Selene POV

The only thing I could think of right now was my bed and it wasn’t 10am yet.

"Seems like you had a busy night?" Noah leaned over to whisper in my ears.

I jerked awake... I must have been dozing again. "Me? No!" I chuckled sounding lame when I saw him amused expression "I had a heavy breakfast, maybe,".

"Well, I don’t know about others but those men are looking at me suspiciously. If you’re already dozing by this time of the day, their mind is running wild with ideas. Should they worry that their King doesn’t sleep enough because he’s trying to...".

"Noah!" I chuckled, my face turning red "Don’t be like that. What if someone can lip read what you’re saying?"

"What!" he arched his brows "I bet they’re jealous that their queen is getting laid every night and they’re not,".

My body shook as I tried to suppress the laughter emanating from inside me. The truth is, our marriage has been almost uneventful for a whole month and giving our track record, this was a major breakthrough. I spend most of my nights in Noah’s bedroom and we spend most of the afternoons with each other too.

There was this sync that seemed to be happening between us – like a magnetic pull and we couldn’t bear to stay one minute apart from each other. Noah was making me attend all his meetings and conferences. Today, we were part of the panel interviewing people we were considering for the vacant offices of the Pack Elders and Officials.

Grand Lycan Leonard, had tried all his best to lure me into recommending people for the position but like the smart ass I am, I have successfully avoided it more than once. Finally, he gave up and wrote a list two days ago.

All the candidates were bright, young, their parents have never held any office in the pack, and seemed so full of energy. Also, none of them lived in the pack. Of course, they were originally from this pack but after turning teens, most of them left to the human world to study, some others abroad and the rest, and in the words of the Grand Lycan

"They’re untainted and have zero knowledge of what is going on in this pack so it will be easy for them to become loyal to you,".

And he was right. Also, just like we predicted... the Grand Lycan played into our trap. 5 of the so-called men he selected were the people we planted randomly. Getting a father for them in Moon Whisper was piece of cake, so it was easy for the Grand Lycan to be deceived.

"Alright!" The Grand Lycan nodded towards the men standing in front of us "We’ve had all of your contributions and reach a conclusion and get back to all of you as soon as possible. You may now leave,".

The men bowed dutifully and filed out of the hall. As soon as we were alone, the Grand Lycan turned to us..."What do you think about them?"

"Tell, they’re all impressive," Noah started "A little rough at the edges but nothing training cannot fit. They all seemed very eager to work and I know I should probably not jinx it but I truly hope that they can effectively replace the pack elders and the pack officials,".

"Are we still going to argue about this, Noah?" The Grand Lycan rolled his eyes "We do not need old people because of their wisdom. The world is advanced today and many young people know so much about the world than old persons. We should give them a chance at least,".

"I don’t know Dad," he sighed "This may sound like the weirdest thing ever but we need people with experience and adequate knowledge about the pack to assist me not people who lived the better part of their prime in who knows where. You can’t even be sure that they’d be able to do as I will instruct.

"Noah!" The Grand Lycan shook his head "You’re yet to learn the ropes of leadership. These men we’re going to choose today are like empty canvas waiting for you to fill them. They’ll bend to your will, and do whatever you want them to do,".

"I do not want pleasers, father," Noah sighed "I want to be told that I did wrong and not applauded for when I do wrong,".

"The last set tried and guess where it landed them...in the prison," Nora chirped in suddenly making all of us to turn in her direction. "What?" she scoffed "I was just stating facts. I know how you reacted when complaints about your beloved wife," she curled her lips sarcastically "Was brought to your notice. You wanted to pull the pack down and stubbornly insisted that you will deal with her yourself,".

"That is so uncalled for, Nora," Noah hissed "Are you a killjoy? Must you always ruin peaceful moments with one of those your nonsense? Do you even have a conscience?"

"Yes!" Nora retorted "I have a working conscience that would not choose a woman whom I barely know over people who have been taking care of me all my life,".

"Nora!" The Grand Lycan tried to calm her.

But she shook her head several times "I’m tired of staying quiet dad, if no one would tell Noah then I will," she turned to Noah "You abandoned your family and choose her over us and now you want us to...".

"You know what!" I rose to my feet interrupting her "I’ve had it up to my neck with you too, Nora. Why are you such a pain in the ass. I know and I understand that you desire to be seen the way my husband sees me but I heard yours sleep around with everything in skirt,".

"And yours doesn’t?" she slammed with a hysterical laugh "You’re such a big fool, Selene. You left another man for cheating and ended up with the same cheating man. You’re such a big joke,".

"At least, I am in my husband’s pack, keeping him company and enjoying him to the maximum. Can we say the same to you? You spend the better part of time in Moon Whisper. Why? What are you scared off? That you husband would come home with some random women who is pregnant for him and you’ll have her killed just like how you’ve been doing for a while. You don’t want to be a step-mom?"

"How dare you!" she lashed out and rose to her feet. From the corner of my eyes, I could see both Noah and the Grand Lycan sitting frozen on their seats.

"How dare I?" I laughed dryly "But isn’t it true? You’re so bitter that’s why you’re cynical of me because you wish you can live my life. Yes, I left your son after suffering for 7 years. I had the boldness to walk out on him... how many years have you been married to a cheat all in the guise of he’s your mate?"

"Selene, please..." Noah tried to reach for my hand but I brushed him aside.

"Look at you!" I continued without pausing, my chest heaving with anger "With all your beauty and elegance, you cannot tell what is making you sad but you choose instead to bully me at the slightest opportunity. You made my life a living hell and for the longest of time, I will never forget it. I allowed you to bully me once but never again,".

"Selene..." Noah tried again but at this point, I had gone deaf.

"You pull any of those bullying stunts again, I promise I’ll meet you halfway and return the same energy. This isn’t a threat, it’s a warning. Since you want to go ahead and hate me, stop hiding behind your brother’s shadow on in the shadow of the pack, come out openly and do it without fear but I guess you cannot," I laughed "Because you’re a coward,".

"You think Noah will protect you forever?" she retorted with a smirk "Sooner or later, he would realize that he’s wasting his time on you and you’ll eat all your words,".

"But I’ll eat them with you beneath me or in the holding cell. Watch it now, Nora... I am now a Carrell and it means I can abuse power as much as I want. One of these days, if you push me too much, I might have you locked up without any reason so don’t push your luck,".

"Selene!!!" Noah’s voice reverberated through the hall, forcefully making me to turn towards him. His eyes were blazing with mild annoyance . "I told you to stop,".

"What of your sister?" I challenged "Why is she not stopping? Why haven’t you spoken to her like all the times I asked you to reach out and try to set the record straight? Your sister can get away with bad attitude and I cannot? I refuse to cower this time around for peace to reign. If any of you want peace then you should be the first person to initiate it,".

"It hasn’t gotten to that, babe. Please..." Noah pleaded.
