The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 38 - 0: Enchantress
Chapter 38: Chapter 038: Enchantress
"How much do you like me?" Adrian Desmond asked greedily. His dark eyes brimmed with tenderness and honeyed affection. What could be more delightful than the person he liked also saying she liked him?
"Very much, very much."
She expressed her affection with actions, cupping Adrian’s face and pressing a kiss to his lips. This was Sienna Johnson’s first time responding to his feelings, and Adrian was overjoyed.
"Really?"
"Fake!"
Adrian’s smile froze instantly. Sienna chuckled, poked his forehead, and teased, "Just kidding, you fool!"
"You little rascal! Just you wait, I’ll teach you a lesson!"
Adrian started tickling her. Sienna, who was ticklish, dodged and laughed until she was out of breath. Her face turned as red as a ripe apple, and Adrian, seeing it, couldn’t resist taking a bite.
"MMPH..."
...
On the deck, Xavier Young watched Adrian, utterly besotted with the woman and practically floating as he walked, his displeasure with Sienna growing.
Enchantress!
Xavier watched Adrian lead Sienna to see the sunset over the sea, then spat on the ground and said angrily, "I never thought Sixth Master would be such a weakling, practically weak at the knees when he sees a woman."
Hearing this, Maxwell Young kicked his brother and scolded, "What nonsense are you talking? Sixth Master’s affairs are none of your business to manage."
"My mouth is my own, damn it! I’ll say what I want; who can control me?"
Maxwell glanced at Adrian, who happened to look their way. Maxwell then grabbed his brother’s collar, dragging him toward the cabin. "If you keep talking recklessly, you’ll lose your life sooner or later!"
Xavier struggled, unconvinced. "Why can’t I speak? If Sixth Master does something wrong, am I not allowed to say so?"
Maxwell, infuriated by his blockheaded younger brother, kicked him again and admonished, "Who Sixth Master likes is his business. Are you his father; can you control him? Even Sixth Master’s own father, if he were alive, probably couldn’t control Sixth Master."
"She killed Jasper!" Xavier was deeply resentful about this, his eyes red, his face a mask of grief and anger. "It’s all because of this damned woman! If she hadn’t escaped and stirred up so much trouble, Jasper wouldn’t have died!"
Maxwell put an arm around his brother’s shoulders, patting him comfortingly. "...Our lives belong to Sixth Master! He has given us wealth and glory, so naturally, we must repay him, even if it means giving our lives!"
"Yes! Our lives belong to Sixth Master! But not to that vixen! Look at what Sixth Master has become since that woman arrived. If I had known, I never should have saved her in the first place."
When Sienna had first called for help, it was actually Maxwell who had discovered her and brought her onto the ship. Maxwell now regretted it deeply. He stubbornly thought that if he hadn’t saved this woman, Jasper wouldn’t have died. He hated Sienna, and he also blamed himself.
"No one wanted this to happen. Don’t dwell on it. Just let it all... pass!" Maxwell said, his voice heavy.
On this mission, they had lost five men. One was Xavier’s good buddy, Jasper, and two were his own apprentices whom he had personally trained. Maxwell’s heartache was no less than anyone else’s.
"Brother, Jasper’s son is only a year old!"
Maxwell didn’t know what to say. "We will take good care of Jasper’s son. From now on, Jasper’s son will be our son!"
Xavier wiped his red, teary eyes, pushed his brother away, and strode off.
SIGH... Maxwell watched his impulsive younger brother, deeply worried for him.
...
The ocean was beautiful. Whether at sunset or under a canopy of stars, it was always a magnificent tapestry. The calm sea mirrored the countless stars above, and their boat was reflected on its surface too.
"I never imagined the ocean under a starry sky could be this beautiful!"
Adrian held her from behind. His broad embrace radiated warmth, forming a protective circle around her with her at its center—a sanctuary. The light and heat from him could dry every bit of dampness on her. As long as he was behind her, she felt secure.
"The sea breeze is a bit strong. Are you cold?"
Sienna shook her head. Enveloped in Adrian’s warm embrace, she didn’t feel cold at all, even with the sea breeze blowing.
"This is the first time I’ve seen such a beautiful ocean..." Her state of mind had changed, and now Sienna found beauty in everything she saw.
"In my eyes, you are even more beautiful," he said, his sweet words captivating Sienna’s heart. She turned her head, her smile like a blooming flower, and asked, "If I were ugly, would you not have saved me back then?"
"What do you think?"
"You’re so lecherous! If I were ugly, you’d definitely have thrown me into the sea to feed the sharks." Adrian was truly capable of such a thing, and Sienna felt a wave of indignation. "When you say you love me, it doesn’t really mean that much. Serving a man with looks means love fades when beauty declines. When I’m old and ugly, you won’t like me anymore."
Adrian chuckled, his chest vibrating against her back. Sienna said, "A heart for a heart. If you ever stop loving me one day, I won’t love you either!"
"You dare!"
She dared!
"AH!" A fish suddenly flew towards them. Adrian swiftly pulled her into an embrace as the flying fish landed on the deck, thrashing about. Sienna saw the wings on its back, like delicate cicada wings, and exclaimed in delight, "Is this a flying fish?"
"Yes, it’s a flying fish."
As soon as he finished speaking, more flying fish appeared on the sea’s surface. The color of their backs was close to that of the seawater, and they moved in schools near the surface, flitting in and out of view. On the deep blue expanse of the sea, the sight of these fish breaking through the waves was truly spectacular.
Sienna said excitedly, "It’s just like the scene in ’Life of Pi’... No! Even more beautiful!"
"What?"
"’Life of Pi’!" Seeing Adrian’s puzzled expression, Sienna explained, "It’s a movie directed by Ang Lee. The cinematography is incredibly beautiful."
"Is that so?"
"When we get back, let’s watch it together."
"Okay!"
The spectacular display of flying fish lasted for a full half hour before the sea surface returned to tranquility. Sienna watched, her heart soaring, but suddenly her smile froze.
Adrian felt her body suddenly stiffen and asked alertly, "What’s wrong? Are you cold?"
Sienna’s voice also grew subdued. Head bowed, she said, "Yes, I’m a little... cold, and also a bit... tired. I... I want to go rest."
"Alright, let’s go." Adrian took Sienna’s hand and led her toward the cabin. With every step, Sienna felt like the little mermaid princess who had traded her beautiful voice to the sea witch for human legs, each footfall like treading on sharp knives. She was in agony, her heart pounding with fear. Beneath her was an abyss; if she couldn’t bear the pain and slipped from the blades, she would fall into a hell of eternal damnation.
