Chapter 27 - 26: A Visit to the Sawamura Household

After a leisurely coffee break, Shiro Sakamaki followed Megumi Kato as they explored Akihabara. The area, a mecca for ACGN enthusiasts, instantly brought to mind images of anime, manga, and gaming culture. Though it was filled with game cafes and manga teahouses, it was also a hub for the latest digital gadgets, often showcasing new products as benchmarks in the tech world.

Despite the bustling atmosphere, neither Shiro nor Megumi were particularly interested in buying anything. Shiro had long outgrown the phase of collecting figurines, and his preferences had shifted toward more... tangible experiences. Megumi, on the other hand, seemed indifferent to the offerings, and after lunch, they parted ways as Shiro had promised to visit Sawamura's house later in the day.

On their way, Shiro stopped by a confectionery shop and picked up two boxes of traditional Japanese sweets as a gesture of goodwill. It was his first time visiting, and it wouldn't do to arrive empty-handed.

Sawamura Family Residence

Nestled in Setagaya Ward, one of Tokyo's wealthiest districts, the Sawamura family residence was surrounded by lush greenery and luxurious single-family villas. The area was known for its serenity and exclusivity, home to many high-profile entrepreneurs, celebrities, and cultural figures. The peaceful surroundings contrasted sharply with the chaotic energy of the city.

When Shiro arrived at the gated villa area, the doorman initially stopped him, unsure of his identity. It wasn't until Shiro called Sayuri Sawamura that he was allowed in.

"Eriri-chan, Shiro-kun is here, come down," Sayuri called out.

Despite the afternoon sun, Eriri Spencer was still asleep, having stayed up late working on her manuscript. The abrupt wake-up call startled her, and as she groggily checked her reflection, she cursed under her breath. Her hair was a mess, and her usual polished look had completely slipped away.

Before she could make herself presentable, Shiro had already arrived at the door. Before he could ring the bell, Sayuri greeted him with a warm smile.

"Good afternoon, Shiro-kun. Don't just stand there—come in!" she said

Shiro handed over the souvenir with a polite smile. "Sister Sayuri, good afternoon. I hope I'm not disturbing you."

Sayuri, clearly pleased with his respectful tone, invited him inside and instructed the servant to bring tea. "Eriri will be down in a moment. Please make yourself comfortable while I fetch some pastries."

A few minutes later, Eriri Spencer descended the stairs in a school uniform. She had settled on her standard outfit but had not bothered to fix her hair, which was still a frizzy mess. Shiro couldn't help but laugh at the sight, and with a teasing smile, he stepped forward to smooth her hair.

"Wait! What are you doing?!" Eriri yelped, taking a couple of steps back in panic, her cheeks flushing crimson.

Shiro, unable to contain his amusement, pointed to the mess of hair. "You might want to fix this," he said with a grin.

Eriri scowled. "It's all your fault! You should have given me a heads-up about your visit. Now look at me!" She pouted, frustrated at being caught off guard.

Shiro chuckled, recognizing the familiar tantrum. "I didn't delay my visit. I came as soon as I could," he replied, brushing off her complaints.

Eriri's sharp gaze narrowed as she crossed her arms. "Hmm, I see how it is. You've been spending time with Nino, haven't you? And what's this about a Kato from our school?"

Shiro was momentarily stunned. How did she know so much? He had only been in Tokyo for a week, and yet it seemed like Eriri had already pieced together his interactions.

"Well," he began, trying to deflect, "I met the Nakano sisters by chance at school. It's nothing out of the ordinary. And as for little Kato, it's just a coincidence—she's involved with a classmate named Tomoya Aki."

Eriri's eyes lit up at the mention of Tomoya Aki. "Tomoya Aki? What does he have to do with you?"

Shiro feigned surprise, though inside, he was curious about her reaction. "You know him?" he asked, trying to keep his tone casual.

Eriri nodded. "We were housemates for a while, but we had a falling out." She spoke with surprising indifference, her tone cool and detached.

Shiro raised an eyebrow. "A falling out? That's interesting. Tomoya Aki had an accident recently. His bicycle brake failed, and he's in the hospital now. Did you know about it?"

To his surprise, Eriri showed no particular shock at the news. She simply shrugged and waved a hand dismissively. "I heard. I didn't think much of it."

Shiro felt a small knot form in his stomach. Why was she so calm about this? In the original scenario, Eriri's relationship with Tomoya had been far more complex, but now it seemed as if the butterfly effect of his arrival had altered things significantly.

"Well," Shiro said, still processing, "if you're not too concerned, I suppose I'll leave it at that."

Eriri's eyes glinted with an unreadable emotion as she smirked. "Don't mention him again. And yes, I've already applied for Line." Her casual attitude made it hard for Shiro to gauge her true feelings about Tomoya, but it was clear that things had changed in ways he didn't fully understand.
