Medeia didn’t even have time to celebrate her incredible rewards before she noticed the floor beginning to crack from the center of the room, creeping across the floor like veins, splitting it apart little by little.
Suddenly, the door burst open and Tian shouted, "Get out of there!"
Without thinking twice, Medeia sprinted toward the door and just as she did, the floor began to collapse beneath her. She spread her wings and launched herself forward, gliding swiftly through the doorway.
BOOM!
In a matter of seconds, the entire floor gave way, crashing down and taking with it the debris and the lifeless bodies of the demons.
Medeia shielded both herself and Tian with her wings, protecting them from the dust and rubble flying through the air.
When the rumbling finally stopped and silence returned, she slowly lowered her wings and cautiously stepped closer to the now-ruined room. "What the hell just happened?"
A massive hole had formed in the middle of the room, no, actually, the entire floor was gone. She peered down, trying to gauge how deep it went, but it seemed endless, like a pit with no bottom.
"Did you know this would happen?" she asked Tian without turning around.
He didn’t answer, but his silence was enough for Medeia to know that he had seen this before, it had to be part of his future vision.
[Danger detected! Danger detected!]
Medeia frowned. The system was warning her, but she couldn’t see anything dangerous.
Just as she was about to approach the hole again, Tian grabbed her hand. "No. Don’t go near it."
She opened her mouth to ask why, but froze when she heard someone calling her name from a distance. "Medeia! Medeia, what are you doing out here?!"
She turned her head and saw Lucian running toward her, his face full of worry. Gideon and Eldon followed right behind him, both looking tense.
Medeia raised an eyebrow. "How did you even find—"
She didn’t finish her question because Lucian suddenly yelled at her, "Why didn’t you tell me you were going into a place like this?!"
She blinked, startled. It was rare to hear him raise his voice like that.
Usually, he just sighed or scolded her quietly whenever she did something reckless, but this time, he looked genuinely upset.
After a moment, she finally found her voice. "I’m ... sorry. Tian and I just wanted to explore a little. We didn’t think it’d get this bad. I should’ve told you, but—"
She went silent when Lucian suddenly pulled her into his arms. The hug was so tight she could barely breathe.
One of his hands cradled the back of her head, the other wrapped around her back, holding her like he was afraid to let go.
"I’m sorry for yelling," he whispered. His eyes looked past her, toward the hole. "I thought something bad had happened to you."
"I’m okay," Medeia whispered back.
She didn’t say anything else, nor did she try to pull away from the embrace. Instead, She just leaned into him, returning the hug quietly.
She let out a sigh of relief like someone finally coming home after a long, exhausting journey.
"Are you hurt?" Lucian asked after a while. He pulled back slightly, his eyes focusing on the blood on her face. "Who did this to you?"
Medeia wiped the blood away with the back of her hand. "It’s not mine. I’m really okay."
Lucian gently held her face and used a handkerchief to wipe the blood from her cheek. "What happened here?" he asked quietly. "Why didn’t you call me before doing something this dangerous?"
Even though he didn’t ask directly, his eyes kept shifting toward the wings on her back. He knew that Medeia must’ve done something dangerous to level up.
"I told you ... it all happened so fast," Medeia murmured.
She held onto his arm for balance and slowly retracted her wings, wanting to save her strength for whatever might come next.
She winced slightly. It didn’t hurt too much, but it still felt uncomfortable.
"Are you in pain?" Lucian pulled her into another hug, gently stroking her hair as if he could ease her pain with just his touch.
"No, it doesn’t hurt anymore." Medeia looked up and met his worried gaze. "Really, Lucian. I’m fine."
"You ... you have a transformation ability now?" Eldon asked suddenly, making Medeia turned her head toward him. "Since when?"
He had known ’Medeia’ since she was a little and had run countless tests on her body.
Therefore, he was familiar with her mutant ability, but he didn’t recall any data suggesting she had transformation powers.
Medeia let out a small, awkward laugh. "This ability awakened just recently ... after I escaped from the military base."
She wasn’t sure if her explanation made sense. As far as she knew, it was rare for someone to awaken a second ability years after manifesting their first.
Thankfully, she didn’t need to come up with another excuse because their attention quickly shifted to Gideon.
"What is that?!"
He stood frozen in the doorway, eyes wide as he stared at the strange, massive hole that now sat in the middle of the room, like a gateway to hell.
"Has this thing always been here?!" Gideon asked, stepping forward.
Tian reached out and grabbed Gideon’s arm before he could go any closer. "Let’s talk upstairs. This place isn’t safe right now."
Just one look at that pit was enough to send a chill down everyone’s spine. The room felt unstable now, as if the whole building could collapse any second.
"Maybe ... it’s better if we just leave this building," Eldon suggested. "I’ll ask Sora to prepare warm clothes so we can relocate."
"We can’t move to another place," Tian said firmly. "The moment we stepped into this building, we triggered something, a hidden barrier, set by whatever’s hiding underneath us."
