His eyes navigated the app until it met with the currency tab. He clicked on it and allowed it to drop down options of different currencies. He searched and found the Dollar currency and selected it.

Afterward, he checked his balance. <$248>

"So, H1000.00 (1000 Huncoins) make up $1.00. Hmm. And I thought I was rich," he said and changed it back to the Huncoin currency. He preferred to see large numbers, at least in the meantime.

He left the Account tab and hovered his fingers over to the Profile tab.

There, he saw a little information about himself as a student.

Name: Buji Yinyin

Class: 1st Year Hunters

Team: Debut

Rank: S-rank

Talent: ---

Achievements: Killed a dungeon boss (1/10)

Buji saw the bracket and didn’t understand what it meant. Since the Achievement came as a button, he clicked on it to load and open it.

<Achievements>

Description: on a fore note, the hunter should be aware that this description is limited to him alone. The reason is that the hunter has yet to awaken a talent.

The only option the hunter has to awaken a talent is to kill up to ten dungeon bosses. After that, the hunter will be allowed to enjoy other rewards and benefits of being the killer of a dungeon boss.

"I see. Only until I am able to kill up to ten dungeon bosses," Buji chuckled. "This is close to impossible if I must say. Even if it were to be other hunters, they should try killing something similar to those massive bats."

"Whatever, this hunter app doesn’t look interesting," he muttered and closed the app.

Buji laid back down on his bed, staring at the blank ceiling above him. He thought about the system’s reward. It was time for it to materialize if only he knew how to summon it.

Then he suddenly remembered the DEMONS system. At least he needed to be patient enough and recover fully first. And he was able to communicate with the system then with his mind, with his thoughts.

’DEMONS!’ he thought.

Like before, the system rang out in his mind, a cold mechanical monotone.

[Recovery System: D.E.M.O.N.S]

<Weekly Summon Initiated>

[Your body is currently assessed.]

[Body assessment completed.]

[Initiating recovery protocol…]

And immediately, Buji was tossed out of the reality he knew and everywhere had suddenly become dark, only for his eyes to adjust to a sudden brightness later on.

If it were to be his first time, he would have asked questions. But now, it was normal, any strange thing he felt or seen.

He looked around the room, it was different from the former one when he had first witnessed the recovery system.

There was the sound, the sound of a beeping machine. Also, he realized an IV drip was attached to his arms, surprising.

’A hospital?’

He was in a hospital, except something was different with this hospital. The choking scents, the bright walls, were not in existence here. The walls were brown in color, illuminated by the sharp bright light that came from the window.

The color contrast was still… strange but… anyway.

As he tried to sit up, he felt a sudden surge of energy flow into his body. First, from his chest, then radiating like a wave of molten energy to his entire body parts. He felt the warmth.

He looked up at the drip that was connected to him, the fluid was finished and he reasoned. ’I’ve not been here long, I guess. So, how?’

The appearance of the system, hovering in the eyes before his eyes, replied his thoughts.

<Ding!>

[Congratulations on completing your first dungeon quest.]

[Description: Kill the Dungeon Boss.]

[Rewards will be granted shortly.]

Beside the screen was a second screen, with floating notifications.

[Level Up!!]

[Level Up!!]

[Level Up!!]

[Level Up!!]

[Level Up!!]

[Level Up!!]

[Congrats. Level 21 attained.]

’Okay, but that’s very fast. From 0?’ his thoughts doubted. ’I really need to know how this level-up level-up stuff works.’

<Ding!>

[Reward: unread.]

He clicked on the message to view its information.

[Congratulations! Rewards for completing the quest: Kill the Boss! Have been granted.]

[Ding! New skill detected!]

[Skill: Phantom Step…]

Description: grants the Player the ability to teleport a short distance within their line of sight and action, leaving an afterimage to confuse the enemies.

[Congrats!]

’That’s it… the step the bat boss had used while they fought. He didn’t know the name then, but it gave the bat an edge over him and Instructor Jean during the fight.’

[Title Achieved: Rookie Slayer]

[Awarded to the Player for defeating his first dungeon boss. +5% Score Points added to stats.]

’Rookie Slayer? Am I even worth it?’

[Ding! New Acquisitions detected!!]

[Aetherfang (Upgraded)]

Buji’s eyes widened at the notification that showed ’Aetherfang Upgraded’. He quickly tapped on the ’Aetherfang’ to view its details.

Description: The Aetherfang blade is a very exclusive rare weapon that has been acquired by the Player. It can cause 50% damage to an object if used with precision. It is enhanced to go against mana-based creatures.

Special Ability: it absorbs energy (able to store mana from defeated enemies to replenish the Player’s stamina and skills).

’Cool,’ Buji thought. ’So this is why I was given the sword once the quest was activated. This is also why the bat’s movements drastically decreased with just one of my strikes. Even though the bat’s resolve made it strong enough to fight back.’

The sword was rare to find among hunters. Not rare, it can’t be found with any hunter of this age. It should be leagues above the dominant swords even high hunters made use of.

Then another notification from the system broke the brief silence that had suddenly broken out in the room.

[Ding! Score Points (SP) Boost… +10% each]

Another screen popped up.

[Ding! Quest Completion: 40,000 Moncoins received…]

[The player can now check the account for more monetary rewards.]

’Account,’ Buji communicated with the mind.

[Account Initiating…]

[Personal Account or Inheritance Account?]

Buji thought for a while. He couldn’t recall what the system had told him initially, but he remembered it using the phrase ’level up’. So, he decided to check his Inheritance Account first.

’Inheritance Account!’

[Inheritance Account:…

Account Details (Locked), Account Balance (Locked)]

[The Player can only have access to this account when he levels up to the next class | Class 2: Necromancer (Ability to engage with the undead and spirits.]

’So, I still can’t have access?’

’Personal Account!’

[Activation Pin require]

’0000.’

[Personal Account Activated Successfully…]

[Name: Buji Yinyin

Number: 2112004455

Currency: Moncoins

Balance: Calculating…]

[Congrats! You were inevitable while killing the dungeon boss! Reward: M40,000.00]

[New Skill Unlocked… Reward: M5,000.00]

[Title Acquired… Reward: M5,000.00]

[Acquisition… Upgrade Cost: Less M2,500.00]

He was still trying to sink in the information of his account details when another screen popped up, distracting him. But, he failed to be distracted. He shifted the screen to one side and continued with the account screen.

[Acquisition Item Acquired… Reward: M5,000.00]

’Which item?’ Buji didn’t see any new item acquired, apart from the Aetherfang which was upgraded.

[Total Income received… calculating!]

[Income: M55,000.00 received (Rich MF, on first quest)]

[Less M2,500.00]

[Balance: M52,500.00]

Buji couldn’t suppress the grin spreading across his face. The system is just too generous.

’Too generous.’

As Buji slid the screen away, he collapsed immediately onto the bed he lay on.

But why?

All that happened next was that he opened his eyes, only to find out he had arrived in his room. And then, the voice shouted in his mind.

[Recovery Process completed.]

[The Player has done well by summoning the D.E.M.O.N.S system. The next summoning will be the coming week.]

He had been drowned in the system’s rewards that he didn’t remember he was given medical attention by the recovery system. And now he thought about it, he shouldn’t have even summoned the system.

It clearly stated that his next chance of summoning would be the following week and tomorrow… tomorrow he will be facing a dungeon by himself. What will he do after the raid?

Survival was not his concern. He had inherited 99 more survival chances, his concern was ’How will I get myself treated after the raid?’

Not that he lacked the confidence of a successful raid. But that, the possibility of sustaining a severe injury was there. Inevitable.

"Gosh, gosh, gosh!" he lamented, hitting his bed as he rose from it and made it to the window.

’What should I do? I mean, what will I do?’

Nothing obviously. The reality of being a hunter only began to sink in. It wasn’t about the rewards, it was about the reality of life and death.

The reality of being a hunter.
