System cajoled. "With that potent toxic cloud you’re wearing, no fish would dare come near you. Don’t believe me? Just try it."
Wu Yue pursed her lips. She knew, logically, that as long as she wasn’t injured or bleeding, the Grass Carp wouldn’t attack her unprovoked.
But fear doesn’t listen to reason.
Mustering up her courage, she dipped a big toe into the river. A school of Grass Carp that had been swimming leisurely just moments before instantly scattered in every direction. One particularly chubby fish was a little too slow and actually flipped belly-up on the spot.
Wu Yue stared, embarrassed. ’Did it just faint, or did it actually die?’
