Chapter 38: Ch 38: Out of Hospital

"I have checked you already, and found no...problems with your body. You are free to return home now..."

The doctor trailed off, his body shaking a little as he felt Damian’s glare. I could neither fault the doctor for being scared, nor Damian for his constant vigilance, especially after every attempt to get close to him in this hospital had turned into a circus of desperation and stupidity.

After the incident with the nurse, there have been a...few more incidents where nurses had tried to get close to Damian and some had tried very...creative approaches that made me wonder if the medical school was also teaching seduction techniques now.

In the end, Damian had gotten frustrated enough to throw them all out and then banned them from entering the room. Not that it had stopped the daring nurses from trying to come closer anyway.

Apparently, self-respect was optional here.

"So you can do your work properly. And here I thought you were a spineless fool who cannot control his own staff."

Damian was not even accusing at this point, he was speaking a fact. The doctor was sweating as he looked at Damian, as if Damian’s gaze alone could kill him on the spot.

"I...I was on the break..."

Jason, the blond secretary, quickly stepped forward and blocked the doctor from his boss’s sight.

"Sir, I think it would be for the best if you stop speaking now. And boss, we should return now. Your schedule is packed tight for the next few days. We do not have time to waste."

Jason’s sharp voice and quick thinking might have saved the poor doctor’s life. But for some reason, he kept looking at me when he spoke. His attention was making me nervous.

"Fine. I guess it is time for us to leave now."

Damian agreed as he grabbed my arm and pulled me up. For a second, his eyes met Jason’s and something passed in-between them, a silent warning, or a reminder of hierarchy I couldn’t decode.

The next second, Jason gave a small bow toward me and Damian.

"Don’t worry, boss. I will take care of the clean-up here. You do not have to worry about anything."

He promised us as we left the annoying hospital, his eyes lingering on me for a fraction too long, like he wanted to make sure I heard him specifically.

However, the nurses that fancied Damian were not about to give up. I spied one of them hiding at the next corner and I had no doubt she would deploy the secret tactic of ’accidentally running into target’ and then falling down ’sexily’ to seduce the target.

If these nurses did it once or twice, I could still excuse it. But weren’t they doing it too much?

A very small part of me wanted revenge for all the annoyances I had faced in this hospital. And that small part was getting bigger by the second until it made my eyes twitch.

I tapped Damian to make him stop and he followed my orders with an amused look on his face.

"What are you planning?"

Damian whispered, and his voice sent goosebumps down my spine. I held myself in check before I broke free from him and walked toward the next corridor alone.

My sharp senses picked up the sound of someone shuffling around...until I reached the corner and someone pretended to come out and collide with me.

"Ouch...what happened...Did we run into each other...?"

The female asked as she looked at me. Her eyes blinked as she suddenly realized that she had run into a far frailer body than she had been expecting. Her eyes blinked as she looked behind me, only to see Damian a few feet away.

She connected two and two together and paled a little. But that did not stop her from still putting on an act

Embarrassment was temporary but determination to be pathetic was eternal. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Ouch, it hurts. Can someone help me?"

She looked directly at Damian, making her intentions painfully obvious for anyone watching us. She was not going to go down without a fight easily.

But if she could act, then so could I. And looking at the performance I was up against, it was safe to say that I was the better performer for sure.

"Ouch-! It hurts. Damian, I think I sprained my ankle. Can you help me out?"

I asked, extending my hand toward him as well. And this time, Damian did not hesitate. He took my hand and helped me up.

My ankle was perfectly fine, but I still pretended to lean against Damian to show that I was in pain, and I made sure our closeness was unmistakable beyond any fantasy she could have conjured.

"Of course I will help you out, darling. Let me help you out..."

Damian’s arms wrapped around my waist and he took the whole of my weight in his arms. The female in front of us looked at me in envy, her eyes threatening to ’curse’ me for taking her man away from her.

But Damian was not her man. It was all in her head, a delusion she had made to satisfy her ego. And now it was being shattered with every inch his hands held me and every second he ignored her existence.

As we walked past her, I could not help but turn around and give her one last word of advice.

"Miss, you look hurt. You should get your ankle checked out...and your head as well. It seems like you get a little too lost in your thoughts. Didn’t you somehow end up in our room by accident as well?"

The female’s face went red as she tried to rebuke my claim. But the more she tried to speak, the more she realized that she was not able to get the words out.

Humiliation can silence louder than pain ever could.

In the end, she suppressed her words and decided to take her leave. Everyone watched her leave, their eyes sharp and curious.

Unfortunately, I had a feeling that this nurse’s career was over and that no one else would try something this foolish again. Rumor was the most powerful predator in a workplace, and it had just found its next meal.

"Let’s get going. We do not have time to waste on ignorant fools anymore."

Damian told me as he led me out. His voice was clear for everyone to hear-do not follow him or cause him problems.

He was serious about his threat as well. After all, more than a few people had already lost their jobs because of their foolishness already.
