Chapter 1525: Chapter 1525: The Three Religions and Nine Schools of Thought

He was wrapped in a brand-new military coat, sitting with one leg crossed in front of a pile of flower lanterns, a cigarette dangling from his lips, rapidly counting money with both hands.

By the time Guan Qing spotted him, Wang Jiu, the little overlord, had just noticed Guan Qing himself.

He took a deep drag of his cigarette, flicked the butt casually onto the ground, and then made his way through the crowd with a confident stride.

"Hey! Isn’t this Boss Guan? What brings you to Lantern Street today?"

"What, you can stroll around but I can’t?" Guan Qing’s mouth curved into a smile as she spoke.

"Of course, of course you can! Feel free to look around! From the start of the street to its end, if you fancy any of these flower lanterns, just take them. As long as you mention my name, ’little overlord,’ nobody dares to stop you."

"Alright then." Guan Qing smiled. "I was wondering why I haven’t seen Boss Wang lately. You’re back to your old tricks, eh? How’s the income this month?"

"Don’t even mention it. I spent some time behind bars again. Gotta make some money now that I’m out, right? You, as the goddess of wealth, haven’t sought me out for a while. I’ve been hoping you would bring me some fortune." Wang Jiu chuckled.

"Are you not hoping for my wellbeing?" Guan Qing glanced at him and smiled. "Don’t worry. I might just bring you some fortuitous leak soon. That is, if you do your job well."

"Rest assured," Wang Jiu replied.

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Wang Jiu’s gaze finally landed on the man standing next to Guan Qing, dressed in a military uniform and carrying the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel on his shoulders, clearly a man of stature.

"Hey! Who might this distinguished person be?" Wang Jiu, eager to make connections, took the initiative to strike up a conversation.

Hen Zhiyuan didn’t like mingling with such diverse characters. He glanced at Wang Jiu indifferently, keeping his lips tightly sealed without saying a word.

He was a military man! A military man has his pride!

How could he possibly converse with such scum of society?

Wang Jiu, realizing that Hen Zhiyuan was ignoring him, understood that Hen Zhiyuan didn’t think much of him. Having been around for a while, Wang Jiu had made connections in both the underworld and the upper circles.

He could tell at a glance what someone thought of him.

"He’s my friend," Guan Qing said with a smile, glancing at Hen Zhiyuan, "and he’s different from us. Boss Wang, we are businesspeople. Businesspeople should interact with businesspeople, don’t you think?"

"That’s right, that’s right." Wang Jiu understood in his heart that not every big Buddha would look out for him.

While the three were talking, a fierce argument broke out nearby.

Guan Qing looked in the direction of the noise and saw a man in a suit and leather shoes buying a flower lantern, with two fashionably dressed ladies standing by his side.

The two ladies were having a heated dispute with the lantern seller over one of the lanterns.

"Isn’t that Boss Hou?" Guan Qing murmured to herself.

"Do you know him?" Wang Jiu asked.

"Yeah, we have business dealings with each other. He’s a good business partner of mine," Guan Qing replied.

"Alright then. You wait here. I’ll go sort things out for Boss Hou," said Wang Jiu as he dove into the crowd.

A few minutes later, the commotion subsided, and the two chic ladies by Hou’s side both got the lanterns they wanted.

Boss Hou, flanked by the two ladies, approached Guan Qing and gave her a bow of thanks: "Thank you, Boss Guan. If it weren’t for your righteous help, my two treasures might have turned the whole place upside down today."
