Chapter 574: Chapter 615: Secret Base

Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, I am Sienna Johnson, your daughter-in-law. I will strive to be a good wife, take good care of Adrian Desmond, and make him happy.

Sienna Johnson made this promise to them in her heart.

After paying their respects, they didn’t return immediately. Adrian Desmond led them to a place resembling a Military Base. The perimeter was enclosed by electrified barbed wire. Inside was a base teeming with men, reminding Sienna Johnson of the ship full of shirtless men she had encountered when Adrian Desmond first rescued her from the sea.

"What is this place?" Sienna asked curiously.

"A base I built," he answered simply.

Adrian Desmond’s arrival had already been announced. A fierce-looking man, accompanied by a few others, walked over. Upon seeing Adrian Desmond, a flash of surprise crossed the man’s eyes.

"Sixth Master!" A brawny, square-faced man strode towards Adrian Desmond.

"Sixth Master..." The men trailing behind him also bowed their heads in respectful greeting.

"It’s nothing important. I was just passing by and thought I’d take a look."

Curly blinked, watching the people training. They ranged from young children to men in their twenties. Her gaze remained fixed on a little boy, about her own age, learning martial arts with a coach.

A burly man in a camouflage suit escorted Adrian Desmond and the others into a three-story building. Adrian Desmond took the main seat, with Sienna and Paige Desmond on either side of him. Curly sat in her father’s arms, looking around with a curious expression.

"Sixth Master, we’ve brought in over a hundred orphans from around the world this time," said Yul, the man in charge of the base. "They’ve been training for six months, and several show excellent aptitude. Are you looking for a playmate for the little miss?"

Adrian Desmond glanced at his daughter, stroking her head affectionately. "Bring them in for us to see."

"Yes, sir."

Yul gestured to a subordinate, who then left to fetch the children.

Sienna Johnson didn’t understand what was happening but sensibly remained silent. After all, she knew Adrian Desmond would never harm them.

After a while, ten young boys entered the room. They were of various ethnicities and ranged in age from five to ten. Sienna Johnson couldn’t help but wonder if Adrian Desmond was involved in human trafficking.

"This is Connie," Yul said, gesturing to a little boy beside him. "He’s eight years old, and I trained him personally. He’s an excellent shot, and his close quarter combat skills are also good."

The people here were all destined for combat. Therefore, they valued practical martial arts techniques like grappling and close quarter combat over showy ones such as karate. Muay Thai was considered the perfect combination of grappling and close quarter combat. However, Muay Thai was excessively brutal and thus not well-received by the people of the Orienta.

Sienna Johnson also looked at the boy named Connie. He was very handsome, but his eyes were devoid of emotion, like a robot that only executes commands. A pang of pity stirred in Sienna Johnson’s heart. She wondered if Adrian Desmond had been like this when he was young. As she turned to look at the sharp-eyed man sitting there, a flicker of pain showed in her eyes.

"Curly, do you like him?" Adrian asked.

"A brother?"

"He’s not your brother. He’s your toy, your servant!"

This base was where Adrian Desmond trained his bodyguards. Everyone here was an orphan. Raising them from a young age, without family ties, was a more effective way to cultivate loyalty. After they grew up and completed their training, they were required to work for Adrian Desmond for ten years. Upon leaving, Adrian Desmond would give them one million Westorian Dollars.

"He *is* a big brother!" Curly’s clear voice echoed through the room, reaching everyone’s ears.

Yul chuckled. "Miss, you shouldn’t be too kind to servants. Otherwise, they might not learn gratitude."

"He *is* a brother!" Curly glared at Yul. In her anger, she bore a slight resemblance to Adrian Desmond. Yul’s smile stiffened; he knew this little girl was not someone he could afford to provoke.

"Let him stay," Adrian Desmond said, pointing at Connie. His demeanor was like that of a father choosing a large toy for his daughter.

"What about the others?" Yul asked.

"One is enough."

Yul led the other boys away, leaving only Connie in the room. Connie remained silent, as if mute. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"Curly, let him give you a tour of the base," Adrian said. "You’ve always liked guns, haven’t you? Let him help you pick one out."

"Really?"

Sienna Johnson hadn’t expected Adrian Desmond to let their daughter play with guns. "Adrian! She’s still a child," she interjected.

"It’ll be fine."

With Adrian Desmond’s subordinates present, Sienna couldn’t argue and cause him to lose face. She decided she would address it with him when they were alone.

Curly slid off her father’s lap and walked towards Connie. Her soft little hand took his. Both of them frowned slightly at the contact. One hand was incredibly soft, while the other was callused and very hard.

"Big brother, let’s go! You can help me choose a gun, a really, really powerful one!"

Connie glanced at Yul. After Yul nodded, Connie emotionlessly led Curly away.

As a mother, Sienna Johnson was worried. "Curly," she cautioned, "there might be wild animals here. Don’t run off, or they might eat you."

"Okay, Mom. You’re such a worrywart."

Dismissed again. Sienna thought.

Adrian Desmond said to Sienna Johnson, "You must be tired. Go to your room and rest. We’ll leave after you wake up."

"Okay." Sienna Johnson sensed that Adrian Desmond had important matters to discuss, so she rose to leave. Before departing, she glanced at Paige Desmond, a thought crossing her mind: Is there something she can hear that I can’t?

"Madam, this way, please."

A young man in a camouflage suit, his skin tanned dark by the sun, led the way. Sienna Johnson followed quietly, observing the base hidden deep in the Forest. They went to another four-story building, climbing the stairs to the top floor.

"Madam, please come in."

"Thank you."

Sienna Johnson pushed the door open and entered. She found an elegantly decorated suite. It was unimaginable to find such a modernly decorated space in such a primitive location. Sienna Johnson looked around, her curiosity piqued.

She and Adrian Desmond had been entangled for many years, yet she didn’t truly know much about him. For instance, she had no idea how many businesses he owned, how wealthy he was, or about mysterious places like this base.

Sienna Johnson walked around the room, examining the small ornaments. A picture frame sat on a table. She walked over, picked it up, and looked at the group photo inside. Her face immediately fell.
