The Alpha's Omega Mate-Chapter 147: Can I kiss you?

~Dahlia’s POV~

I do not know for how long I stood there digesting everything I’d just heard, but by the time I finally gathered myself enough to move, to return to Howllowfang pack, it was already way into the morning.

The sun had begun its slow ascent into the sky, illuminating the clouds with a soft golden hue. Even the patrol officers of Shadowfang pack had even begun their morning routine check, and so for this, I held my shield around myself like a cloak and dragged myself the rest of the way.

However, the first thing I noticed as soon as I stepped into Howllowfang’s pack house was Alpha Kai who was standing by the door with a look of pure fury on his face and his hands clasped behind his back.

When he saw me approaching, he let out a visible sigh of relief, but only for the briefest second as soon he was back to frowning so hard, I feared that his face would crack.

"What is it?" I drawled as I brushed past him into the house, but as soon as our skins connected, a tinge of electricity sparked between us. It elicited a breathy moan from my lips, and as usual, I stumbled away from him, my eyes widening as I looked up at his rage filled ones.

"What is what?" Alpha Kai snapped, looking the least affected by whatever had happened between us moments ago. His eyes raked my body intensely, and with his lower lips curled back into a snarl, he growled; "where have you been?"

I frowned, stepping back to look up at him as I crossed my arms over my chest. "I went for a walk. Is there a problem with that?"

My response probably didn’t sit right with Alpha Kai because then he growled. His red eyes flashed in an ethereal manner, and just when I had begun to think that his beast was very close to the surface, ready to eat me whole, he sighed dramatically and squeezed his shut.

When he opened his eyes moments later, I was surprised to see that most of the conflict present only seconds ago in those orbs had dissipated. And in its place was worry... pure unadulterated worry.

He rasped; "I was worried."

"But I can go for walks. You told me I could."

"But you should’ve told me before going!" He snapped loudly, causing the veins by the sides of his neck to pop out so much it could literally pass as a tapeworm.

Maybe it was the pressure after everything that’s happened or maybe I was just being unnecessarily paranoid, but something about his words made me irritated. It made me see red. I snatched my hands out of his and took a large step away from him, my eyes thinning into fierce slits as I snarled;

"Am I a child?!"

"Huh?"

"Do I have to take permission from you before leaving now?" I continued, ignoring the way my voice rose with each passing second.

His eyes widened in shock while he regarded me, but instead of calming down, that look in his eyes only managed to rile me up even more. I seethed; "I only went for a walk... a walk! Why are you acting like I betrayed you or something?"

"But I didn’t!" Alpha Kai snapped back, his tone confused. "I was only worried. I thought you had been taken. I thought you’d left—"

"With my child sleeping soundly in your pack." I finished, hissing when he rubbed his face in annoyance.

"Dahlia, you’re blowing this out of proportion." He reasoned, now dropping his voice into a whisper. "I wasn’t even mad. I wasn’t about to berate you either. I was only worried."

Something about those words, so lightly spoken, managed to turn off some of the storm raging inside of me. I sighed in resignation and looked away from him to hide some of the angry tears now welling in my eyes.

Alpha Kai probably noticed this too because then he clasped both of his hands on my face, forcing me to look up at him and I almost gasped at the warmth I found swirling in those beautiful beautiful red gleaming eyes.

Some of the dead butterflies in my stomach fluttered awake and I bit down on my lower lip, desperately hoping that the pain would take my wandering mind off the wanton thoughts flying through it.

He whispered; "Did something happen?"

And oh gods, oh only gods, that soft sound felt like a caress!

I squeezed my eyes shut. "No." I lied through gritted teeth. "Nothing happened; I just managed to pull myself into an overthinking spree, even though I knew I shouldn’t."

At that, Alpha Kai’s gaze softened. He trailed his fingers deftly along the skin of my cheek, lighting my body ablaze with his caresses as he muttered; "Maybe I understand... maybe I do, but just know I’ll always be here for you... that I’ll always support you, even when you don’t want me to."

My heart melted.

"Alpha Kai..."

As soon as the words left my lips, I regretted them because his face fell instantly. He scrunched up his nose, his hands leaving my face— taking his warmth with him— as he said;

"Do I have to send a burnt offering your way before you learn to call me Kai?"

I barked out a laugh.

"How many times do I have to remind you that you’re not one of my subjects? To me, we’re equal and I do not like when you don’t treat me as one."

I smiled at him then, but just when I was about to open my mouth to speak, to argue with him, he placed his index finger over my lips and whispered;

"Shhh."

And like an obedient pet, I did as told, ignoring the way my body tingled with anticipation. And ignoring the way my wolf purred in delight.

Alpha Kai tilted his head to the side, his intense gaze lingering a minute too long on my face... on my lips. I squirmed uncomfortably under his penetrating glare just as my lady bits trembled.

I whispered; "I just realized that I didn’t greet you earlier. Good morn—"

"Can I kiss you?" He asked suddenly, interrupting me, and causing me to snap my lips shut in shock.

I looked up at him in both confusion and longing, and while most of my senses screamed at me to not allow this... to not allow him, my body responded differently.

It hummed with barely contained excitement and my pussy clenched and unclenched several times as if seeking its own release— since I, the owner, has decided to be celibate.

"Dahlia please..." his voice came again, pleading. Soft. Seducing. "I’ve wanted to do it for a long time, but I cannot if you don’t let me. I want you. I want to experience what your lips against mine feels like. I want to—"

"Yes." I answered quickly, squeezing my eyes shut and squirming even more then he froze.

And like a raging bull he pulled me into his chest. I vaguely saw the smile on his face... vaguely heard him murmur something along the lines of; "you’re so beautiful," under his breath, before he crashed his lips against mine in a crushing kiss.

—And stole my breath away in the process too.
