The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 31: Ch : What Should I do?
__________Rose’s pov
’I was not even away for 20 minutes, but the air in here has changed. Why is no one paying attention to me? Just where are all these people looking?’
Their lack of interest irritated me, but I tried to pay it no mind. However, there was one pair of eyes I was not able to avoid- that fake Jennas. It made me shiver.
But just as quickly as they had looked at me, they looked away as well.
I turned toward Karl, wanting to instruct him to find out what happened. But he stood frozen by my side as well. His wide eyes told me that he would be useless from here on.
So it fell on me to check what happened.
The first thing I looked around for was Anabella. As the host of the party, she was the more important person. But she was nowhere to be seen.
’Where the heck did that bitch go? Ugh, fine-! I will just track you down.’
I took out a phone with a tracker on it. Unknown to my most...’important’... supporters, I had installed special bugs on their devices to make sure I would always be able to track them down.
Loyalty meant nothing if it couldn’t be monitored. I was not taking any chances. I found her signal in the back rooms.
"Karl, do you want to go to the restroom again? I think I need to check something."
I told him and he looked confused at me.
"Need to check...? But I don’t think it’s your time of the month..."
I jabbed him in the stomach to make him shut up.
"Stop questioning me."
I told him and Karl understood that refusal was not an option. He followed after me quietly, and no reporter bothered to follow after us as we exited toward the backside.
The bodyguard outside Anabella’s guest room recognized us but seemed torn about whether he should let us in or not, but ultimately decided to let us in.
"Anabella, are you in there? It’s me, Rose. Can I and Karl come in?"
I asked and there was no reply from the other side. My patience was starting to wear thin, but I needed to show that I was on Anabella’s side. So I decided to press past the guard anyway.
Anabella was curled around herself, her eyes filled with unshed tears as she looked at me.
As soon as her eyes noticed me, she lunged toward me and wrapped her arms around me. Her body shook as she tried to get a hold of herself. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"R-Rose, you are here? G-Good... I did not know who else to contact about what happened. T-That fake Jenna, Damian’s partner... she knows-! She knows what we are doing and she threatens to expose us."
Anabella sobbed as she spoke and I felt my insides freeze over as those words reached my ear.
’W-WHAT-? Who found out about what? I need to cut all contact with Anabella and this case as soon as possible. I cannot get caught in such a scandal.’
I needed to do something. I was in danger as well if this news were to get out.
"R-Rose, you will help me out, right? I-I am so scared... and you promised me everything will be just fine when you told me to start this charity. You need to take responsibility."
Anabella told me with tears flowing down her eyes. She was trying to make me take responsibility.
I refused to get impacted by her actions, but I still needed her to act.
"Oh my-! Don’t cry Anabella. I will help you out. After all, I am your friend. And isn’t it simple what you need to do from here? You need to make sure the one who knows your secret is not able to tell it to the world."
I softly whispered in Anabella’s ear and she suddenly stopped to give me a soft but grateful look. Hook, line, and sinker.
"I need... to make sure they won’t be able to tell? Like, permanently close someone’s mouth... I can do that. Thank you for your help, Rose. Your advice is always so useful. I don’t know how I will ever be able to repay you."
Anabella told Rose, her voice soft and grateful.
She was also very easy to manipulate and she trusted me completely. She was a perfect pawn to have. Unfortunately, she had outlived her usefulness to me and now it was time to throw her away and get a new pawn.
Pawns were replaceable. Queens never were.
________Jenna’s Pov
"Mr. Black, can I have a fraction of your time...?"
"I need to talk to you as well. It is about a collaboration request."
"How about we talk? We have an established partnership, right? Do you remember me—?"
We were heading back out, the drinks in our hand going untouched. It was a party where eating or drinking anything was dangerous.
But right before we had reached the door, a bunch of people decided to approach us, almost like they had appeared out of thin air.
Damian looked agitated at our sudden company.
"Excuse us, but we would like to head home now. We are both a little tired..."
I tried to mediate when Damian did not speak up. He was giving me a look that I interpreted as ’please help me out’. So I immediately made an excuse for us.
But no one bought my excuse.
"We understand that you are busy, Mr. Black. But how about a drink before you go? Surely you won’t say no to that."
The suspicious man offered Damian a drink, and I grabbed it before he could take it. His fingers twitched—like someone ready to celebrate a kill.
Damian gave me a startled look, his eyes asking me what I was doing. Even the others looked at me with the same questioning eyes, wondering what I was doing at the moment.
But I just smiled at them all and swirled the wine inside the glass. The liquid clung to the glass too thickly. No normal wine behaved like that.
"Ah, thank you. I was quite thirsty so I appreciate this... woah—"
I deliberately pretended to trip so that I could make the glass fall from my hands. Some of it ended up on my dress, and I made an aghast face at the fallacy I had committed.
"Oh my—! What did I just do... Damian, I am so sorry."
My voice sounded naturally sorry, and I did feel a little guilty as I looked at the server who had a pained expression on his face.
But I did not bother to save too much face today. I was not the star of tonight’s show.
"D-Don’t worry about it. Here, why don’t you—"
The man who had offered Damian the previous drink called for another one. But Damian narrowed his eyes this time and stood beside me with an annoyed frown on his face.
"It seems like my partner has sullied her dress and you all are wasting my time here when I could be helping her out. I will take my leave now."
Damian told me, and I saw the glares that were being thrown my way. People were measuring my worth, wondering how much they could use me. It was time to get away.
"Darling, let’s go. The star of today’s party is someone else."
Damian told me, and I nodded. We both held our composure and entered our car. But once we did, we both let out a groan filled with irritation.
