Chapter 578: Chapter 619: Sister-in-law persuades younger sister-in-law to divorce

On the other end of the phone line, her drunken laughter made Kiya’s stomach churn with anger. As a Princess Consort, she shouldn’t be so unrestrained.

"My Princess Consort, where are you? I’ll send someone to pick you up!" Kiya suppressed his anger and said calmly.

"Kiya, I want to divorce you!" Empowered by the alcohol, Paige bravely spoke her mind.

"You’re drunk!"

His voice was laced with anger. In the past, Paige would have fallen silent immediately, but now, she had made up her mind. "Kiya, I really want a divorce! I may have had a few drinks, but I’m perfectly clear-headed."

Ever since he decided to marry the Princess of Pelindi, ever since he silently allowed the Queen Mother to take Dylan away, Paige had lost all hope in this man.

Kiya, however, acted as if he didn’t take her words seriously. "Princess Consort, you’re not a child anymore. How can you still be so willful? You are my Princess Consort, the Princess Consort of Abyanabad! Remember your station, restrain yourself, and never let me hear you utter those two words again."

His Princess Consort was still childlike, often throwing tantrums in his presence. But for his sake, she would control herself and strive to be an elegant and dignified Princess Consort.

"My brother has already agreed to our divorce. Please, let me take Dylan!"

Kiya couldn’t believe she genuinely wanted a divorce, yet she had brought up Dylan. Could she really be serious about divorcing him?

"What you’re saying will never happen!"

Kiya seethed. Not only had his Princess Consort stayed out all night, but she also wanted to divorce him. The Royal family of Abyanabad had never had a divorce.

"Goodbye, Kiya!"

Paige hung up. Her tone held a finality that struck panic into Kiya’s heart, leaving him uncertain.

"Princess Consort!"

Kiya stood motionless, gazing through the arched window at the flower garden below. It was still planted with geraniums, Paige’s favorite. She was, in fact, a lively girl. On sunny days, she loved taking Dylan to the garden to observe insects.

Dylan had even said, "When I grow up, I want to be an entomologist." Upon hearing this, the Queen Mother had berated Paige, accusing her of corrupting Dylan.

Dylan was the future Sultan of Abyanabad; his destiny, like Kiya’s, was not his to choose.

"Your Highness, will the Princess Consort return?" Oni asked, noticing the Prince had been standing there for a long time without moving.

"Leave!" he commanded icily. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Yes, Your Highness."

The ornate, towering white doors closed, shutting away the solitary figure. The Imperial Palace was immense, yet so empty it felt as if one’s heart had no place to rest.

Paige had once said that this place was a beautiful prison, and he, she, and Dylan were all its prisoners.

My Princess Consort, are you trying to break free?

「...」

At the base, a bonfire blazed, and a crowd had gathered, reveling. A wild boar roasted on a spit over the flames, its fat dripping and sizzling as it hit the fire. The entire base was exceptionally lively.

However, the guards on the perimeter remained on high alert, vigilant against any surprise attacks while the others celebrated.

"Sienna, wasn’t I amazing? I told Kiya I want a divorce!" Paige, flushed and giddy from the alcohol, exclaimed.

If not for her pregnancy, Sienna would have eagerly joined Paige—with whom she had felt an instant connection—for a drink. As it was, she could only sip coconut juice.

Sienna gave Paige a thumbs-up.

Initially, Sienna had felt some reservation towards the Princess Consort, but upon getting to know her, she discovered Paige was a wonderful person—far more likable than her own brother, Adrian.

"Sienna, I’m not wrong, am I? What I did was right, wasn’t it?"

Paige had grown up in Abyanabad. Though rebellious, a timid part of her soul remained shackled by tradition.

It took immense courage to defy entrenched customs, especially for someone of her standing—the Princess Consort of Abyanabad.

"Paige, you’re absolutely right. He’s planning to marry someone else; he has already betrayed your love. He knew how much you adore Dylan, yet he allowed the Queen Mother to take your child. What’s the point of staying with a man like that?"

Paige and Kiya’s relationship was marred by a third party and a difficult mother-in-law.

The overbearing Queen Mother, deeming Paige unfit to raise Dylan, had taken the child to raise herself. Paige, his mother, was permitted to see him only once a month, for no more than an hour each time.

Sienna fumed as she listened. Even if Paige got divorced and didn’t get custody, the visitation rights shouldn’t be this short! Only an hour a month? Is she visiting him in prison?

"Just drop it, alright?"

Adrian had no desire for his sister to divorce. Besides, the likelihood of Paige and Kiya divorcing was minuscule. It was better not to give her false hope.

Emboldened by the alcohol, Paige jabbed a finger at Adrian. "Brother, you’re a rotten man too!"

"Insolent!" Adrian snapped.

Their father had died young, and Adrian had raised Paige. In her eyes, he was not just a brother but also a father figure. So, when Adrian reprimanded her, Paige felt a pang of fear.

She shrank behind Sienna, not daring to say another word. Sienna shot a knowing glance at the incorrigible man beside her but held her tongue.

His subordinates were all around them. In front of outsiders, Sienna still had to preserve Adrian’s dignity.

In Abyanabad, women held a low status. If she disrespected Adrian then, he might lose his standing with his subordinates.

"She’s drunk. I’ll take her to rest," Sienna said gently. She then rose, took Paige’s arm, and their two beautiful figures disappeared from Adrian’s sight.

Adrian felt uneasy but couldn’t abandon his men to follow them. He subtly signaled Brett Jacobs to keep an eye on them.

The Bamboo Stilt House reminded Sienna of the dwellings of ethnic minorities she had seen during her travels in Yuntona, Orienta. They slipped off their shoes and went upstairs barefoot.

Sienna held Paige’s hand as Paige wept silently.

Inside Paige’s room, Sienna wrung out a damp towel and handed it to her. "Here, wipe your face. Your makeup is smudged..."

"Sienna, I can’t bear it anymore..."

The two had hit it off immediately. Paige soon stopped calling Sienna ’Sister-in-law’ and used her first name instead, as if they were the closest of friends.

"Your brother has a sharp tongue; don’t take what he says to heart. You’re his most beloved sister; he’s just worried about you."

"I know. He’s my brother. After our parents passed away, he raised me. I know he opposes my divorcing Kiya, but I just can’t be with Kiya anymore..."
