That Time My Anime Life Got Cursed by Outer Gods-Chapter 50 - 49: Space-Cutting Ability
Chapter 50 - 49: Space-Cutting Ability
After a long while, Nakano Nino finally came to her senses. By now, Shiro Sakamaki had already brought her outside. The cool night air diluted the thick stench of blood clinging to her clothes, allowing her to breathe more easily.
But when she looked at Shiro Sakamaki standing beside her, she instinctively took two steps back.
The scene she had just witnessed was too overwhelming. She had seen with her own eyes how a spear of shadow, split from Shiro's own silhouette, impaled her classmates mid-air. And now, even in the moonlight, his shadow seemed to grin menacingly at her, like a twisted face hiding beneath the surface.
Shiro noticed her reaction and sighed inwardly. He hadn't expected Nino to be there when he attacked—by then, his move had already been set in motion.
"It's not what you think," he said gently. "Those weren't ordinary humans."
He took a moment to organize his thoughts, then began to explain. But it was clear from the look in Nino's eyes—wide, fixed, and trembling—that his words weren't getting through.
She couldn't reconcile the person who played with her and her sisters daily with the cold killer who had just ended dozens of lives without blinking.
Eventually, after dragging Itori into the explanation and revealing her Kagune, Nino began to understand. Slowly, she accepted Shiro's words.
"So... Shiratori brought me there tonight because..." As she recalled Shiratori's strange behavior earlier, her eyes widened.
"She was probably planning to make you her meal," Shiro said bluntly. "If I hadn't shown up, you'd be dead."
There were ghouls willing to coexist peacefully with humans—but they were rare. More often than not, once overcome by hunger, even a ghoul's closest friend wasn't safe. That was the true terror of their species.
As the weight of the truth sank in, Nino's legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed. Shiro caught her just in time, gently holding her up.
After a moment, Nino regained her footing, face flushed with embarrassment. Her voice was quiet.
"It's late, and we have class tomorrow... I'll walk you home," Shiro offered.
"Wait... before that, can you show me what you did back there? That shadow thing?"
Shiro nodded. "Sure."
He scanned the area and spotted several discarded metal trash cans nearby. Wanting her to see clearly, he deliberately slowed down his technique. His shadow stretched and morphed—its soft curves suddenly turning rigid and straight.
Nino saw a flash of black. The next moment, the trash cans were sliced clean in half.
She rushed over and gasped. The cuts were smooth, like they'd been done with a high-grade industrial laser.
Rashomon's ability could even slice through space itself. Combined with his shadow's expanded range, it became a terrifying weapon—swift, wide-reaching, and nearly impossible to block.
Nino's eyes shimmered with admiration—but the look vanished as quickly as it appeared. She already knew from Shiro that such abilities were usually innate, and awakening them later in life was exceedingly rare.
Still, after hearing everything, her fear of Shiro began to fade. Instead, she now felt a strange sense of safety when he was near.
On the way home, Nino's phone buzzed. It was Ichika, her older sister, wondering why she was still out so late. Nino fibbed that she was with a classmate working on schoolwork.
Shiro also learned something else—Nino's "classmate," the one who lured her to the bar, was from the Tsukiyama family.
That explained how she was able to attend Shuchiin Academy as a ghoul.
The Tsukiyama family was a prominent ghoul clan, deeply embedded in human society. With their Tsukiyama Group owning over twenty subsidiaries across various industries, they wielded considerable power and influence.
Still, Shiro wasn't worried. He figured once the Tsukiyamas looked into what happened, they wouldn't bother retaliating over a minor member.
Suddenly, he felt a tug at his sleeve.
He turned and saw Nino looking up at him, her face slightly flushed.
"I'm... kind of hungry. Can we stop and eat something?"
She hadn't eaten since earlier, and after all the vomiting and chaos, hunger finally caught up to her.
"Alright, let's find a place."
He looked around and spotted a sign just ahead—an izakaya tucked into a quiet alley.
"There's a place up there. Let's check it out."
Nino nodded quickly. At this point, anything edible would do.
The izakaya was small and old-fashioned, nestled away like a secret known only to locals. Though it was late, the warm light spilling through the doorway hinted at a cozy welcome.
A delicious aroma wafted from inside, stirring their appetite.
When they stepped in, the place was empty save for the owner, a man sitting alone at the bar, quietly smoking.
Upon seeing customers, he quickly stubbed out his cigarette and stood up.
"Welcome. What would you like?"
The interior was quaint—an old clock ticked softly on the wall, and hand-written specials hung beside a chalkboard menu.
Nino glanced around. "Boss, is pork soup the only thing on the menu?"
"You can order whatever you want," he smiled. "If I can make it, I'll make it."

"Really? Do you have pasta?"
"Only tomato-flavored," he replied.
"That's fine. Please make that." She turned to Shiro. "Shiro-kun, what about you?"
Shiro smiled. For someone who had just witnessed such a gruesome scene, Nino's appetite was impressive.
"I'll have fried chicken. And a beer."
The owner didn't question the beer—Shiro's demeanor didn't exactly scream 'student,' and the man had seen stranger things in his time.
"Alright. One tomato pasta, one fried chicken, and a beer. Coming right up."
While they waited, the front door opened again.
The owner glanced over, recognized the newcomer, and greeted him with a nod.
"Same as usual?"
The guest gave a slight nod and quietly took a seat in the corner.
