Chapter 882: Heavenly Weapon

"Despicable Donkey?!"

Ling Feng's eyes nearly popped out of his skull. Who would've thought this donkey had such a righteous side?

As Despicable Donkey was about to be chewed into paste by the Lord of the Void, Kaezik, Ling Feng quickly shouted, "Lord, spare the donkey!"

Kaezik frowned, the tiny face on its tentacle twisting in displeasure. "Boy, don't you think you're pushing your luck?"

Still, it gave Ling Feng some face—after all, Ling Feng was its ticket out of this abyss.

Meanwhile, the Despicable Donkey, dangling over the beast's gaping maw, was convinced his time was up. He'd thought maybe—just maybe—he'd get to see Ling Feng one last time.

But the monster's reflexes were too sharp.

The moment he'd been snatched, he'd accepted his fate. Yet here he was, still alive, and... was that Ling Feng's voice?

Despicable Donkey's eyes snapped open. He craned his neck and nearly wept.

"Brat, you're alive?!"

A mix of relief and regret flooded him. Damn it, if I'd known he was fine, why the hell did I jump down?!

Screw loyalty! Did I fry my brain?!

Ling Feng studied the donkey. From that moment on, he'd see him differently.

Sure, the donkey was shameless, greedy, perverted, and sleazy—basically devoid of any redeeming qualities.

But over time, Ling Feng had grown used to him. If the donkey were gone, he'd actually feel... lost.

At least when things got dire, the donkey didn't back down.

Like now.

"Great Lord," Ling Feng bowed deeply. "This black donkey is my contracted spirit pet. Could you—"

"Your spirit pet?" Kaezik's voice turned icy. "This lord already indulged you enough. One more word, and this lord will eat the girl too!"

It dangled the donkey over its mouth again.

"Kid, burn extra incense for me on the first and fifteenth of every month!" the donkey wailed.

Is this really how it ends?!

"Eat me too!" Ling Feng roared. "If I die, Queen Ke Weili stays trapped forever—and so do you!"

Silence.

A bead of sweat rolled down Ling Feng's temple. His only bargaining chip was his own life.

"Take your spirit pet and get out!" Kaezik finally snarled, dropping the donkey.

Despicable Donkey scrambled behind Ling Feng, still trembling.

"Thank you, Lord. I'll make sure Queen Ke Weili frees you first."

Ling Feng breathed a sigh of relief. Thank heavens the monster respects Ke Weili.

"You're the first human to steal food from this lord's jaws—twice." Kaezik's gaze was unsettling.

Then, unexpectedly, it laughed. "This lord admires guts!"

"Your kindness humbles me," Ling Feng said, thinking, "Just don't eat me."

"Take this."

A tentacle plunged into the Nether-River Deadwater and flung a rusted chain at Ling Feng's feet.

"What's this?"

"Don't underestimate it. This is a Spirit Shackle, used by divine beings to bind spirits. This lord's true form is pinned here by ten thousand of these. It took this lord a millennia to break this one free."

Ling Feng's eyes lit up. If it could restrain Kaezik, it was priceless.

"Use it to hunt for sword souls in ancient battlefields. That blade of yours needs one."

"Sword soul?" Ling Feng stiffened. "What do you mean?"

"That sword, Queen Ke Weili gave it to you, didn't she?"

"Uh... yes... Yes!"

"Tch. A Heavenly Weapon in the hands of a brat."

"Heavenly Weapon? What's that?"

"Heh. So she told you nothing."

Ling Feng improvised, "Our meeting was brief. She had bigger things to discuss."

"Figures. You know of the Heavenly Dao Clan?"

"A little."

"Heavenly Weapons were their birthright—divine arms only they could wield. But their power bred envy. The Heaven-Patrolling Clan led others to slaughter them."

Kaezik's voice grew grim. "Their weapons should've vanished with them. But the Heavenly Refiners found a way to strip the blades away. The entire clan was exterminated to forge just twenty-some Heavenly Weapons."

Rage burned in Ling Feng's chest.

Genocide. Theft. And these are the so-called divine beings?

He forced his voice steady. "And then?"

"Ke Weili must've stolen yours from the divine race. But without its sword soul, it's only half a Heavenly Weapon."

"Thank you for the wisdom, Great Lord." Ling Feng pocketed the shackle. "With your leave, we'll go now."

Kaezik sank back into the abyss.

"Brat, you look like hell," the donkey muttered, sensing Ling Feng's fury through their bond.

"Let's get out first."

Ling Feng scooped up Jiang Biyi and began the climb.
