Selene POV

Kragen walked up to me and took both of my hands, our gazes met and held. The body of the woman he was in had blue eyes... not the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen but with him inside of her... it felt creepy.

"Listen to me, Selene..." he sighed squatting in front of me "You cannot bail out of me, now...that day I gave you the option to choose and believe me if you had chosen to have your babies who had barely formed as pups go, we would not be here having this conversation. You’ll find a perfect man, have tons of babies with him and everything will be alright. You choose this path, Selene and that’s because of that maternal instinct to protect your pup,".

"Yes," he nodded "And one of those ways is not to get Brooke fired. Noah still has a thing for Brooke in his heart... a weakness because she was his first and was a good first. So, he doesn’t love her nearly as much as he does you but he could if you keep putting the spotlight on her. You need to learn to control your emotions better, Selene. "My silence is my power?" I scoffed "Do you have any idea what I put up with that family day after day? The amount of abuse you want me to endure and play some cold, unfeeling queen? I can’t do that Kragen. Maybe I am not cut out for this but I can’t do this, so please...".

"You can and you must!" Kragen rolled his eyes. "Right now, the family do not have a lot of goodwill towards you and you need it for the future. You cannot be fighting with your father-in-law to the extent you go physical. I know how these people work but believe me, everything they do is to take you down piece by piece. When the pack can no longer put up with you... when Noah can no longer cover you and would have to make the ultimate decision... that’s exactly what they want,".

I exhaled, hating that everything he was saying was the truth. "So, what do you suggest? What do you want me to do?"

"Got it!" I rolled my eyes.

"Second, you look for your Leonard Carrell – your father-in-law and apologize. Tell him you were tired and wasn’t thinking and a lot of sweet things he’d want to hear and...".

"You think he would believe me?" I interrupted with a scoff "Leonard Carrell has had suspicions about me from the very first day. He knows I don’t give a damn about him and would take my apology with a grain of salt,".

"Just do it anyways!" Kragen sighed "It’s all for formality’s sake and to act like you’ve been broken else these people will make your life a living hell because everyone would try to break you. After that, you reach out to the Pack Elders and Officials... Selene you must ace your acting skills with these people... they’re the pillar of every pack and if you need to be in charge one day, they’re the first people you should disarm,".

"So, what are you suggesting?"

"You’ll meet them and apologize and then ask for punishment. I’ll do my best to make sure the punishment is light and bearable but you must ask for punishment. That way, they’ll feel like you want to be in their good books and they’ll reveal their true nature so it will be easy for us to deal with them last, you need to mend your relationship with your in-laws and no communication with Xavier for the mean-time. "Yeah," Kragen nodded "And Selene..." he looked at me wistfully "I wish it could be done another way but it’s just this. "Wait!" I turned to him curiously "What are you talking about? You promised to do this with me,".

"Yes, but I cannot always be taking the forms of people whenever I need to speak to you. It wears me out and weakens me and I need all the energy I can get. I need to preserve it for the big shift and I’ve been getting a lot of sanctions lately... I need to be careful for both our sakes,".

"Then how will you be my guide?" I stared at him incredulously "When you’re leaving,".

My heart sank as I stared at him, wondering if it was a joke but Kragen does not joke with things like this. "A-Are you serious?" I asked fighting the panic I could feel rising. "You do know all these occasional visits and conversations boost my confidence, right?"

"Nothing will change, Selene!" he tried to touch my cheek again but I took a step away from him.

"You want me alone to take on the Carrells’ and the Steeles’...It’s difficult with you here... imagine how it will be when you’re not here. I’m going to miss you, Kragen... you’re the only friend I have. Please... there must be a way,".

"Selene!" he tried to reach for me but I evaded him.
