Chapter 1406: The Most Shameless Man Alive

"Quick, after them. One each!"

A sharp light flashed in Fairy Qingping's eyes. At last she seemed to realize this was war, not the place for petty quarrels.

Ling Feng caught her by the wrist before she could move. His voice dropped. "Do not show yourselves yet. We follow them in secret. They are retreating toward their stronghold!"

She froze and turned to him. "How do you know?"

"I listened."

Ling Feng lifted a brow. Boundless Vision did not merely paint images in his mind. It also allowed him to hear what he chose to hear.

After breaking out of the encirclement, the three barbarian scouts had received a summon from their commander and were withdrawing to the stronghold to regroup before pulling out together.

That was why Ling Feng decided to follow the trail and uproot them in one sweep.

Fairy Qingping bit down on her lip and shot him a vicious glare before turning away in silence.

Ling Feng ignored her and slipped off with Lin Mu to track the scouts from the shadows. As for that Clingy Fairy, he knew she would follow whether she admitted it or not.

The three scouts were cautious. Along the way, they changed direction three times and even circled wide to shake off any pursuers.

They had no idea that under Boundless Vision, Ling Feng saw everything clearly. Watching them put on this performance, he felt nothing at all. If anything, he found it faintly amusing.

About half a quarter of an hour later, the scouts entered a hidden stone forest. Deep within it, several figures patrolled back and forth, keeping watch.

"Reporting to Commander Gao. The Charles Walker squad has returned successfully!"

A squad leader in charge of headcount hurried over to report.

Inside a concealed stone chamber formed by massive boulders, a black-armored man paced with his hands clasped behind his back. His expression was cold, though a trace of impatience lingered beneath it.

"Mhmm, twelve squads were sent out. How many have returned?" he asked flatly.

The squad leader barely dared to breathe. "Including the Walker squad, only three have made it back. The rest have all lost contact."

Rage flashed across the black-armored commander's face. He struck the stone table beside him with a single palm.

Crack!

The table shattered into powder.

"So the Hall of War's reinforcements have truly arrived," he said through clenched teeth. "They can spare this many Human Emperors just to deal with us!"

"Commander, shall we continue waiting for the other nine squads?" the squad leader asked in a trembling voice.

Though furious, the commander remained composed. After a slow breath, he shook his head. "No need. Wood and the others are likely dead. We will withdraw immediately. If they discover this stronghold, we will all be finished."

"Gather everyone. Retreat at once. Once we reach North Luo Mountain, we will be safe."

Beyond the forest lay the northern barbarians' territory. Their alliance with the northern demon tribe had established North Luo Mountain as a stronghold, from which they launched fierce assaults on the human experts defending the Land of War.

The barbarian soldiers moved in disciplined order. They formed ranks quickly and began withdrawing from the stone forest at speed.

Hidden in the shadows, Fairy Qingping's gaze locked onto the commander. Her expression turned grave. "This is bad. He is a Third Stage Extreme Human Emperor!"

Ling Feng arched his brow. "How confident are you in killing him?"

Her lips twitched. "Have you grown used to killing above your level? He is Extreme Third Stage. I am only in the Extreme Second Stage. I can fight him head-on, but killing him would be nearly impossible."

"Tch. And you call yourself a top thirty elite of the Creation Star Ranking. When it matters, you are useless."

Ling Feng scoffed, while Fairy Qingping gritted her teeth in anger, saying resentfully, "Ling Feng, my patience has its limits!"

Ling Feng shrugged, unfazed. "Then let me put it another way. If you fight that black-armored commander, how long can you hold him off?"

Now that they had traced the enemy back to their nest, Ling Feng had no intention of letting these walking contribution points escape!

"If his subordinates do not interfere, I can tie him down for about a quarter of an hour," she replied after a moment. "But there are several Extreme Second Stage squad leaders as well. If I have to face him and them together, I can hold for about half the time it takes to drink a cup of tea."

Ling Feng's eyes lit up. "Not bad. You are more useful than I thought."

He smiled faintly. "Half a cup of tea is enough. Do not forget my Soul Dao divine skills. You hold them off. I will send them to the afterlife. Brother Lin, the rest are yours. Do not let a single one escape!"

Lin Mu raised a hand in agreement, excitement surging in his chest. As expected of Ling Feng. Three people against more than a dozen enemies, including an Extreme Third Stage Human Emperor, and he still dared to strike head-on.

Most would not even dream of it.

Fairy Qingping drew a steady breath and looked at him seriously. "Are you certain? The risk is enormous!"

"Oh? The famed Fairy Qingping, future woman of the Unrivaled Young Emperor, is afraid?" Ling Feng grinned. "If you are scared, you can leave now."

"Afraid? Of course not!"

Provoked by Ling Feng's taunt, Qingping Fairy immediately lost her composure. Gritting her teeth, she snapped, "He's just a mere barbarian general!"

"That is more like it! Let me see what the Unrivaled Young Emperor's woman is truly worth!"

Ling Feng suppressed a laugh. This woman was easy to handle. Mention the Unrivaled Young Emperor, and she burned with pride.

"Watch closely!"

Unaware she had been completely played, Fairy Qingping gritted her teeth and donned a silver soft armor. She took out several treasures and held them ready. She carried no shortage of life-saving trump cards.

Ling Feng clicked his tongue, feeling a little more at ease. He had no fondness for her, but since he was the one pushing her into this fight, he would feel at least a trace of guilt if she died at that barbarian general's hands.

At least for a second!

"Go on then, Clingy Fairy. Take the lead. Try not to die. If you do, I will have to spend money on firecrackers to celebrate!"

Ling Feng raised an eyebrow and chuckled.

"You will die before I do!" Fairy Qingping snapped, then hurriedly corrected herself. "No, your life belongs to Senior Brother Qin..."

"Enough, I can recite that speech myself by now... Do you ever get tired of it?"

Rolling his eyes, Ling Feng lifted his foot and kicked her squarely on the rear, sending her flying out from their hiding place.

"Ling Feng, you bastard!"

She cursed him inwardly, but she had already exposed herself to the enemy. There was no choice but to fight.

"Just you wait. I will settle this with you later. I will hang you up and beat you senseless!"

Her teeth itched with fury. Never in her life had she seen a man so shameless. He had actually kicked a woman out to take the first charge. Worse, he had kicked her on the rear!

This was the most shameless, most ill-mannered, most outrageous man in the world!

The absolute worst!
