The Ace Sniper Wife-Chapter 269: Episode 034 Fear of Fighting Against Groups (6)
She didn’t have the boldness of Flossie Wright!
...
Familiar with the terrain and having tilled the soil for two days, Yvonne Watson led the way. Perhaps truly afraid of Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes, she walked much faster than usual, quickly covering a good distance. Luckily, both Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes were quick, maintaining a deliberate distance while ensuring they could keep up.
Soon, they reached the patches of land managed by the cooking class. A wide expanse teemed with fresh vegetables, vacant plots are reserved for the next sowing season, almost all weeds eradicated. One plot was half-turned, the rest of the work to be completed before dinner.
"Both of these sections are your responsibility."
Honestly pointing out the allocated plots, Yvonne Watson didn’t say much more before starting on her own assigned section.
After making comparisons, however,Becca Reyes realized Yvonne Watson’s remaining sections amount to less than a fourth of what each of them was allotted. In other words, her and Flossie Wright’s mission was twice what Yvonne Watson’s was.
Becca Reyes was already irked. But before she could air her qualms, Flossie Wright’s hoe blocked her path. With a terse explanation "Neal Thompson’s idea", she guesed, but it was highly probable.
"Why?" Becca Reyes angrily pushed the hoe aside.
"Great allowance is to be made to a good servant."
Shrugging, Flossie Wright seemed nonchalant. After observing Yvonne Watson’s movements for a while, she got to work on her plot.
"Huh!"
Becca Reyes took a breath—since when had Flossie Wright been so amusingly pragmatic?
Meritocracy?
How gracious with such grandiose reasoning...
Since Flossie Wright raised no objections, it meant she had accepted the task. To her, it might even hold some significance.
Though Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes were both physically weaker, their regimented military training—and Nathan Foster’s recent intense sessions—were higher than Yvonne Watson’s endurance. So, in this labour-intensive task they took the lead. Even when they finished their two plots, Yvonne was still toiling over a small patch—seemingly struggling to raise her hoe.
"Could you guys give me a hand?"
As dinner time loomed, Yvonne Watson grew increasingly anxious. Watching Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes effortlessly complete their tasks nearly brought her to tears. The more flustered she was, the slower she felt. Her delicate hands were abraded raw, even bearing scratch marks.
So she was left with no choice but to turn to Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes for help.
Having finished their work, Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes lounged on the ridge. Back to back, they enjoyed the refreshing winter breeze, which felt especially soothing after their sweaty work-out.
Of course, they turned a deaf ear to Yvonne Watson’s plea for help.
The plot Yvonne was responsible for was half the size of theirs yet took her doubly as long. The situation was inherently unfair. They might have accepted their lot, but it didn’t mean they would sympathise with Yvonne’s plight and help.
"Could you guys give me a hand?" Yvonne Watson asked again, her lip trembling, eyes watering, pleading pitifully, "We’ll have to finish the mission before we go."
She really had the nerve!
