Chapter 210: If the people knew...

Narrator POV

Kragen scrambled from the bed, after his mother, his heart pounding hard with anger.

"Wait! You want to kill her?"

The moon goddess remained silent watching her offspring unable to say a word.

"This makes sense now, all these years that she has struggled and suffered, it was all you. Why? She’s the victim here, mother... why must she die?"

"She has been born over 500 times and according to the law of time and course of fate, she’s due to be reincarnated as someone else. We’re hoping that we would end the century-year-old curse with her death so that children born on the day of the dark moon fate would be able to live normal lives,".

"Is that what you’re calling it now? Normal life? Is killing someone who wants to live a long, peaceful and fruitful life normal? Besides how will her death change anything? Tell me... how exactly is her death going to appease the gods of fate and..." Kragen trailed off, as his gaze fell on his mother again.

Sighing, the moon goddess nodded. "It’s not a coincidence that she was pregnant with twins and honestly, we were going to use the children since they had the fate of the shadow moon. By their death, they will indirectly appeal for their mother, her fate would not change immediately but she eventually dies, she’ll come back a different person,".

"Is that why you made her get into that plane that day?" Kragen’s lips began to tremble as he stared at his mother "I messed everything up. If this was supposed to be the plan, I messed it all up,".

"Yes, you did!" the moon goddess nodded "Now, we cannot use the girls because by reversing their death, you’ve automatically granted them a second chance and here in the mythical world we don’t joke with a second chance. So, their mother, Selene will have to go,".

"Why?" Kragen pursued "If anyone should die then it should be Xavier. According to the story, Gaia’s daughter Dimitra jumped into the burning cauldron as she was trying to save her children and Alpha’s son Damien followed suit. So, it was the Alpha Kiba’s family that pushed her into taking her own life and Selene comes from a pure lineage of the first Alpha – Alpha Kiba was her grandfather,".

"But she bore two children and she’s the one being maltreated. How about Xavier, from whose lineage does he come from and yet he’s been spared? Don’t tell me he’s Gaia’s offspring in a way. If anything, he’s supposed to die with Selene, so both of them can entirely put an end to the dark fate,".

"That’s not how things work here, Fenrir," the moon goddess sighed "And there are a lot of things that you do not need to know but I’ll tell you one thing, moving forward, can you try not to interfere with Selene’s fate anymore? Not only does it keep changing and getting worse in a way..., but she’s destined to meet a terrible end. It’s a giving. There’s nothing you can do or say that will make it not to happen,".

"Then I’ll keep interfering so she lives longer," Kragen said with a bitter smile "You cannot kill the mother no matter what. Those girls need her more than they need everyone. Taking their mother away from them would spoil a lot of things for those innocent souls. They’ll be left in the care of their irresponsible father...".

"It’s not in our place to interfere, Fenrir. There’s only so much we can do, the rest we have to leave it up to them to figure it out themselves. The girls would be fine, we may seem cruel sometimes but things cannot go as we all want. So, please... can you hand off this time around? I’ve been able to put off your punishment for so long if anything goes wrong this time around, I am not sure...".

A small smile crept onto Kragen’s lips as he stared at his mother "You’ll just have to keep doing that mother, you just have to keep making excuses or whatever the hell it is that you do and for the longest time because I won’t stop. I’ll find a way to help Selene...".

"Why? Is it because you want her? Fenrir dozens of girls in Ethereal heaven will not hesitate to be with you... why must you be with one of our creatures?"

"Because she’s my friend, mom..." Kragen said quietly "And friends depend on each other. I will not let her down now that she needs me so much. It doesn’t matter what you or anyone would say and...".

The door of the bedroom swung open, as another gust of eerie wind came with it. A figure loomed at the doorway, silent and daunting... Kragen’s eyes widened with fear, the moon goddess sighed with relief as they stared at the figure. Only one person could make Kragen do anything, and that was ... his father.

Kragen’s gaze shifted with accusation to the moon goddess who avoided him and walked briskly to the door, a pleasant smile on her lips.

"Thank you for coming," she said quietly accepting the stiff kiss Henry, Kragen’s father placed on her cheeks before he looked past her to where their son was standing looking like he had just seen a ghost.

"Fenrir," Henry said without emotion "How are you doing, son?"

Kragen ignored his pleasantry, as his gaze flitted to his mother "What is going on? Why did you bring him here? He shouldn’t be here... you promised that he would never come here or interfere with my life. What the fuck is he doing here then? Why!"

"He’s the only person that gets you to do anything, Fenrir," the moon goddess sighed "I knew I made a promise but I will not sit back and watch you destroy yourself at my watch. The path you’re heading is not pleasant. Don’t worry, he’ll only be here to guide you and make sure things work,".

"So things were not working?" Kragen fired back "I’ve been running this whole place for a century, far better than he’ll ever do and you have the guts to bring him back here? I am not 6 years old anymore. I’m old enough to make decisions for myself and I am the god of this place. So, I demand you leave!"

"Letting them live for longer than they should, your work table overflowing with unanswered work and you running around, pinning over a woman who will never be yours. This isn’t what I instilled in you, boy," Henry said stiffy, his hands folded behind his back "I am disappointed that you’ve forgotten everything I instilled in you. But not to worry, we’ll fix that up as soon as possible,".

"You’ll fix nothing," Kragen drew himself to his full height, piercing his father with a hard stare. I am in charge here and I determine who comes and go. You’re not needed here anymore... and certainly not welcomed here until I say so. So, leave right now,".

"Be courteous to your father, Fenrir!" the moon goddess said with shock written all over your face, you cannot tell him to leave... it’s nearly midnight and...".

"I don’t care!" Kragen said "Midnight, morning, night... I don’t care. Next time, I should be informed of your arrival in due time and as for today, just leave before I’ll be forced to remove you myself,".

"You cannot do that!" the moon goddess shouted.

"Yes, I can!" Kragen roared, his eyes flaming up as he turned to his father "Leave before things get out of hand!"

"Kragen you can’t....".

"It’s fine!" his father placed a hand on the arm of the moon goddess, a morose expression on his face "I’ll leave. He’s the authority here, after all,".

Without saying another word, he turned and started for the door. The moon goddess ran after him. Shaking from fright and unable to believe that he could stand up to his father, Kragen fell on the bed.

Outside of the room, the moon goddess caught up with Henry who was already at the entrance of Kragen’s abode. "Please wait!" she held him back "If you leave, things will get out of hand. Everyone is already sensing that there’s something more between me and him and this last straw... I don’t think the outcome will be good. He’s only a baby, Henry... he’ll be punished by the Fates and you know how they are with punishment,".

"Maybe that will make him realize what a fool he is," Henry scoffed "He’s always been like this and maybe worse because you always indulge him. Perhaps if you let him be punished for always breaking the rule, he might change,".

"I am trying to be his best friend, Henry," she sighed "We don’t have a mother-son relationship and I can only hope that it’ll happen but still, I want us to just be good to each other. He’s our son... and I love him,".

"Oh!" Henry sighed and reached for both of her hands "How long will you beat yourself up for not being there? I was more than okay to look after him from infancy until now. You had a lot of responsibilities and if the people knew..." Henry shook his head "That would have been a problem!"
