Sweet Revenge With My Billionaire Vampire-Chapter 20: Lovebirds
A week had passed, and life at the mansion had mostly been normal so far. Of course, Enzo’s presence continued to stir up gossip between the maids and the family members. He was the center of everyone’s conversations.
Despite the occasional squabble between him and Adeline, the whispers among the staff painted their relationship in a surprisingly sweet light, always finding them ’cute.’
She stood in the garden, leaning against a stone pillar. Her focus was fully on the message she had drafted to her best friend, Evelyn. The message read, ’Meet me at our usual spot. I need to explain everything.’ Her thumb hovered over the send button, her teeth lightly biting the tip of her finger as she hesitated.
Evelyn had been her best friend since childhood, but Adeline wasn’t too sure about her ability to keep a secret. Evelyn had a knack for being loose-lipped, and Adeline worried that telling her everything now might ruin her and Enzo’s plan if it ever got out of her mouth.
She sighed, running a hand through her hair in frustration before erasing the message entirely. Pushing herself off the pillar, she smoothed her dress and muttered, "This is so annoying," before heading towards the exit of the garden. The vines that clung to the wooden door tickled her hand as she pushed it open, stepping into the stone pathway that led back to the mansion.
Two maids were huddled together just ahead, whispering to each other. They immediately quieted their whispers when they saw her. They giggled softly and scurried away, sparing a few glances over their shoulders.
Adeline raised a brow as she watched them leave before rolling her eyes. "Gossiping again, no doubt," she muttered. It seemed like everyone in the mansion had nothing better to do than talk about her life with Enzo.
She made her way to the entrance of the mansion, reaching for the door when a sudden, unfamiliar honk sounded behind her, startling her. Frowning, she turned around to see a black Rolls Royce pulling up to the driveway. It looked brand new with red bows tied to its handles. The car came to a halt, drawing the attention of everyone nearby.
The driver’s door opened first, and Andrei stepped out, bowing his head before closing the door. A moment later, the front passenger door swung open, and Enzo hopped out. Adeline could feel eyes on her from every direction.
She looked up to see the balcony doors open, revealing Uncle Evans and Alfonso emerging to observe the scene. To her right, her nosy cousins peeked around the corner. And, of course, the maids were lined up, giggling as if they were watching a scene from a romantic drama.
Adeline groaned and facepalmed, muttering under her breath, "What the fuck are you up to now, Enzo?"
Enzo, catching sight of her, grinned. He pulled out a bouquet of flowers from the back seat before shutting the door.
Adeline’s eyes widened as he started walking toward her. She wanted to turn around and run, but she couldn’t do that in front of everyone.
As he approached, his grin seemed to widen, especially when he noticed that Adeline’s family was watching.
But just as Enzo reached her, he kept walking.
Adeline, frozen in place, blinked in confusion. "What..." she mumbled to herself, unsure of what Enzo was doing. She turned her head slightly to follow him, but just then, she felt a firm grip on her wrist.
Enzo stopped in his tracks, turned, and pulled her toward him. The sudden movement caught her completely off guard, her breath hitching as she stumbled forward. He let go of her wrist, only to take hold of her waist, steadying her frame against his, their faces now hovering mere inches apart.
He extended the bouquet towards her and nodded, urging her to take it. Seeing all eyes were still on her, she forced herself to take the bouquet.
"What the hell are you doing?" she muttered through clenched teeth, low enough for only Enzo to hear.
"I woke up today and thought, why not take my lovely fiancée on a date? But I couldn’t come empty-handed, could I?" He pulled back and gestured toward the Rolls Royce, spinning the car keys playfully in his fingers.
Adeline stiffened as squeals erupted from the maids behind her. Before she could react, Enzo reached out, brushing a few strands of hair away from her face.
"And so, Adeline Smith, would you do me the honor of going on a date with me?"
Adeline’s forced smile widened painfully. She glanced briefly at her uncles, Evans glaring down at them while Alfonso whispered something into his ear. Turning back to Enzo, she spoke sweetly. "Of course, Enzo. I’m your fiancée, aren’t I? Why wouldn’t I want to go on a date with you?"
Satisfied with her answer, Enzo took her free hand and pressed a kiss to the back of it.
Up on the balcony, Evans had seen enough. Huffing, he spun around and walked back into the mansion with Alfonso following close behind. The door closed shut with a loud thud as the two men moved into the sitting room. Alfonso flopped onto the couch, rubbing his temples with a weary sigh.
"You know," Alfonso began, his tone skeptical, "I used to think this whole ’engagement’ between Adeline and that man was just an act so she could get her inheritance. But after what I’ve seen so far... I’m not so sure. Those two might actually be crazy in love with each other. And to think, we didn’t even know they’d been seeing each other before the will was read. It’s... infuriating."
Evans couldn’t contain himself any longer. With a growl, he slammed his fist down on the glass coffee table in front of him. The impact rattled the crystal ashtray and glasses on its surface, and a thin crack spidered through the glass.
Alfonso glanced at him but remained unfazed by his brother’s outburst.
"Feel better?" he asked dryly, raising an eyebrow. "Losing your temper isn’t going to fix anything. What about the hitman you hired, anyway? It’s been a week. Not a single word. Do you even know if he’s doing anything, or is he just sitting on your money?"
