Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 161: She makes decisions without consulting me,
Chapter 161: She makes decisions without consulting me,
Selene POV
I was on time on the second day of our session with Janet.
She had her leg on her desk and was talking to someone on the phone when I walked in. I saw the shocked expression on her face as she saw me. After murmuring over the phone to whomever she had been speaking to, she slowly brought her leg down from the table, looking flustered.
"You’re on time, Selene," she commented hurrying up to clear the used cup and paper plates of food on her table "I wasn’t expecting anyone until at least five minutes after nine. I guess you’re eager to start today’s session, right?"
"It’s Luna Selene, Janet!" I corrected her calmly, refusing to sit. The table in front of the couch where I was supposed to sit was equally untidy. "And I am only five minutes on time. You said it yourself that you love to keep to time in everything you do, shouldn’t you be glad that I am here?"
"Of course!" she nodded, removing several wipes from the pack on her table as she rushed over to the table, I was standing close and began to wipe it clean. I watched as she stacked the plates and hurried towards the small kitchenette attached to the room. In quick sessions, she began to wash the plates and was soon done. As she was about to wipe her hand on the apron hanging next to the kitchen sink, the door opened again and Noah entered.
Her hair was still messy, the buttons on her blouse were undone and I had a feeling that she was yet to shower.
"Selene?" Noah rushed to my side immediately "Is everything alright? You’re here already,".
I shook his hands away from my shoulders taking a side step to keep the distance between us "That’s because there was so much fuss about my late coming yesterday and I decided to keep to time today, but it appears that your therapist is not even prepared to have us and you came fifteen minutes late,".
"I had to stop by at the office to sign some important documents including your induction as Luna," Noah defended. Simultaneously, we turned to Janet whose cheeks were red as crimson.
"I lost track of time," she lowered her gaze "My husband called this morning and you know how it can be when you’re talking with your partner. So, we were having a long chat, honestly, I didn’t know it was this late. I am so sorry and if you could please give me twenty minutes, I’ll freshen up and be out in no time. Please..." she rubbed both of her hands together.
"I can’t believe this is happening," I murmured rolling my eyes as I turned on my heels and started for the door. I could hear Noah’s footsteps behind me as she rushed to catch up with me. Ignoring his quiet calls as I left the office and was now in the doorway, I continued towards the garden. A little walk for twenty minutes will help soothe my nerves. I could still hear Noah behind me. When we had left the pack house, Noah suddenly reached for my hands and jerked me towards him.
"Hey, slowdown will you! Is it because of yesterday? Are you still angry at what I said? I’m so sorry my darling and now that I think about it, I didn’t go through it as I should have gone about it a better way, uhm... If it gives you any consolation, I’ve reached out to Xavier today to schedule a meeting with him so that we can talk,".
"Good for you!" I replied and wiggled out of his hold "I have already moved on, so let’s not talk about it anymore,". I wanted to confront him about what I saw yesterday but the more you let a man know how he hurts you, the more you become more vulnerable in his eyes. The only way I can win is to act unbothered.
"C’mon, Selene," he whined again and tried to reach for me but I sidestepped him so he grabbed empty air "Why are you acting strange this morning? Isn’t it early for shenanigans like this?"
"I should be asking you the same question, Noah... you were beside yourself last night. In fact, at a point, I felt like you’d never want to see me again. Why are you suddenly acting all soft and cute with me? It’s suspicious and uncomfortable?"
"Suspicious and uncomfortable?" he chuckled "C’mon, Selene... I am still the same person from yesterday. The events of yesterday felt like it was ten years and so overwhelming. I was over the top with my feelings but now, I am better. A good night’s sleep I should think. Also, we should start getting ready to become parents, so... as soon as therapy is over we should...".
"Parents?" I stopped him midsentence and turned to stare at him curiously "What on earth are you talking about?"
It was his turn to look at me strangely "To become father and mother... Selene... to give birth to a child, that would also be my heir. What else would it mean?" he must have seen the confusion on my face because he went on to ask. "Wait! When you said you wanted to send the girls with their father to Greyhound, what exactly did you mean?"
I stared motionless at him as the implications dawned on me. It seems like the reason why he suddenly changed his mind about talking to Xavier was because he hoped that with the girls out of the way, we could start our own family. What on earth could I offer him now that would placate him enough to still talk to Xavier? I wanted the girls out of the way so I could concentrate on other things. I knew Xavier was crazy for him and would be a doting parent... so...As I opened my mouth to reply a servant ran up to us.
"Your Majesty," she murmured with a bow, "Janet asked me to inform both of you that she’s ready to have you now,".
"Oh!" I nodded, genuinely pleased at the distraction "We should go now, dear," I smiled at Noah and without waiting for him, I followed the servant. When we got to the office, Janet was dressed and perusing through a book. As she saw us, she rose to her feet and walked to the door to greet us.
"Your Majesties, I am truly sorry for what happened today, moving forward, it will never happen I can assure you and I’ll make it up to both of you somehow. Now... are you ..."
"You won’t let us accept your apology; you’re already assuming we have. Is that not getting ahead of yourself, Janet?" I interrupted her with a cold gaze.
Her facial expression did not change at what I said, she simply nodded and gave me a wide grin before her eyes rested on me "Luna Selene, I am sorry for today and I hope you don’t make a big deal out of it. Besides we need to catch up with what we’ve missed out on today. I am sure you have other important things to do besides this, and so do I. So, let’s keep sentiments aside and make the most of the little time we have left before noon,".
"Let’s forgive her baby," Noah murmured in my ears making my skin crawl. I was becoming irritated at his proximity. The only way to end it was to get this thing out of the way and it was possible that I could spend the whole day without running into him after here. So, I had to agree.
Brushing past both of them, I settled on the chair I was on yesterday and waited for them to join me. When we were all seated, Janet turned to me again, smiling. "Before we go on with today’s session, I’d like to congratulate you Luna Selene for your official, and recognizable appointment as the Luna of Moon Whispers. Hopefully, other packs will copy it and apply it in their packs. So... congratulations,".
"How did you know?" I threw at her "Unless you’re saying you listen to gossip because ideally, that’s the only way you could have heard,".
"Yes..." she nodded rapidly "It was all over the place. The servants... the people, almost everyone was talking about it and I overheard. Now..." she said quickly and reached for the writing pad we submitted yesterday "We would talk about the exercise we did yesterday’s regarding writing down all the things you hate and like that your partner does. So, first, we’ll be starting with you," she pointed at Noah, selected his writing pad and opened it.
Something was off just now. The way she had dismissed what I was asking her and moved on to Noah was confusing even for me. It was as if she didn’t want to talk about how she found out about yesterday. I was already suspicious of her but this piqued my suspicion.
"So, we would do one like and one dislike," she told us "Now, the first like is -
I like my wife because she is smart unlike other women whom I have met," she looked up from the writing pad "That’s a good one, Noah and I think it is explanatory because we are looking at turning the dislike into a like, let’s move on to the dislike,".
"She makes decisions without consulting me," she read and looked up at Noah "Can you please expound on that a bit?"
