The Ancient Gods' Whisper-Chapter 924 - 432: Prologue_2
"Is that so?"
Su Youxia glanced at his pale face in the rearview mirror.
For the past two months, he hadn’t really rested, and it took a long time just to heal the injuries. Theoretically, this shouldn’t be the case. The wounds healing so slowly can only be said to be a mental issue.
"I know the President is an important person to you, but I heard something once that I found very reasonable. The best filial piety in this world is making sure you live well. Can you understand that? You need to take care of yourself so that you don’t let her efforts go to waste. To be honest, I’m quite surprised. I’ve been by her side for many years, and I could never imagine her being so partial to anyone. Even I am a bit jealous."
Su Youxia smiled silently, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes: "Do you know? I met her while I was on a mission in the Dark World. At that time, my goal was to kill a traitor who had betrayed the You Ying Group. I chased him all the way from Tokyo to Kagoshima and caught him at a satellite launch site."
"But I didn’t expect that he would take his two-year-old daughter with him while escaping. I was very angry and questioned him on why he would betray the You Ying Group, bringing disaster to him and his family. He just told me that there are things in the world more important than life. He didn’t regret it, only hoping I would spare his daughter."
She lit a cigarette and reminisced: "I was fifteen that year, and I couldn’t bring myself to shoot a child. I decided to let them go. But I didn’t know, someone was watching behind me."
Gu Jianlin listened quietly to her story, saying nothing.
"When I lowered my gun, a handgun was already against my back."
Su Youxia smiled: "I thought I was done for, but someone suddenly appeared and crushed that gun."
Gu Jianlin made a sound of acknowledgment: "That person was the President, she came for her subordinate."
Su Youxia responded with a hum.
"No wonder you became a Shadow."
Gu Jianlin gently asked: "And how did others become Shadows?"
Su Youxia smiled and said: "You’ll have to find that out yourself. If they are willing to tell you their story, it means they recognize you as a companion and are willing to entrust their lives to you."
"I understand."
Gu Jianlin picked up the walkie-talkie and quietly said: "Begin. This time the target is to retrieve No.5. We need to gather all our forces in the shortest time possible and then provoke a war against them."
Two equally cold voices came through the phone.
"Roger."
It was the response of Moon Princess and Thunder.
Gu Jianlin put away the walkie-talkie, softly said: "Let’s go."
The black Mercedes charged into the vast snow, merging into the traffic on the street.
All kinds of passersby were left behind, snowflakes engulfing their silhouettes.
Moon Princess looked at the departing car, lifted the Heavenly Cluster Cloud Sword, and turned away. Over the past two months, her demeanor had become increasingly cold and aloof, like a lotus blooming in the snowy mountains, exuding an intimidating aura.
"Miss Yue Ji doesn’t seem very happy lately."
The Scholar muttered under his breath.
"Damn, isn’t that obvious?"
The Butcher glared and said: "How would you feel being in the same room with your love rival all day?"
Old Master Si, leaning on his cane, said sinisterly from the back: "If you keep gossiping and whining, I’ll cut out your tongues. Haven’t you noticed the tension these days? Why else do you think Miss Lei Ting and Miss Yue Ji are acting separately? They’re competing in secret."
"If it weren’t for the Supreme being in a bad mood, they might have already started fighting."
The old man complained: "As subordinates, our job is to choose a side that will undoubtedly win and bet on it firmly. Otherwise, when one of them rises to power, we might all get cleaned out."
"Come on, isn’t that a trap?"
"With two such evenly matched opponents, who dares to say they will surely win?"
Old Master Si sighed. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"There used to be someone who could hold them down, but now, I guess they’re long gone."
He said gloomily: "What a pity."

On the streets of Sapporo, snowmen were piled up, and couples in heavy clothing jogged through the snow.
Huai Yin, sitting in a wheelchair, suddenly coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood and said with a sigh: "Old age is inevitable, these old bones are getting increasingly useless. I’ve only fought for two or three days, and I might be bedridden for months."
The grocery store’s door was wide open as he sat in his chair, admiring the snow.
As if he was already used to coughing up blood now and then, his face remained calm and unruffled.
Even though he seemed weak enough to drop dead.
"After all, that was the Vermilion Bird Venerate, and possessing two Supreme Laws made them even more advanced than Qilin and the Candle Dragon. Frankly, I don’t even understand how you survived; theoretically, you shouldn’t be their match." Jing Ci stood by his side, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket, unfolding it, and handing it to him.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Do you think the teacher is just anybody?"
Huai Yin rolled his eyes, speaking hauntingly: "There are a few mysteries to this matter. Several decades ago, the Vermilion Bird was clearly exiled to the depths of the temporal vortex, and it should take thousands of years to return. How did it manage to return in full form in just a few decades, surpassing both the Vermilion Bird and Qilin?"
You don’t even have to think to know this must be related to the Gu Family’s curse.
"So you’re saying the one who ambushed the President was the Vermilion Bird Venerate."
Jing Ci suddenly said: "But why, even unto death, would the President never admit it?"
Huai Yin shook his head: "I don’t know either. I can only feel the Vermilion Bird Venerate’s power. At the time, it realized that the Candle Light Divine Tree might be suppressed, so it took the risk to strike, attempting to kill the Master."
"But the Master survived relying on the Eternal Bone. The Vermilion Bird Venerate should have known then that its efforts were futile."
He paused, his expression somewhat displeased: "I bet that it wouldn’t come, but the Junior Brother insisted that it would. This time, I lost the bet, as it did arrive as expected. How annoying."
If it weren’t for dealing with the Vermilion Bird, he would certainly leave the Ancient God Realm and head for Tokyo.
With the Red King such a state, it was an opportunity of a lifetime.
"Why?"
Jing Ci suddenly asked: "Since it clearly knew that it couldn’t stop the Grandmaster, why did it come?"
Huai Yin chuckled: "It came for your Junior Brother."
Jing Ci was slightly taken aback.
"Don’t tell your Junior Brother; he’s not ready to know these things yet."
Huai Yin said calmly.
Jing Ci realized the gravity of the situation; this was already the third time the Vermilion Bird Venerate had appeared.
"More accurately, the Vermilion Bird Venerate wants the Colorless Jade that your Junior Brother holds. It should have sent its clan, but I don’t know why we haven’t seen a single trace of them."
Huai Yin complained irritably: "I was practically scared to death back then, thinking that the Supreme himself would use sheer numbers to gang up on an over two-hundred-year-old man like me. I wondered why the Vermilion Bird Clan was so unsporting? But it turns out, someone had already stopped all its followers."
"Who?"
Jing Ci asked curiously.
"How should I know?"
Huai Yin gave him a sideways glance: "Alright, stop pretending here, go on."
Jing Ci said in surprise: "How did you know?"
"Your Junior Brother seeks revenge, but he’s short of a Demigod Level power. Don’t you still have unresolved grudges with them? Though I’m old, my hearing isn’t gone. Can you two keep it down on the phone next time? Forget it. Take this opportunity, go now. If you don’t, you’ll lose the chance. Buzhou Mountain is about to undergo a major upheaval, and that woman’s shadow is likely to envelop the entire world. I’m unsure if her past with the betrayer will have any impact." Huai Yin waved his hand, and the grocery store suddenly disappeared from its original spot.
Jing Ci slipped his right hand into his pocket, while the other hand held up a black umbrella as he turned and walked into the alley.
