Xavier POV

We were all seated in the meeting room where the pack elders and other pack officials usually meet. My grandfather – Grand Lycan Leonard was sitting close to the raised platform where Noah would sit while my mom was next to him, she would occasionally bend towards him and ask him if he was alright. It was so funny that I had to hold back the laughter bubbling inside me.

One would think Selene didn’t only slap my grandfather with the pity airs he was putting on. He was looking so bleak and I hoped for his sake it was a show or maybe to gain Noah’s sympathy. I was worried about this impromptu meeting that my mom had roped me in. This wasn’t the time to get on Noah’s bad side, especially with everything that had happened.

I didn’t expect he would strip me of my title as Coalition Leader and it came as a big blow to me but now, I was willing to do anything to reclaim it. Maybe three years ago I would not bother and ignore everything and continue with my life but now, I have children whom I must protect. I am a father and that’s what matters more than anything now.

I pulled out my phone from my pocket and sent maybe the tenth text since we came into the meeting hall to my mom "Mom, we shouldn’t be doing this. Noah might be pissed if he finds out that we called an impromptu meeting that he didn’t organize,". As usual, she read the message, gave me a side glance and ignored it again.

I exhaled again, if I waited five more minutes and there was no sign of him, I would find a way to slip out of the hall to save my head. I had barely finished having the thought when the door was thrown open and Noah walked in with a frown on his face.

"This better be good," he said as he came to the centre of the hall and stood, his eyes travelling around the hall "Because if it’s not, then I will have you all punished for bringing me out of something really important,".

"Of course, Your Majesty," One of the Pack Elders stood up "I know how much you hate to waste time so we’ll just get straight to the point and we hope that with everything you will see, you will judge if it was an important matter worth reporting or not,". freewebnøvel.coɱ

The pack elder signalled to me... I was at the projector stand and I felt so stupid as Noah’s gaze shifted to me. Our eyes met for a few seconds before I looked away. Sighing one more time, I turned on the projector and played the recorded video clip. The hall quietened filled with the conversation between my grandfather and Selene in the video. No one bothered to look at the screen as we had all seen it, rather we were looking at Noah whose expression had not changed from what was there since he first came in.

My palms became sweaty at the nonchalant attitude he was putting on. It didn’t only make him scary but made everyone sitting in the hall at that moment worried too. When the video ended, the lights came on and everyone turned towards Noah. A few minutes passed and he hadn’t said a word.

"Your Majesty?" another pack official called out "You’re not saying anything. Perhaps you’re in shock or maybe you didn’t understand the video. With your permission, I can explain everything that happened in it and also, your father is present to share the experience first-hand,".

Noah scoffed, running a hand through his hair as he turned to the official "Wait a second... is this why I was called? To come and watch this? Is this the emergency that my dear sister Nora was bawling all over the phone for and I thought we were under attack or someone was dying but it appears," he swivelled to where his dad was "That my dear father is alive and well,".

"Your...Your... Majesty!" several of the pack elders stuttered their eyes glazed with confusion "Are you going to pretend the Luna didn’t just disrespect the Grand Lycan by slapping him? It’s not only an abomination but disrespect to the royal family and the entire Easter region. May I also remind you, Your Majesty... he is the Grand Lycan... just like you he once ruled over this Pack. No matter how brazen I am, I would never slap you across your cheeks, talk more of the Grand Lycan with his years of experience, and wisdom,".

"What if I provoke you... maybe hit your wife in your presence or defile your daughters in your presence... won’t you have a similar reaction to this?" Noah asked the elder "Won’t you in the haze of your anger retaliate and try to kill me?"

"Your Majesty, it is not the same situation. Yours is a fictional narrative which can never happen because you’re dignified but this happened in real life and the Luna...".

"I can’t believe you all can be so stupid and gullible!" he murmured but loud enough for us to hear "Hasn’t it occurred to you that whatever confrontation the Grand Lycan had with the Luna was solely to provoke her or you want to tell me that a camera magically appeared and captured everything? Our CCTVs cannot do something so clean...you know... the right angles... voice... everything is like a five-star movie. This was PLANNED!" he yelled "And when you leave your cub with a Lion, you don’t expect it to baby it and take care of it... it FUCKING!!! Eats it..." he yelled again, his chest heaving.

After a while, he sighed and turned to me "Can I have the recording of this video?" he stretched his hand to me and without waiting to be asked twice, I dropped it on his palms. "How many of you have the video on your phone?" he turned to the hall.

They were all still stunned, so they didn’t answer immediately.

"ARE YOU ALL DEAF?" Noah thundered making all of them jump with fear "How many of you have this video on your phone? In fact... just submit your phones to me. I’ll send back a new one or maybe the old one if I am patient enough,".

Quietly, the pack elders and officials walked towards him, submitting the phones to him which he was dropping on the table next to him. When they finished, he turned to me and I knew he wanted me to pack up the phones.

"Please... for the love of the moon... don’t call me next time for stupid things like this, okay? I’ll leave now," Noah said and started towards the door.

My mom rose to her feet her eyes blazing with rage as she shouted at him "So you’re going to dishonour our father to please that wannabe you call your wife?"

"Watch your tone, Nora," he stopped and turned to her "I am going to overlook the fact that a meeting was held without my permission and in my absence... do you all know what that is called? Treason...but I will overlook for your sakes and we’ll call it even,".

"Even?" my mom left her seat and marched towards him "She insulted our father... she laid hands on him and this is not the first time. She has been rude to me. She has...".

"Nora listen," Noah sighed, I could tell he was frustrated "I don’t have time for this, okay? If you wanted to settle something that happened in the family, you would have come to me and not exposed it here to everyone. It is you who is disrespecting the Grand Lycan. If my wife does something you report her to me and not the elders, okay?" he said soothingly and tried to leave again.

"You must name her punishment, your Majesty," One of the pack officials suddenly stood in front of him blocking his path and other elders and officials followed suit "You cannot let this go unpunished else the people would soon spit and disrespect us. This is not only for the Grand Lycan... it is also for us. If you do not protect our legacy and offices by handing the Luna over to the disciplinary committee then you’d have to...".

"She’s my wife," Noah said calmly "I’ll choose what and how she’s to be punished, don’t worry and thank you all for your concern," he tried to pass but they clustered together blocking his path again.

"The Luna has committed a grave crime... you must do the right thing and...".

"AND I SAID SHE’S MY WIFE AND MY MATE!!!" He thundered as his pupil went dark immediately and his voice deepened "I choose how to punish her and not you lots. This matter ends here... if there one more mention about this... I would charge you all with treason and you know..." his pupils returned to their normal colour "I don’t bluff. Erase all the videos regarding this... and make sure it doesn’t leave this room. If it does, then all of you present will be held accountable,".

"Your Majesty..." My mom’s eyes filled up with tears. You can’t do this,".

"I can..." Noah smiled wryly "I am the Lycan King... and Selene – my wife, my Luna, my mate... I love her so much and I would protect her when I see there’s a gang up. So, sorry folks... I will do what pleases me now. So... everyone return to your houses and forget about today. Xavier..." he turned to me "Have those phones delivered to my office now and I will see you when I’m done today,".

He gave us one last look and brushed past the elders who were too stunned to speak.

My mom sank to the ground and started crying.
