The Art of Chaotic Divinity-Chapter 1404: Clingy Fairy
About an hour later, all fifteen elite teams were assembled. Hall Master Zuo Feiqing of Tempest Wind Hall personally explained the current situation in detail.
"What? You want us to handle logistics?"
Bai Qi's eyes flew wide in anger. "If we're stuck doing logistics, how are we supposed to kill generals and earn merit? Damn it, what did I even come here for?"
"That's right, Hall Master Zuo. We're elites from the Creation Star Ranking. Do we not have any pride?"
"If you're making me handle supplies, I might as well head back to the sect and sleep. What a waste of time!"
Just as Zuo Feiqing had expected, these inner sect elites were all brimming with ambition. Each of them had come burning with fighting spirit, determined to compete for the supreme promise of the sect master. To assign them to logistics right from the start was like dumping a bucket of cold water over their heads.
Ling Feng also frowned slightly. However, when he noticed the faint smile at the corner of Zuo Feiqing's lips, he knew there was more to come.
"Calm down, all of you." Zuo Feiqing raised a hand and spoke loudly. "Since none of you are willing to handle logistics, then prove your strength. Tomorrow, Supreme Elder Xu of the Hall of War will assign you a mission to capture and kill enemy scouts. Any team that performs satisfactorily will qualify to enter the Dead Soul Devil Abyss and earn merit."
He paused before continuing, "However, I must warn you in advance. The Dead Soul Devil Abyss is extremely dangerous. If anyone does not wish to take the risk, you may apply now to withdraw and remain in logistics."
Clearly, no one present intended to back down. In this world, danger and reward were equal in weight. Without risk, how could one earn more contribution points or build greater merit?
A sharp light flickered in Ling Feng's eyes. He had already made up his mind. He would personally kill the leader of that barbarian squad. This first opportunity to make a name for himself could not be missed.
"Very good. As expected of the elites of Dongling Immortal Pool. You have not disappointed me!"
Zuo Feiqing nodded in satisfaction. "Return and rest well today. We depart at dawn tomorrow!"
The crowd dispersed immediately. Several team leaders who were on familiar terms began provoking one another, boasting that they would be the ones to take down the barbarian squad.
Ling Feng's team also returned to their quarters.
As team leader, Chu Tiange gave a brief speech to boost morale before dismissing everyone to rest.
The night passed without incident.
At dawn the next day, the group left Mountain City and entered a vast primeval forest that stretched endlessly ahead.
The northern barbarian scouts were scattered throughout it.
The fifteen teams decided to split into smaller units of three before entering the forest.
A group of more than ten would be too conspicuous and easily exposed. Breaking apart into smaller units reduced their visibility and lowered the chance of detection.
Seeing that none of the teams had made the obvious mistake of charging in together, Zuo Feiqing nodded slightly. "It seems these youngsters did not leave their brains behind when they came to the battlefield."
Standing beside him was a middle aged man clad in armor. He was Elder Cao Yang, sent by Xu Zhengfeng to record each team's performance in battle.
Hearing Zuo Feiqing's remark, Cao Yang merely smiled faintly and offered no comment. In his eyes, these newcomers still appeared far too green.
...
After all fifteen teams entered the forest, they concealed their auras and began searching for the enemy scouts.
Ling Feng moved together with two teammates, Fairy Qingping and Lin Mu. Needless to say, Fairy Qingping had insisted on this arrangement. Although Chu Tiange was the team leader, he was not strong enough to refuse her.
This woman had practically lost all restraint. Other than when she was asleep, she rarely let Ling Feng out of her sight.
Whenever she had the chance, she would transmit her voice through spiritual consciousness, nagging him endlessly that once they returned to Dongling Immortal Pool, he must kneel towards Senior Brother Qin.
Ling Feng found her utterly unbearable. At times he truly felt the urge to strangle this brainless woman.
Just then, Yuwen Changkong flew past them and shot Ling Feng a cold glance. When he noticed Fairy Qingping at Ling Feng's side, caution flickered across his face, and he forcibly suppressed the chill in his eyes.
Sensing the gaze, Ling Feng turned his head. His expression cooled as he let out a soft snort. "You really are like a lingering ghost!"
"Hmph! Do not get ahead of yourself! Inside the Immortal Pool you had rules protecting you. Out here, a moment of arrogance means death. You should just stay behind and wait to be assigned to logistics," Yuwen Changkong said coldly.
Ling Feng shrugged. "I think you're the one better suited for logistics!"
"We shall see! Hmph!" With a furious snort, Yuwen Changkong darted into the forest and vanished with his two companions.
Fairy Qingping watched the exchange and spoke calmly. "Yuwen Changkong is right about one thing. I advise you to remain in logistics. I have said before that your life must be judged by Senior Brother Qin. Before that happens, you are not allowed to die by anyone else's hand!"
"Then you better protect me well! I tend to head straight for wherever the danger is," Ling Feng replied with a roll of his eyes.
"Hmph!" Fairy Qingping snorted and shot him a glare but said nothing further.
"Hehe, Brother Ling, could you not show a little grace?" Lin Mu patted Ling Feng on the shoulder with a grin.
Ling Feng only shrugged before leaping into the forest. Fairy Qingping's figure flashed as she followed closely behind.
Lin Mu shook his head and muttered, "Anyone who did not know better would think those two were a devoted couple, inseparable wherever they go."
The forest spanned thousands of li. Finding a single person within it was like searching for a needle in the sea. It would take time.
Before long, Ling Feng landed atop a tree canopy. Yin and yang patterns swirled in his eyes as he activated Boundless Vision. Though its range was less than a hundred li, it was far more efficient than wandering aimlessly.
As his spiritual consciousness grew stronger, the coverage of Boundless Vision expanded as well.
Within roughly sixty li, everything lay exposed before him. Even the slightest movement could not escape his sight.
"There are no enemies within sixty li. There is no need to waste time here."
As soon as he finished speaking, he shot forward at full speed.
Fairy Qingping frowned slightly. "Within sixty li? You declare there are none and that makes it so? Even my spiritual consciousness cannot cover such a vast area. You are clearly guessing and pretending to be mysterious!"
"Clingy Fairy, you are free not to follow!" Ling Feng's mocking voice drifted back from ahead.
Fairy Qingping clenched her fists, trembling with anger. This bastard actually called me Clingy Fairy!
"Clingy... Ahem, Fairy Qingping, you should trust Ling Feng," Lin Mu said with a laugh. "I know his temperament. He does not speak lightly. If he says there are no enemies within sixty li, then there are none."
With that, Lin Mu flashed forward and followed Ling Feng closely.
Fairy Qingping pressed her lips together and said bitterly, "As if I would believe him. He is only at the Spiritual Sea Realm. How could his spiritual consciousness surpass mine? Fine. I will wait and see how this bastard embarrasses himself!"
Despite her words, she had no choice but to follow.
Without realizing it, she truly had become a clingy fairy.
