Xavier POV

"You! A god?" I pointed at Kragen then doubled over with laughter. When I have exhausted my laughter, I looked up at him. "Oh please! If you’re a god then what are you doing down here and with people like us. It’s too early for this or wait!" I paused and raised my hand "Is this the kind of scam you play to innocent, unsuspecting...".

"What are you talking about?" Kragen interrupted me with a scoff "What will make me claim something I am not, Xavier. Not everyone is like you, okay? And the only reason why I am taking it easy on you is because of your girls. They honestly do not deserve a negligent dad like you,".

My heart squeezed with annoyance at his description of me. "I am not a negligent dad," I countered "How about Selene? I’ve been with her and I know how she leaves the girls for days without stopping to know if they’re doing well. Time and again, she would leave them at the mercy of their nannies and yet you’re playing favorites, because she’s your friend,".

Kragen stared at me for a few minutes and shook his head. Then he turned to Lucius "I wonder why you’re still with him. Anyways, I’ll reach out in a few days, there are lots of things I want to confirm first before I make a move, so, I’ll keep in touch,".

Lucius nodded wordlessly. Kragen turned to me one last time and gave me a once over before he left. As soon as we were alone, I caught Lucius’s gaze on me. "What?" I scoffed "Don’t tell me you believed all of his lies? Oh, please...".

"It’s fine, Xavier," Lucius shook his head stifling a yawn, "It’s been a long day already and I just want to kick back and relax. I’ll meet up with you later,".

"C’mon, Lucius," I sighed "Fine, I’m sorry. It’s just that he was so annoying and for the life of me, I don’t understand the kind of friends that Selene makes. Either they’re all deranged or something else but that’s supposed to be the least of your worries, okay? I just feel like he’s over exaggerating all the things he said. Especially the one of I and Belinda’s fate intertwining. I don’t know what that means,".

"And you’re not bothered about it from everything I’ve gathered so far but all I can say to you, Xavier is you really need to be careful. Belinda said a lot of things that even in my wildest imaginations I would never think you’d do that. That girl messed you up and if it was really Jared who sent her then..." Lucius shook his head "There’s something he must want,".

"What do you mean?"

Before Lucius had the chance to reply, one of the pack servants ran into the living room and fell on his face as soon as he saw me. "Alpha," he panted "Alpha Jared is here to see you. Every attempt to dissuade him from...".

"Did you ask your men not to let me into the pack house?" the servant barely finished when Jared glided into the living room with a sinister expression on his face "You’ve really got a lot of nerves, Xavier. Honestly and I’ll teach you how to clip it...".

Before I could make sense of what was happening, he pulled out a gun and shot the servant straight on the forehead. I wanted to jump and retaliate but Lucius held me back.

"Are you angry?" Jared sauntered over to me, a mocking expression on his face "Really? Over a servant? Then what they say about you must be the truth that you care so much about everyone in your pack and I heard you’re trying to imitate your uncle by abolishing the Omega-slave system. It’s not a problem for me because... hey... it’s none of my business but why wasn’t I informed?"

"Alpha..." Lucuis came to stand in front of me, his expressions controlled as he faced, Jared. I saw that Jared flinched and took a step backwards. "If we had known you were going to visit us today, we would have made special plans for you,".

"I have the right to go any goddamn place that I wish to, Beta," Jared retorted "Besides, why do I need to tell you that I am coming? Are you hiding something? Is there something you don’t want me to see or know about that is done here?"

"Alpha!" Lucius continued, ignoring his questions "We’re going to make an allowance this time and an excuse with hopes that something truly must have made you not to inform us of your visit but the next time you drop in unannounced, we’ll have no choice but to send you back,".

"What!" Jared’s eyes widened with surprise "How dare you?"

"Jared!" I growled "You’re the Coalition leader and your only job is to oversee us as a body and not to play our roles as Alpha. There are rules and regulations that have been set in place for the longest of time and you have no right to break them. Noone is above the law. Now, it’s been a long day already and I really don’t have time for a chit chat, is there anything I can do for you?"

He nodded his head severally, chuckling sinisterly as he turned to the men around him. Kragen’s words flashed in my mind as I stared at him wondering if he was truly the other person. If he had escaped the fate of the Dark Moon and has the ability to seize the powers of the heaven... should I be worried?

I didn’t pay a lot of attention to what Kragen was trying to point out.

"I’ll make sure you pay for this, Xavier," he said eventually. "Just because your uncle is the Lycan King doesn’t make you untouchable but anyways we’re here to search your pack,".

"Search my pack?" I arched a brow towards him "I don’t understand? Is something miss in yours?"

"An anonymous tip informed us that one of the Alphas might be hiding something of great importance to me and...".

"No!" I didn’t wait for him to finish "You’re not going to search my pack. It’s not under your jurisdiction and I don’t want you to. Tell, your so-called anonymous tip to give you the exact location of whatever it is you’re looking for,".

His eyes hardened as he stared at me. After a long time, he shifted his gaze and laughed "C’mon Xavier... I don’t know why we fight a lot when we easily can become the best of friends and amazing at that. I am not the enemy here and I am only trying to do my job as the Coalition leader and ensure that the region is secured and our packs are driving. If all of our packs do well, it’ll affect all of us positively. So..."

He trailed off and froze as his eyes looked over my head. Following the direction of his eyes, I turned and was surprised to see some prisoners been led into the living room by Gamma Theo. In first place was Belinda. A complicated look passed through Jared’s eyes when he saw her and he was unable to hide it.

"Alpha," Theo called my attention "After careful investigation and interrogation, we’ve narrowed down the perpetrators to this number but my bet is on the first culprit," he pointed at Belinda. "First of all, she was the only one in the room at the time that everything happened and she doesn’t have a strong alibi,".

"How about the others?" I asked.

"They’ve confessed, Alpha," Gamma Theo looked at Jared and shifted uncomfortably "Some of them have confessed to being spies sent by other Alphas to the pack but it’s a whole detail and I didn’t know you had company. So... we’ll talk later,".

"Sure thing," I nodded then turned to Jared "You were going to say something...".

"Well, I..." he started to speak but Theo interrupted him again.

"The first culprit said something..." he paused and turned to Jared "Rather strange and it’s really important you come within a few minutes. You know when you’ve broken their spirit and they confess, it’s always quite hard to make them repeat what they said. So, let’s take advantage of the opportunity,".

"What did she say?" Jared said suddenly.

We all turned to him, with a strange expression. When he noticed our gazes, he scoffed and shrugged "C’mon guys, I am the Coalition Leader and since I am here...".

"You’re not supposed to meddle in my Pack’s business, Coalition leader," I mocked "So, if there’s nothing more to say, could you please leave?"

"C’mon, Xavier," he slapped my back flashing me a wide grin "We don’t need to fight about this. Something must have happened for you to arraign all these people. It’s not a bad thing if you decide to share? C’mon, don’t be a kill joy,".

"Thank you for the offer but we’re content. Okay? Now if there’s nothing else, you really must leave now so we’ll continue with our pack activities,".

He nodded and his gaze flitted to Belinda again whose head was lowered to her chest. He turned to go and had walked only a few steps to the door when he turned again.

"Alpha Xavier... I know this may sound strange but a few days ago, we got a report of a rogue roaming around and picking young pups. I don’t know if you heard it but now that I think about it... I think, this first person..." he pointed at Belinda "Fits the description,".

The corners of my mouth lifted into a smirk "That’s not possible, Jared," I said.

"It is here," Jared insisted. "The picture provided matches with her. Fine, I will take her with me and if she’s not the one, I’ll have her returned,".

"Jared..." I laughed "Belinda is my mistress,".
