The Animagus: From Hunter to Monster-Chapter 50: High and Low Ranked Hunters
Buji and Rose after being released from the shield conjured by Kira, ran to join other fellow hunters.
Just like the hunter from earlier had said, there was an entrance that will possibly lead them into a more dangerous challenge.
Buji’s mind could only reflect to his previous raid. He tried to compare both but ended at the resolution that they were not currently in a dual dungeon. It’s just a dungeon that had different entrances.
Instructor Jean, possessing a great feat of experience as a hunter, looked into the entrance and displayed how surprise he was.
The interior of the cave-like passage was extremely dark and nothing could be seen.
Of course, nothing could be seen for them humans, but for the bats, it was daylight for them. Buji hence, thought it was nothing to be surprised for.
Instructor Gib looked at her side and found Emra. "Activate it."
Emra understood what she meant. So, she activated her specialty, a flame magic orb, and tossed it further forward into the passage.
Buji, somehow, hated Doris for what she did at the moment. He thought that this intuition talent was a bit of bad luck as it seemed to reveal pessimistic events. Not that it was bad luck, but what Doris affirmed was not suitable for him at the moment.
Just when Emra tossed the magic orb into the cave-like passage to illuminate it, Doris announced that they were going to be facing a close death experience soon. Her instinct made her know that the passage led to the boss chamber, and that… the monstrous bats they had murdered, were in multiples of two guarding the boss.
Meanwhile, the light orb which Emra sent into the passageway did something surprising. At first, it flew forward and illuminated the interior. The passageway seemed unending as it continued deeper. Soon enough, the orb lost its forward momentum and fell on the ground, smoldering for a bit before flickering off, out from existence.
Once again, the interior became dark. Every hunter stole glances at themselves and collectively, turned their head back to the darkness.
Buji, standing beside Instructor Jean trembled in fear. His legs vibrated in a way he couldn’t control. If this was bad news or worst news, he couldn’t tell. He only tried to imagine if the raid was going to be worse than his previous one.
Then, to pass through the statue of chess players, they had sacrificed one of the team members. Only because it was a game. What they were going to face inside there was in no way going to be a game like the other one, since the guards are living things.
He looked up to Instructor Jean who caught his glance just in time, noticing the fear in his eyes.
"Are we proceeding?" Buji’s voice fell in a tremble.
Instructor Jean patted Buji softly on the back and turned to the other hunters. "We are entering inside, for the fact every one of us is still fit to fight."
"Plus, we cannot leave this dungeon without clearing every beast inside. What I’m saying is that the portal won’t appear to grant us that opportunity. The portal will only appear again on two occasions."
"First, if we end up successfully clearing the dungeon, it will appear to allow us out. But, if our time elapses and we’re not done clearing the dungeon, it will also appear to let the beasts out. In that scenario, it only implies one thing…"
"It only implies that we, the hunters inside were already dead," Instructor Gib attested.
"Meanwhile, we are allowed to report the situation to the association. But, with enough information. We don’t know what lies in there, so, we can’t relay them with enough proof as to why we need help. We were assigned this dungeon based on our rank and talents, remember."
"Even, our name should be enough proof. Giving us the name, Debut, only implies that we are yet accomplished as tough hunters," Emra suggested.
"I heard that in situations where other hunters get involved as help in raids, the takings from the dungeon decreases a lot too," Zain commented.
"That’s true," Instructor Gib confirmed. "But, we are still entitled to our standard payment as ranked hunters."
Buji who trembled in fear moments ago, said something that surprised everyone.
"If we are going to get other hunters involved, it only means that we are not compatible to make up a team. Plus, we are not even supposed to," he said, demonstrating with his hands. "I mean, none of us is injured, right?"
The hunters briefly laughed at Buji’s last statement. None injured? When he barely recovered due to Rose’s healing ability.
Realizing why the hunters laughed at him, he said curtly, "I mean, we have a healer here with us. And two mages. Two Instructors, and experienced slayers. Aren’t they enough to take down whatever was inside there," he concluded, pointing to the dark interior passageway.
The facial expressions of other hunters crumpled at Buji’s speech.
They fell into a deep contemplation. Meanwhile, Buji’s voice cut in through their thoughts.
"…that’s more reason I did refer if we take on this raid ourselves, and take down the boss."
"…"
"…"
Instructor Jean was still surprised at the amount of courage Buji had gathered to make that kind of decision. Like, moments ago, he had seen the intense fear in Buji’s eyes.
The truth was that the battle difficulty of the dungeon so far was particularly low. Even, they knew, no one could determine what the next level of battle difficulty would be.
Fighting the monstrous bats seemed easy for the eight of the hunters because they were eight. But from what Doris said, they were going to be facing multiples of that kind of bat. Those bats were sure going to be difficult for only one hunter at the student’s level.
Instructor Jean coughed slightly to gather everyone’s attention to himself.
"Are we pushing through?" he asked.
They shifted their gaze to Buji, who stood beside Instructor Jean. They were going to agree, after all, if Buji was in for whatever was going to happen, they too were in.
He was the weakest among them all, yet, he was ready. Backing off would only mean he had an entourage higher than theirs. And they also needed to keep the team’s reputation afloat.
"We should," came the collective voice of the other hunters.

[01:50:05 remaining to kill the boss.]
As Buji and his team pressed deeper, the air grew thicker with the stench scent of bats.
Emra and Kira together, conjured the magic light orb to illuminate the passageway once again as they moved in deeper into the dungeon.
Buji, at Instructor Jean’s instruction, walked alongside him, close by. He didn’t know his reason, but he guessed it was meant to protect him from more dangers, and injuries. It was a chance to see what he’s worth as a hunter, and maybe, learn from him too.
’That’s why experience is always the best teacher.’
Normally, like Instructor Jean had said, if a dungeon raid failed, there was a high chance for it to break loose because the hunter team assigned to raid it must have elapsed their time. This meant that the beast inhabitant of that particular dungeon could pass the portal that was going to appear and enter their world.

It’s not going to be a good thing for the ear, since it’s going to be unwelcome to the world. The later misfortunes that will take place shouldn’t even be thought about.
Due to matters like this, the association always made sure to assign hunters who they deemed fit and compatible for a particular dungeon raid. They were taking care of an A-rank dungeon, except Buji who was an S-rank hunter.
If only he had a talent, he was going to be involved in S-rank hunting.
The thought of raiding an S-rank dungeon alone made his stomach throb in disgust.
’Just, how deadly was that raid going to be?’
"Buji," Instructor Jean called out.
"Huh."
"A high rank didn’t make a hunter a genius in both combats or put simply, the talent the hunter had awakened. It simply meant that the hunter possessed a great feat of super powers. The talents are only there to help him hone those powers while putting them into action."
"Hence, it’s not a surprise to see a low-ranked hunter who has more strength than a high-ranked hunter. The difference is just that the low-ranked hunter was able to hone the talent with the talent, but the high-ranked hunter has failed in that aspect," Instructor Jean said and halted instantly.
Buji who listened to what Jean said, with his head slightly bowed as they moved deeper, raised his head to know why other hunters had halted.
And he saw it.
In front of them, were numerous monstrous bats, with intense red eyes staring at them.
"Did you understand the information I tried to pass to you?" Instructor Jean asked Buji, regardless.
"I think so. I’m an S-Rank Hunter…" Buji replied.
But Instructor Jean cut him short. "Then, let’s see what you’ve got."
