Tale of the Red Dragon Without Dragon's Might-Chapter 13 - This is Investing
Chapter 13: Chapter 13 This is Investing
The book borrowed from Edwin was a novel, and only after reading it did Leon realize how terrible the plot was with its numerous flaws, such as the female protagonist being fickle and flitting between several men every day, but that didn't stop Leon from enjoying it thoroughly.
He now had enough food to fill his stomach, but he was truly starved for intellectual nourishment.
Normally, it would take Leon three days to finish the book, but this time he had only read half of it in three days because he had accidentally found a footprint, which appeared to be from some type of deer, and he had been persistently tracking its owner.
Salovis, being a baby dragon with Dragon Inheritance, could intuitively master various types of knowledge and skills, such as Dragon Language, Universal Language, throat locks, neck bites, death rolls—she naturally executed them. However, Leon wasn't lacking either, with knowledge brought from his world.
Starting from one footprint, Leon gradually discovered more footprints, signs of nibbled grass, fresh dung; he was certain there was a deer nearby and it wasn't small.
Today Leon was again searching for the deer, which he didn't find, but Dragon Sister appeared once more.
"Why aren't you in your burrow, running around here instead?" Salovis landed beside Leon, looking around and asked, "Have you given up eating fish and started on grass?"
"You're the one eating grass." Leon bared his teeth at Dragon Sister, not minding sharing his thoughts.
After listening, Salovis laughed maliciously, "I think you don't need to look anymore, I ate deer meat yesterday."
Leon fell silent instantaneously, suddenly feeling the reason he could only eat fish was because Mother Dragon had eaten all the larger prey nearby, leaving only the smaller animals, which could hide exceedingly well... Of course, the main reason he was aware of was that he had not ventured far, always lingering near the nest.
Either way, Leon suddenly lost interest.
"What are you here for this time?" Leon asked, "To boast about what you ate yesterday, or the day before?"
Suddenly, Leon nodded, continuing, "I just realized our mother doesn't seem to care about kin, relying solely on herself to be well-fed and well-clothed... There are Kobolds though."
"Those Kobolds... Mother has never considered them as kin; those creatures aren't even qualified to be kin or servants." Salovis said, "Mother's plan is to ignite the mountain we live on, transforming it into a volcano."
"Reviving a dormant volcano is possible, but turning a regular mountain into a volcano must require divine power, right?" Leon looked up at the peak where Dragon Nest was, "Is that actually a dormant volcano? It doesn't look it at all."
"You definitely can't tell." Dragon Sister continued, "First ignite the volcano, then open a portal to the Fire Element Plane to attract Fire Elements, Salamanders, Fire Dwarves..."
"If you want to attract Salamanders, then you can't count on Fire Dwarves." Leon said, "Salamanders despise Fire Dwarves and cannot coexist peacefully."
"I'm the boss. I don't care what grudges they hold; I demand peace if I want peace, and they'll regret not obeying me," Salovis spoke fiercely, her Red Dragon tyrannical nature prominently displayed.
Leon pursed his lips noncommittally, returning to the matter at hand, "You still haven't said what you came for."
Salovis finally remembered the important issue.
"Yesterday, Edwin came to Dragon Nest to see Mother Dragon, he said his experiment had success."
"And then?" Leon asked eagerly.
"He said that you greatly helped his experiment..." Salovis recounted what happened—
Edwin had voluntarily gone to Dragon Nest to find Mother Dragon, repeatedly boasting his experiment had a major breakthrough, inviting Mother Dragon to view his experimental results, repeatedly praising Leon for inspiring him greatly, even suggesting at one point he wanted to take Leon as a student.
Salovis babbled on a lot, then blinking her big eyes curiously at Leon, she asked, "What did you say to him that inspired him so much?"
"I didn't say anything." Being a Red Dragon and still modest, Leon was definitely an oddity.
Dragon Sister naturally wasn't easily dismissed, pressing, "What exactly did you say?"
"Even if I told you, you wouldn't understand."
"If you don't tell me, I definitely won't understand."
"Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, cyanuric chloride, which do you understand?"
"Um..."
"Heh."
"What's the use of knowing those things? I'm not an alchemist, I can just catch a few alchemists to serve me if I want alchemy."
"Heh."
"You're so annoying, I'm going to bite you." Salovis pounced on Leon and bit his big tail.
Leon didn't have any thoughts of pity or mercy, and immediately fought back; the two dragons started to tussle with each other.
Leon was definitely stronger than Dragon Sister, but without using Sword Control Technique and immobilization spell, it was not easy nor quick to defeat her.
Leon had not yet pinned Dragon Sister down and immobilized her, instead, he could only furiously dig the ground, his legs struggling and digging out two big holes, when suddenly a deafening explosion sounded, shaking the earth like a volcanic eruption.
Hearing the explosion, Leon couldn't care about suppressing Dragon Sister anymore and slowly turned his head toward the direction of the sound.
"What's that sound?" Salovis also didn't care so much anymore, letting Leon lie on top of her.
"Explosion." Leon answered.
"Why is there an explosion?" Salovis said, "Didn't they say the test explosion was days away? The location isn't even decided yet."
Hearing this, a sense of unease unpredictably arose in Leon's heart.
"I need to go see." Dragon Sister pushed the baby dragon lying on top of her and said without suspecting anything, "Don't be arrogant, even if you gave that guy a lot of inspiration, don't expect to soar to the skies."
Salovis flapped her wings and flew up, turning her head to find that Leon hadn't moved at all.
"Aren't you coming?" she asked.
"Yes, yes, I am." Leon stuttered.
Just as the two youngsters took off, heading toward the site of the explosion, Mother Dragon had already landed at the explosion site—the manor now a ruin from the explosion, looking at the disheveled Edwin, her mouth sparking with embers, threatening, "I need an explanation."
"Just a small accident," Edwin said somewhat awkwardly and with a lingering fear, grateful for the many automatic spells on him, or else he might have been doomed today, "I didn't expect it to be so unstable, a small bump can set it off."
"Heh, my new invention's power isn't bad, right?" Edwin chuckled, "The last accidental explosion wasn't as powerful."
"An oversight... It seems my experimental results still need some time to be perfected," Edwin disregarded the explosion completely, in his mind this was already a success, just a small hiccup before success and an amusing story to tell after.
"Next time this won't happen, now I need some money to rebuild..." Edwin was dusting off his clothes when he suddenly noticed that Mother Dragon was glaring at him fiercely.
From various perspectives, Red Dragon absolutely was not an excellent venture investor, lacking deep industry knowledge, deep understanding of the investment project, accurate risk assessment ability, enough patience, and a long-term investment perspective, especially high professional ethics.
"You've wasted all my investments, and now you still want money from me?" Mother Dragon roared furiously, "I should have realized it earlier, you mages are best at scamming funds, and now you've dared to scam me."
"Now, either compensate me, or leave your life here." Mother Dragon's throat glowed, like a piece of red-hot iron, anyone who knew of her title "Lady Melt Throat" would understand she was charging up, ready to unleash scorching Flame Breath.
"Calm down a bit," Edwin shouted.
Clearly, the enraged Red Dragon was absolutely unable to calm down.
Meanwhile, Leon and Salovis finally arrived near the explosion site.

"Why is your teacher fighting with Mother?" Dragon Sister asked.
"What 'my teacher'?" Leon swallowed, "Don't falsely slander someone's reputation."
