The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 583 - 624: Miss Giving Orders
"Didn’t you hear me? I said, don’t touch him!" Held in her father’s arms, Curly yelled at the man grabbing Connie.
However, at the base, everyone only obeyed Adrian Desmond’s orders.
So, the poor man, being berated by the young miss, looked at Adrian Desmond with a troubled expression, waiting for him to issue another command. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Sienna Johnson looked at Connie, the sickening crack of breaking bone she’d heard earlier echoing in her mind. Curly had been bitten, and in her panic, Sienna had forgotten Connie might also be injured.
"Connie, let me see your arm."
"No, I’m... I’m fine..." Connie refused to let Sienna Johnson touch him. Seeing the blood at the corner of his mouth, her heart ached. "I’m a doctor. Be good and let me see."
Curly stopped crying, struggled out of her father’s arms, and came to Connie’s side. Seeing Connie’s condition, she felt too guilty to look at him.
"Your arm is broken," Sienna Johnson diagnosed softly after examining him.
"Mommy, what do we do if his arm is broken?" Curly asked anxiously.
"We need to bandage and immobilize the broken arm. It will heal slowly with rest."
Sienna Johnson called over the doctor to treat Connie’s broken arm. Treating fractures was far more routine than snakebites at the base; hardly a day passed without a few broken bones.
"Brother, does it hurt?" Curly asked softly, squatting beside him.
Connie looked at Curly, smiled, and then shook his head.
Throughout the bandaging, Connie’s expression remained placid, as if the broken arm belonged to someone else. Even when pain flared, he didn’t so much as frown.
Sienna Johnson gently stroked Connie’s head, a twinge of pain in her heart. She knew all the children at the base were orphans. Connie’s parents were gone, for reasons unknown. He was still so young, yet he endured inhumane training daily, unable to live a normal child’s life.
The doctor bandaged Connie’s broken right arm, put it in a sling around his neck, and instructed him not to move it. Connie nodded gently in response.
Curly looked at the doctor and asked, "Grandpa, why did you bandage Brother, but not me?"
Grandpa? The doctor was crying inwardly. He was only in his thirties; how had he become a grandpa?
"I’m not your grandpa, I’m your uncle."
Curly tilted her head, clearly skeptical. Sienna Johnson observed the doctor. He had quite a few white hairs, balding patches, and wrinkles on his face. Indeed, he looked quite old for his age.
"Alright then, Uncle," Curly conceded reluctantly.
"Curly, we should be heading home."
"Mommy, Curly got hurt! A snake bit a big hole in me! I need to be bandaged too!" Curly showed her mother the snake bite mark. Sienna Johnson was left speechless.
"Your tiny wound doesn’t need bandaging, okay?"
"I want to be bandaged!"
"..."
"I want to be like Brother and have my arm wrapped in gauze!"
Adrian Desmond walked over and told the doctor, "If she wants you to bandage her, just do it!" His indulgence of his daughter left everyone speechless.
Sienna Johnson explained to Adrian Desmond from a professional perspective, "Her wound doesn’t need bandaging at all. Besides, bandaging it might hinder its healing... Curly, your mommy is a doctor, don’t you trust what your mommy says?"
"I want to be bandaged!"
"Fine, but we’ll only keep it on for one day, alright? We’ll unwrap it before you go to bed tonight," Adrian Desmond negotiated with his daughter. Curly nodded in satisfaction.
The doctor was speechless but couldn’t object. He resignedly bandaged Curly’s arm. Bandages were consumed quickly at the base. Is this kind of wastefulness really okay?
In the end, Curly’s arm was wrapped in bandages. The smug little Curly even had her mother tie an elaborate butterfly knot on it. Only then was she content and stopped fussing.
Before boarding the plane, Sienna Johnson and Curly insisted on bringing Connie with them, but Adrian Desmond strongly opposed.
"...his arm is injured; he’s just a burden now. He can’t protect Curly if he comes with us. I don’t support idlers," Adrian Desmond stated coldly.
"What if I pay for his expenses myself?" Sienna Johnson countered.
Adrian Desmond scoffed. "Do you know how many orphans there are at this base?"
"..."
"Over 1.5 thousand! I’m not running an orphanage. I take care of them, train them, expecting them to earn money for me in return! This child... if he can’t survive to the day he makes money for me, dying early would save me some expenses!"
"..."
"President Johnson, you seem quite wealthy. Why not take all 1.5 thousand orphans home and raise them?"
"I can’t possibly afford to take care of that many children."
"Sienna Johnson, you’re in Abyanabad now. Drop your saint-like attitude, or you’ll die without even knowing how," Adrian Desmond warned Sienna Johnson severely.
Since many people were watching, Sienna Johnson didn’t want to argue with him. She said softly, "I just feel sorry for him, and the conditions here don’t seem that great. He was injured because of Curly, after all. I feel responsible, and Curly likes him. So, during our stay in Abyanabad, please let him stay with Curly and play with her, okay?"
Curly also clung to Adrian Desmond’s leg, tilting her small head back and pleading, "Daddy, please take Brother with us. I like playing with Brother. I won’t be naughty anymore, and I won’t climb trees again. Please don’t be mad at me."
Adrian Desmond looked at his daughter, his expression softened, and he smiled at her. "You little imp, when have I ever been angry with you?"
"Then take Brother with us too, Daddy. Curly likes Brother."
Adrian Desmond was powerless against his daughter’s wheedling. When her father didn’t relent, Curly resorted to threats, "Daddy, if you don’t bring Brother home with us, I’ll cry... I’ll really cry, you know..."
"..."
"I’ll cry for a very long time... I’ll keep crying and crying, you know..."
Adrian Desmond looked down at his daughter clinging to his leg. She pouted, her big, watery eyes brimming like a reservoir about to burst. If he didn’t agree quickly, she’d unleash a torrent of tears and create a huge scene.
"Your mother bullies me, and now you’re bullying me too..." He pinched her little nose, then scooped her up. Turning to Connie, he barked, "What are you standing there for? Get moving!"
"Yes, sir!" Connie obeyed.
Obedience was the first thing everyone learned at the base. Even an order to die had to be obeyed absolutely and unconditionally.
Perched on her father’s shoulder, Curly made a face at Connie. Despite his usual stoicism, Connie couldn’t help but crack a smile.
"Curly, look, because you were naughty, Brother got hurt. You can’t be this naughty again, understand?" Sienna Johnson wasn’t about to let her daughter off the hook so easily.
"Mommy, Curly knows she was wrong."
"That’s my good girl." Sienna Johnson stroked her head, praising her.
They all boarded the helicopter, leaving behind this place that was like a paradise hidden from the world.
