Chapter 158: I’d be honoured.

~Dahlia’s POV~

By the time the sound of the first crow split through the silence of dawn, I was already awake, grumpy, tired and far too cranky because I hadn’t had a restful night.

My thoughts all through last night had been plagued with flashes of Elodie and as I tossed and turned in bed, I couldn’t help but wonder if she was fine... if she’s safe. If she had gotten into trouble...

Or not.

And to top it all, strange nightmares plagued my sleep like a swarm of bees to royalty.

I shuddered when images of of these said nightmares fleeted past my mind, and deciding that I ought to shake it off before it succeeds in rattling me more than it already had, I changed into a simple free baby blue blouse and large matching pants, and then tiptoed out of the room— so that I couldn’t accidentally wake my daughter up.

I then made my way through the house to the kitchen, said a quick hello to the maid whisking up breakfast, drank some water and then slipped through the back door to the training field beyond.

I wanted to be alone... needed to be alone to figure out the thoughts plaguing my mind so restlessly. I needed to sort myself out before facing Alpha Kai and his sister today, and must of all, I needed to have myself fixed before my daughter wakes—

Oh shit.

I was soon snapped out of these many thoughts as soon as I stepped outside because I was then hit with the overpowering scent of my mate.

My eyes darted around the airy space in urgency, and when I saw Kai standing to the side, sending fierce punches into the side of a padded tree, I froze.

I didn’t want to see him now... couldn’t bring myself to—

’Then why’s your face heating up at the sight of his shirtless self?" My wolf asked suddenly in my head and I balked because for several days now, I hadn’t heard from her. Not a word. Not a thought. No nothing.

And yet, she was rearing her ugly head at the sight of a half naked male.

’Whore!’ I spat back, ignoring her words but she was just about to speak again when a loud crunching sound filled the air; And I gasped in shock when I noticed that the tree that Alpha Kai was punching at now had a large dent.

’He’d done that... our mate is so strong!’ My wolf whined within me and I shrugged derisively before storming away from her, heaving a sigh of relief when I noticed that he was unscathed.

But my relief was shortlived. It didn’t last long as soon I was plagued with the eerie thought that he still wasn’t doing anything to look for his sister.

That he didn’t care.

That he’d let her go.

With anger sizzling just beneath my skin, I marched up to him to stand between him and the padded tree.

—And Hades, that was stupid of me!

I know I could be stupid sometimes but that was the stupidest I’ve ever been.

And I say this because Alpha Kai had been so deep into his one sided sparring that he didn’t realize when I stepped in front of him, and he had almost punched me square in the face, his hand hovering closely over my nose, when he paused, his anger evident in his eyes.

"That was stupid." He drawled, sounding angry.

"I know."

"I could’ve hurt you... badly. And that wouldn’t be funny." He snapped again, but I rolled my eyes, fixating on his forehead to stop my eyes from wandering off to other parts of his body, and ensuring that my dirty mind doesn’t have something to talk about— or think about as the case may be.

I was however snapped out of my trance when he tucked a stray hair behind my ear, the action sending a jolt of electricity running down my neck, and then he asked;

"What are you doing here?"

Despite how tenderly he looked at me, his voice still held a tinge of sharpness. It still held a coldness that made my heart flutter.

I dropped my head for a nanosecond before answering; "I was looking for you."

You missed me?" He asked sultrily, wiggling his full eyebrows suggestively at me. "Because I did too." He added and as soon as I heard those words, my face coloured brightly.

I slapped his arm playfully, my cheeks stinging. "No, I wanted to talk to you!"

"What about?" He asked, still smiling.

And by the gods, I stopped and stared. My eyes lingered on his grin a moment too long as if storing the image somewhere in my memory as I feared it would wipe off his face soon.

I then managed to shake myself out of my self induced haze and whispered; "About Elodie."

As soon as I mentioned her name, his face fell. All traces of playfulness disappeared into thin air, leaving behind an eerie iciness that chilled me without contact.

His red eyes latched on my face, and as if he’d seen something he hated, he scowled. "I do not want to talk about her."

"But she’s probably at Shadowfang pack now?! And I know that the people of that pack aren’t exactly friendly!"

"She will be fine."

"Aren’t you worried?" I snapped now, my rage getting the best of me.

He snorted before turning away. "I am," he drawled, his voice sounding distant. "In fact, I am very worried, but I won’t stand here and listen to you talk about her." He seethed and with that, stormed away from me to start attacking another padded tree a few feet away.

I watched him throw punches at the tree, all the while ignoring me like I wasn’t even in the same space as him, and even though I found that quite hurtful, I didn’t comment on it. I didn’t even let his old-man tantrum deter me as I stormed over to him again.

"She has a daughter!" I snarled, and maybe it was the sound of my voice, or maybe it was the way my wolf had growled, adding an undertone of rawness to the way I sounded, but he stopped and turned to me, his eyes curious. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"You have a daughter too."

"Yes, and that’s exactly why I understand her." I continued, ignoring the murder intent in his eyes.

There’s no way he could kill me! And even if he must, he should after I’ve seen all of him... touched... tasted all of him.

My goodness... I’m such a whore!

"I don’t know what you mean, Dahlia..." he trailed off and I couldn’t help but notice the way his eyes roved my body sensuously as he spoke. Even his eyes... damn those eyes... settled on my lips a moment too long, and I instinctively knew that it wasn’t just me suffering these weird several tendencies.

It’s not just me wanting to jump the other’s bones.

I gulped. "I’ll explain." I drawled flirtatiously, "but first, I want you to spar with me. We can talk while we fight."

Truth is, I didn’t want to fight with him. Hell, I don’t want to fight at all, but I figured that channeling all these pent up sexual tension into something more decent was better.

’Or maybe it’s just you wanting to lay your hands on him.’ My wolf countered and I rolled my eyes.

My breath hitched when I noticed Kai watching me carefully, his gaze dark... hungry. He darted out his tongue to wet his dry lips as his eyes trailed down my body, and when they returned to my face, he smirked— the kind that soaks your panties without trying— and drawled;

"I’d be honoured, your Grace."

"I would need to cut off your tongue first!"
