Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Broken Leg

Moira Young cried all night, dragging her two swollen eyes as she crawled out of bed, and didn’t have the mind to eat breakfast, heading straight to school.

From the school gate to the classroom, her eyes constantly searched for Heath Sterling’s figure, but the more she hoped, the more disappointed she became. She slumped down at her desk, with images of Heath’s leg being broken running through her mind.

She vaguely sensed many people were watching her, but when she cautiously looked around, those people immediately turned their heads as if nothing had happened.

And these people were Heath’s good friends.

Moira’s heart kept pounding faster and faster. She tried hard to will herself to ask whether Heath had gone home, but her body seemed glued to the seat, unable to move.

The more it was like this, the more it tormented her.

She felt once more that they were watching her, this time she finally mustered the courage to walk over.

"Classmate, why didn’t Heath Sterling come to class today?" Moira asked guiltily, not daring to look others in the eye. If something happened to Heath, she would never forgive herself.

"Do you still not know why Heath didn’t come to class?" Carter Porter said, looking displeased. He was Heath’s closest buddy, his tone clearly showed disdain for Moira, but it was very evident they knew where Heath was.

"Ah, forget it, let’s just consider that Heath was blind for a moment, helped her so many times and got kicked aside when something happened!" someone next to Carter chimed in, casting a sideways glance at Moira.

Full of sarcasm, every word hit right to the heart.

"I told you before that these goody-two-shoes are the most hypocritical, but you didn’t believe me. Thanks to Heath for even helping her deal with Thea Thorne, and now what, Heath’s leg is broken, and he’s in the hospital, yet she’s feigning ignorance here, asking around, she’s truly a hypocrite!" one of Thea’s friends stepped out, seizing the opportunity to mock Moira now that everyone used to side with her.

"Heath is in the hospital?" Moira suddenly tensed, feeling both joy and sorrow. Joy that Heath had made it out alive, sorrow that he was hospitalized, and this was all because of her.

"Which hospital is he in?" Moira urgently pressed forward, completely ignoring the sound of the bell; right now, she just wanted to rush to the hospital to see Heath with her own eyes.

The teacher arrived, everyone quickly returned to their seats, but Moira was still standing in front of Carter’s desk, her eyes full of pleas and hope. Carter’s heart tightened unexpectedly; how could he bear such a gaze?

He turned his face away, pretending not to see.

"Moira Young, class has already started, quickly return to your seat." The teacher had always thought of Moira as a very good student, both obedient and diligent with excellent grades. Yet he couldn’t understand what was happening with her today.

"Carter, I beg you, just tell me where he is..." Moira disregarded the teacher, whispering humbly in front of Carter. Apart from her Uncle, she had never shown such an attitude to anyone.

She was really going all out.

Carter ignored her.

"Moira Young!" The teacher became a bit annoyed upon seeing this.

Carter softened seeing the situation. Moira had always been exceptionally well-behaved, never doing anything questionable, yet now she had, because of Heath.

"City Hospital, Orthopedic Department," Carter gritted his teeth and said.

Moira finally got the answer, she gave Carter a grateful glance and immediately ran out; she had to find Heath now.

"Moira Young, where are you going!" The teacher was stunned; never before had a student dared to dash out during class! Let alone that student being Moira Young!

Everyone was dumbfounded, what was going on!

But Carter felt an indescribable feeling in his heart, part admiration, part— warmth.

Moira didn’t have any money on her, and she had never gone out alone; she couldn’t even recognize the roads near the school, only constantly asking for directions.

Finally, exhausted, she ran to City Hospital, drenched in sweat, her clothes messy, appearing somewhat distressed.

"Nurse, is there a patient named Heath Sterling?" she panted her way to the nurse’s desk, unable to speak a complete sentence without gasping.

"Are you looking for Heath Sterling?" Before the nurse could answer, a very poised lady beside her spoke up with a stern and displeased expression.

Moira meekly nodded, judging by her attire, Moira had a clue in mind.

"You are his classmate, right? I am his mother, I want to ask you, who exactly was Heath with last night? I’ve asked around, and everyone claims not to know, do you know?" Without reason, Heath’s mother felt an unpleasantness towards Moira.

Moira suddenly stiffened, not daring to breathe, her small hands clutching at her clothes.

"Whose fault is it that my son’s leg got broken, I must skin her alive!"

Upon hearing this, Moira’s nose immediately felt sour, tears beginning to roll down from her eyes, completely beyond her control.
