Chapter 65: Didn’t You Tell Them? 65

Enzo was dressed in a black tuxedo with his hair tied back neatly into a bun, not a strand out of place. Beside him, Adeline wore a tucked-in black shirt paired with blue jeans and a pair of black heels. She held a small handbag in her hand, her golden hair cascading down her back.

Enzo took a deep breath of the morning air that filtered in through the hallway’s open windows, exhaling before turning to Adeline with a relaxed smile. "Ah, what a lovely morning, hm, cupcake?"

Adeline nodded absentmindedly, not sharing his enthusiasm. Enzo’s hand slipped to her waist, pulling her closer to him. She blinked in surprise, glancing up at him as he leaned in.

"Isn’t this exciting?" he asked, his tone playful. "It’s almost like we’re going on a small, romantic couple’s trip."

Adeline scowled and knocked his hand away, stepping a bit to the side to put some distance between them. Raising her hand, she began ticking off fingers as she counted. "First of all, this is not a couple’s trip. Second, we’re going to a bar we’ve never heard of, in a city we’ve never been to, to find some guy we’re not even sure exists. We don’t know if Miranda even told us the truth."

She paused, taking a moment to catch her breath before continuing, "Third, even if this guy is real, we don’t know his name, which means finding him is going to be a pain in the ass. And fourth, if we do find him, he might already be expecting us and have an army of armed men ready to gun us down as soon as we show up. So no, Enzo, there’s nothing exciting about this."

Enzo chuckled at her rant. He nudged her shoulder playfully, causing her to stumble slightly. "Well, aren’t you a ray of sunshine? You’re no fun."

She caught her balance and shrugged, scooting back to his side as they approached the foyer. "I’m just saying."

Andrei reached the front doors and opened one of them. He stood to the side, waiting for Enzo and Adeline to step through, and just as they were about to, a voice echoed from behind them, halting their steps.

"And where on earth are you two going this time?"

The voice belonged to Alfonso.

Neither Adeline nor Enzo turned around immediately. Instead, Enzo leaned down toward Adeline, murmuring quietly. "Didn’t you tell them we were leaving?"

Adeline frowned, murmuring back. "Of course not. I didn’t know I was supposed to."

Just then, a female voice called out, "Adeline?"

Adeline turned with a smile plastered across her face, recognizing the voice as her aunt Svetlana’s. Her gaze landed on all three of her uncles and Svetlana, who was standing beside Alfonso.

"Hey, Auntie Svetlana!"

Evans stepped forward, his eyes flickering between her rolling suitcase and the backpack that was slung over Andrei’s shoulder. He stopped directly in front of her and placed a hand on her shoulder, forcing a concerned look. "You could at least let us know where you’re going. So we don’t have to worry like last time."

Before Adeline could respond, Enzo’s hand slipped onto her other shoulder, pulling her gently back to his side. The movement created a bit of distance between her and her uncle, causing his hand to fall off her shoulder.

Enzo gave Evans a polite nod. "We apologize, Uncle Evans. We planned on informing you all, but it simply slipped our minds."

From the corner of the foyer, Richard, who had been leaning against the wall, spoke up. "Then where exactly are you going?"

Enzo turned to Adeline with a smirk before leaning down and pressing a light kiss to the side of her head. The gesture caught her off guard, but she didn’t flinch or react negatively.

He straightened before turning back to her uncles. "We’re going on a little vacation. Just the two of us. We’ll be back in a few days."

Alfonso and Evans exchanged a skeptical glance, but after a moment, Evans nodded. "I see. Alright. Have a safe journey, then."

"Thank you." Enzo nodded, placing a hand on the small of Adeline’s back and gently nudging her toward the door.

The car pulled into the hotel parking lot in Libu City, and when it came to a full stop, Adeline opened her door and stepped out, stretching her legs after the long drive. Behind her, Enzo exited, adjusting the cuffs of his black blazer as he scanned their surroundings. Andrei got out from the driver’s side, moving back to the trunk to retrieve their luggage.

Dragging Adeline’s oversized rolling suitcase behind him, he approached Enzo, handing over the bags before bowing his head. "I’ve sent you the full address of the bar. If there’s anything else you need, please contact me."

Enzo gave a nod, patting him on the shoulder. "Good. Now move along."

Without another word, Andrei turned and headed back to the car, leaving them at the hotel entrance.

As Enzo began walking toward the front doors of the hotel, Adeline fell into step beside him.

The moment they stepped into their assigned room, Adeline’s eyes zeroed in on the beds. Seeing two large, soft mattresses neatly made, she broke into a smile and made a beeline for one.

"Finally," she muttered, plopping down on the edge and bouncing slightly to test the softness. She ran her hands over the plush duvet, nodding in satisfaction.

Turning to Enzo, who was busy setting their bags in the corner, she said, "If there’d only been one bed, I was going to make you sleep on the couch, by the way."

Enzo smirked, strolling over to her side. "Sure you would," he replied, his voice dripping with amusement. He reached out and patted her head lightly before walking past her toward the door.

As he twisted the doorknob, he glanced over his shoulder. "There’s still plenty of time to check out the bar. I’m going to rent a car. Meet me downstairs in ten minutes." He gave her a small wink before slipping out the door, leaving her rolling her eyes.

Exactly ten minutes later, Adeline stepped out of the hotel’s front doors. The honk of a car horn immediately caught her attention, and she turned to see a Rolls-Royce pulling up in front of her.
