That Time My Anime Life Got Cursed by Outer Gods-Chapter 25 - 24: Shadows of Destruction
Chapter 25 - 24: Shadows of Destruction
Tomoya Aki's kagune collided with the shadow shield with immense force, but it didn't even leave a mark. A muffled thud was the only sound that followed.
The attack did, however, cause Tomoya Aki an unexpected pain. He glanced at his kagune, noticing that parts of it had been severed, as if something had bitten it off. His heart filled with rage. Why did he have such power? This kind of strength should be his alone, as the protagonist of his own story.
'I'll kill him here,' he thought. 'No one can take what's rightfully mine.'
His killing intent grew stronger, and with a surge of fury, the kagune's attacks grew even fiercer, slashing through the air relentlessly.
Shiro Sakamaki, however, was calm. He kept his arms around Megumi Kato, guiding her away from the strikes. It may have looked thrilling from the outside, but he dodged every attack with effortless precision. He could have finished this fight in an instant, but he was curious to see how far Tomoya Aki's transformation would go.
Despite Tomoya Aki's newfound power, it was clear that he was no match for Shiro. His attacks, though fast, were sluggish compared to Shiro's speed. It was like watching a slow-motion movie. Tomoya Aki's strength may have been impressive to ordinary people, but in Shiro's eyes, it was like watching a turtle move through thick mud.
Shiro didn't intend to kill him immediately. Instead, he dodged and countered with controlled force, testing his opponent. His shadows—enhanced by his unique abilities—provided the perfect balance of offense and defense. His Rashomon ability gave him sharpness and strength, while his arrogant shadow powers allowed for quick, relentless attacks that covered speed and range.
As the fight dragged on, Tomoya Aki's body began to show signs of wear. Blood pooled beneath him as he staggered, his wounds unable to heal fast enough. Despite the resilience of his mew form, he hadn't eaten since his transformation and was in a state of malnutrition. His self-healing powers couldn't keep up with the damage anymore.
Megumi Kato, unable to follow the details of the battle, knew only that it was intense. She could hear the destruction around them—the crashing of walls, the shattering of glass—and it only confirmed how fierce the conflict was. She had no idea how Shiro was evading the attacks so flawlessly, but she could tell he was protecting her, staying aware of her safety even as the battle raged.
Shiro, getting bored of the prolonged skirmish, decided it was time to end it.
With a focused gaze, Shiro's eyes flickered as he concentrated. The shadows behind him multiplied into dozens of sharp spears that shot toward Tomoya Aki from every direction. A monstrous face appeared among the shadows, grinning wickedly.
"Monster!" Tomoya Aki gasped, his eyes widening in terror.
"Rashomon Shadow Spears!" Shiro called out.
The spears erupted, tearing through the air and completely surrounding Tomoya Aki. The ghoul's tough skin was no match for the shadow spears, which easily pierced through it. His body hung suspended in mid-air, the spears holding him in place.

Blood poured from the countless wounds, staining the ground beneath him.
"Little Kato, close your eyes and don't look," Shiro warned gently, his voice filled with an unusual calmness.
Megumi Kato, trusting Shiro's words, obediently shut her eyes, unsure of what was happening but willing to listen. She knew the fight was over when she heard nothing more.
Shiro, eyes focused, turned his attention back to his prey. "Bloom."
The shadow spears exploded in a burst of force, splintering into thousands of smaller spears. They scattered out from all directions, shredding Tomoya Aki's body. His blood sprayed across the area, painting the walls in crimson, like a horrific, deadly flower in bloom.
Shiro made sure to target his brain directly, ensuring that even the Ghoul's powerful healing ability wouldn't be able to save him. The brain was obliterated by the shadows, rendering Tomoya Aki's body lifeless.
Once the shadows receded, Tomoya Aki's body dropped to the ground like a ragdoll, lifeless and limp. The air grew still. His presence had vanished.
Shiro turned to Megumi Kato. "You can open your eyes now."
When she did, her gaze was confused, but she didn't ask questions. She trusted Shiro and was eager to leave the scene.
"I know you must have a lot of questions," Shiro said as he glanced at her, "but it's late. Let's talk tomorrow. Just don't tell anyone about tonight. If anyone from the Supernatural Administration comes after you, let me know immediately. I'll be there."
Megumi Kato nodded, reassured. "I won't tell anyone, I promise. This will be our secret."
Shiro's gaze softened at her words. "Good. Now go home. It's late."
He handed her the dress she had picked out earlier, and though Megumi Kato protested, she accepted it reluctantly. "Thank you, Shiro Sakamaki-kun."
Shiro watched her as she walked towards her home. The moment she entered the building, he turned and walked away, his shadow trailing behind him like a quiet specter.

Back at her home, Megumi Kato stepped inside and called out to her mother, "I'm home."
Her mother, who was cleaning, looked up with a smile. "Megumi-chan, what's the deal with that boy you were with today?"
Megumi Kato froze for a moment, unsure how to respond. She quickly slipped off her shoes and socks and said, "He's just a friend I met by chance. Nothing special."
Her mother, smiling knowingly, teased, "I see. It's clear you're getting older and starting to have your own secrets. But when you get a boyfriend, make sure to bring him home."
Megumi Kato sighed, a little exasperated. "Mom, we're not even dating. He's just a friend."
Her mother raised an eyebrow. "Well, I still think he's a good match. You should hurry and go for it."
Megumi Kato groaned inwardly. "I'm going to take a shower, Mom. We'll talk later."
