Surviving The Fourth Calamity-Chapter 244 - 57: The Abyss is far behind, the Fox and the Old Dog
Hill flew to the fountain’s edge, the night deepening, and many magical beasts had come to drink from the Water of Purification.
The gathering was particularly complete today; Hill smiled as he looked around at the various high-level magical beasts squatting in the front, and the lower rank creatures lurking in the back.
"The high-level magical beasts that didn’t return today," Hill spoke slowly, hoping each word was clearly understood "I’ve agreed to their signing equal contracts with the Undead Tribe. If you also wish to live outside the territory and are worried about easy death, you can choose to find an Undead member."
I have permitted them to come to the valley for two hours daily after seven days to look for high-level magical beasts interested in making a contract. They have a space where magical beasts can live—safety can be offered in times of mortal danger, but it is no guarantee of absolute safety."
These seven days, consider it well. If you really want to sign this contract, come out and observe when the Undead Tribe arrives!"
"Does the king know?" a leopard asked in a muffled tone. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"He knows; he went with me!" Hill laughed, "He said that leopards and cats might not plan to go out, which is fine! I know some magical beasts might be restless. If they go out like this, they will truly face death."
"Only high-level?" a fox inquired.
"Of course. Only high-levels can more easily survive. The Undead Tribe is almost fighting every day." Hill said without hesitation.
"Then we will consider it thoroughly," the fox said, "I didn’t expect Mr. Hill to have noticed already, indeed some little ones are getting restless. They have never seen the outside world nor suffered beatings or escaped from death; they always believe they can become a great demigod like the Wolf God. Hey~ The Wolf God has been dead for tens of thousands of years!"
Hill looked at this cunning fox and slowly smiled: "It’s alright. Whether or not they want to leave, it’s up to them. They’re not people of my territory, if some fool dares lay a hand on someone, you may resist. List will be watching."
Hill knew that with the intelligence of these high-level magical beasts, they would not rashly offend the Undead Tribe, and with List’s watchful eyes, they wouldn’t take that risk again.
"What about those three pigs?" the fox asked in shock, "Do they have someone interested as well? The Undead Tribe is so..." Hill watched him struggle to swallow back words like ’not picky about food,’ truly feeling the Duchess’s deterrence to these magical beasts.
"The Undead Tribe is very wealthy," Hill said with a laugh. "They matched with people from the same family. All future pigs will have their keepers."
Hill felt the restlessness among the high-level magical beasts, it seemed being able to sustain that whole family made them respect the strength of the Undead Tribe enough.
"I will regulate that cassava field," Hill thought aloud, "Does anyone else want to eat?"
"Maybe after some time!" a tall buffalo stood up, "It might not taste good, but we all would like to try it for a couple of days."
Hill couldn’t help but laugh; what sort of profound impact had the Duchess actually left on them?
He then refreshed the fountain with Water System Divine Art, and, without seeming to, observed the Spiral Pearls with his spiritual power; though there was still no significant activity, the pearl’s body was shimmering, already showing signs of coming to life.
Hill nodded in satisfaction, returned to his study, and prepared to rest well.
He casually instructed Li Si to notify Old Cat, to inform the Undead Tribe with a reputation friendly or above, to come to the valley after seven days and find their magical beasts.
Hill felt that after the first week, individual players would likely decrease in number, and those from big factions would be more cautious, generally avoiding trouble.
Sometimes he found it strange; he clearly wanted to keep a distance from the Undead Tribe, but never managed to do so.
But Hill would rather deal with the troubles brought by players than slow his pace of progress, much like how Adrian had been letting their Tower Spirit Mont constantly keep in touch with List recently; Hill understood this very well.
Elves and Dwarves were things of the past, now the World Will paid more attention to humans.
Hence, the appearance of the Undead Tribe, overall, was a good thing for humanity.
But correspondingly, the individuals within humanity, when occasionally caught in a trap, could only accept their bad luck.
Hill looked at that certain Mage, who was hiding in a secluded place researching some unconventional spells, and because of careless actions, was caught by the Undead Tribe and had his reputation ruined; Hill could only respond with a helpless wry smile.
Many mages were skeptical that such an Archmage’s hideout could be so easily breached.
A 200-year-old Archmage, who had hidden for so many years without being detected was indeed in Cortez, with only one underwater tunnel as an entrance and exit.
Yet the Undead Tribe, somewhat whimsically, dove into a desolate, lifeless stretch of river, suddenly deciding to race to see whose diving speed was the fastest.
And just like that, they naturally discovered the entrance, and it turned into a call-for-friends diving adventure.
That Archmage, having hid so securely, of course had some issues. As one can imagine, an individual from an Evil Faction facing a group of Undead higher in level, would find out what kind of fate awaits.
Similar incidents amassed in volume; Li Si summarized them into a thick stack of papers, all to comfort Hill, urging him not to dwell too much on his own misfortune.
Hill knew that even Fran, now, did not know how to handle the Undead Tribe and could only try to stand unanimously with William to avoid trouble.
