The Betrayed Heiress's Second Comeback-Chapter 77: Ch : Discharged
Being in the hospital with nothing to do was boring. The sterile white walls felt suffocating after a while.
Since Damian had decided to take my phone as well, there was truly nothing for me to do but sit down and wait for him to come back.
Thankfully, after one day of feeling like I was losing my mind, Damian came back with the doctor to check up on me.
"Do not strain your eyes for a while and rest as much as you can. Otherwise, the drug is out of your system as well. You are free to head back home."
The doctor looked nervous as he diagnosed me. I had a feeling it had something to do with Damian’s glare making the doctor nervous.
"Are you sure nothing is wrong with her now?"
Damian asked, and the doctor wiped off the excessive sweat on his brow before he replied.
"I-I am sure about it. Well, I cannot say that this won’t have any side-effects, but as for any real problem...the patient should not have any..."
The poor doctor looked like he was about to faint, and I decided to help him out.
I almost felt bad for him.
"Damian, I am fine. If I feel dizzy or such, then I will come to the hospital and get myself checked out by the doctor. You do not have to worry that much about me."
Damian did not look happy with my decision to leave the hospital so early, but now that I had the doctor’s permission, he had no reason left to object either.
"Fine. I will go and sign your discharge papers and settle the bill. Wait for me here and do not leave without permission."
That felt like a threat, and one that I intended to follow. I kept sitting on my bed as I watched Damian leave.
The doctor also let out a relief-filled sigh as he watched Damian leave before he turned toward me and let out an embarrassed laugh and his shoulders visibly relaxed.
"Hahaha, I thought I was going to die right now. Thank god I am alive...anyway, miss, you should consider yourself lucky to be found when you did. The sleeping agent used on you was quite strong. It might have left some permanent damage had we not worked fast on you."
The doctor told me in an almost worried voice. Then, he lowered his voice and continued.
"I would appreciate it if you do not speak of this to anyone else, please. Especially our boss, Damian. I just...thought you should know this."
The doctor was earnest and also fearful for his life. I nodded at his words, and he settled down seconds before the door opened and Damian marched inside.
"We are ready to go home now. Here, you should hold my hand while we walk. It is not safe for you to be walking unsupervised."
Damian’s eyes told me that giving him ’no’ was not an option here. So I extended my hand toward him and let him wrap his hands around my own and pull me closer.
We left the hospital, and Jason greeted us once we got into the car.
"Hello, Miss Jenna. It is nice to see you both healthy. I am so glad that you are fine. Our boss was insufferable for the past few days, and we had to work extra hard...oops, I will quit now."
Jason quickly stopped speaking, and I had a feeling it had something to do with the sour expression on Damian’s face.
Fortunately, we quickly got back home, and I finally got the chance to take a normal shower before I checked my phone and social media.
The hot water helped clear my mind.
Everyone was talking about Iris and her sudden kidnapping. Many bot accounts tried to link me and Damian to this incident, but the fact that I was put in the hospital as well at the same time caused some confusion for people.
"At least my injury was good for something. But I do need to resolve the Iris case before it causes a mess. She will become a big blow to Rose."
I vividly recalled what had happened to me when I tried to follow Jenna. And one of these vivid memories was about the man with that familiar voice. He was the same man who helped Rose out.
So if I tracked down Iris, I would know who that man was as well.
After freshening up and checking my social media accounts, I decided to head down where Damian was.
He had a huge cup of coffee in front of him and his laptop on the table. He seemed to be working, but he immediately put it down once he saw me arrive.
"How are you feeling? Any dizziness?"
Damian asked, turning his whole attention toward me, and I quickly nodded.
"I am feeling fine now. There is no dizziness or anything like that...So, any news about Miss Iris yet?"
I asked, and Damian shook his head.
"Not yet. We are trying to find out more, but it genuinely feels like there is nothing we can find out about this at the moment...but don’t worry. The people who attacked you won’t be able to stay hidden for long."
Damian promised me, and I had a feeling he was pushing himself a little too hard. The dark circles under his eyes proved that.
"I am...glad that you are so enthusiastic to help me out, but maybe you should slow down a little? You will make yourself sick if you continue like this."
I told Damian, and he gave me an almost bothered look before he replied to me. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Don’t worry about me. I am working hard on this case because I have a feeling it is connected to something I was looking for as well."
For some reason, those words made me feel just a little bit bothered.
I knew that Damian was not playing games and he was helping me out because he had something to gain as well. But actually hearing about this...did not feel nice.
’Why am I feeling disappointment? I knew that Damian had personal stakes in all this already.’
