Selene POV

I jumped with fright when I saw Noah leaning casually against the wall, his face was blank and his eyes closed. "Noah?" I called out coming closer to him "Are you alright? What are you doing out here?"

My heart was pounding in my chest as his eyes fluttered slowly. I searched his eyes wondering how long he’s been here for and if he had listened to my conversation with Janet. If he had then it would be a problem because I had sounded like I knew what was going on and I like it. I tried to remember everything I said, hoping I didn’t reveal anything of my intentions.

I watched as he sighed softly and pushed away from the wall "Are you done with Janet?" he asked quietly, staring at the wristwatch strapped around his left wrist. "That took longer than I had anticipated," he murmured and looked up to me for a response.

"Yes," I nodded smiling at him "We just finished and ... how long have you been here?’ I asked trying to read his face "I can’t believe you stayed under the sun and...".

"A while, Selene..." he said flatly looking at me without interest "And don’t worry, I was far from both of you and heard nothing. I am here because I forgot to tell you that we would be attending two meetings today. One is a meeting with the Alphas that have been in Moon Whispers for nearly a month now and secondly, with the pack elders also,".

"You would have dropped me a text or asked my maid to inform me as soon as I returned to my room, standing here all this while waiting..." I sighed "C’mon Noah... I don’t feel comfortable when you do all these chivalrous acts. Not only does it make me uncomfortable, it makes me feel bad,".

"I could drop a message with your maids and you might show up after 24 hours or not at all and..." he stopped me with a raise of his index finger "Don’t argue Selene. You’ve done it more times than I can count and please, I don’t want to quarrel with you today and maybe forever too. It’s too draining and I need my wits about me. so please go to your room and change into something presentable. The meeting will start in about thirty minutes and we did to dismiss this Alphas because they’re leaving today,".

"Then why do you need me?" I crossed my hands around my body, already angry at his subtle way of complaining that I was a nag "The last time I remember, you were the King and you gave all the decisions and...".

"And if I recall too," he stopped me midsentence, his voice was hard and both of his hands were clenched by his side as he came closer to me and said through gritted teeth "You’re the Luna of this pack and you’re supposed to be with me whenever I am meeting visitor or anything that concerns passing verdicts. Besides, I am yet to make an official introduction of you to the Alphas,".

"How about the pack elders?" I continued stubbornly "You’ve introduced me to them and I know every one of them more than I know myself now. Why do I need to be in that meeting? I haven’t had time to be with the girls for some days now and was hoping to spend the rest of the day with them,".

I purposely mentioned the girls hoping it would soften him up but he continued coldly. "Listen, you’re going to stand amid the pack elders and officials and try to convince them why you need the office of the Luna to be reinstated, if they agree, I will approve of it and work out the other details but you can sit it out if you want... You’re first a Luna before a mother, Selene... you must perform your duties as a Luna first!" he raised his voice agitated. After staring at me for a while... he looked away and murmured "Go dress up and meet me in the meeting hall," he said softly and turned to leave.

I just stood there watching him... surprised at the erratic way he was acting while trying to assess the situation. I’ve heard about this side of Noah and I’ve only experienced it once but not personally. Today would be brutal.

When he had walked for a while, he turned to discover that I was not following him and was making no attempt to do so. Retracing his footsteps, he sidled next to me. "What’s the problem, Selene?" I saw tenderness in his eyes for a second before his cold eyes flickered up and down my frame,".

"Nothing!" I shook my head and smiled at him then brushed past him towards the pack house. I went straight to my room. I wanted to shower but decided against it since it might take a lot of my time, so I selected one of the ceremonial Luna attires and in a few minutes, I was on my way to the meeting hall.

As soon as I was ushered into the rowdy hall, my eyes scanned the hall and immediately I spotted Xavier and Kurtis at one corner, quiet while the rest of the Alphas were talking amongst themselves with reckless abandon. My eyes also strayed to Noah who was sitting on the raised platform in the hall. He was writing something on a writing pad in front of him

I asked for the guard at the door to announce my presence and as soon as he did, everyone rose to their feet and bowed in my direction, even Noah who had been writing rose but didn’t bow in my direction. Whatever this was, I hope it would be over soon enough and I hope to the moon that we would not have a lot of casualties.

I offered the faintest of nods in acknowledgement to their greetings as I passed feeling my pulse quicken as their collective scrutiny. Noah came closer to the edge of the platform and helped me up then guided me to the empty seat beside him before he turned around to his seat.

His eyes rested at the guards at the door and with a loud voice that reverberated through the hall, he said "We will now begin the meeting, close the doors!"
