The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 600 - 641: Sixth Master Worries About Being Poisoned to Death by His Wife
Five years ago, Little Ninth was still lean from his youth, but now he had filled out, his body developing more horizontally.
"You’ve gained weight?"
The smile on Little Ninth’s face vanished. He looked at Adrian Desmond with a mournful expression, clearly aggrieved. Adrian patted Little Ninth’s shoulder and said, "Sienna says you’ve gained weight. You’d better start losing it. Otherwise, if you encounter enemies, you won’t even be able to run."
"Sixth Brother!"
"Has Curly arrived?" Adrian Desmond asked Tatu.
"They’re already here. Maple is taking care of them," Tatu answered.
"Take good care of them!"
"Yes!"
Adrian Desmond took Sienna Johnson’s hand and led her towards the island’s main villa. Sienna’s gaze swept around; everything here was just as she remembered, unchanged, as if time had stopped.
"Where’s my Black Beauty?"
That meadow... In her memory, there should have been a beautiful black horse there, but it was gone now.
"What Black Beauty?"
"My horse. The noble horse you gave me," Sienna Johnson explained.
Black Beauty was a horse Adrian Desmond had given her, a stunningly black, glossy horse whose mane had a wave to it, like a woman’s long hair. It looked beautiful when it ran.
Back then, Sienna Johnson would often ride Black Beauty, galloping around the island.
"Slaughtered!"
Sienna Johnson didn’t believe him. "You’re lying to me again! I don’t believe it. Tell me, where did you hide my Black Beauty?"
He had also said he’d destroyed her yacht, but it was still intact. She couldn’t believe he had really slaughtered her Black Beauty. After all, Black Beauty had originally been Adrian’s horse, and Adrian himself had loved it. When he wasn’t busy, he would even take Black Beauty to the creek to bathe it. Black Beauty later became her horse and had even gone through a temperamental phase.
"I’m not lying this time. I really did slaughter it."
"You can’t be serious?"
"..."
"Adrian, did you really slaughter my Black Beauty?" Sienna Johnson looked at him, her expression filled with heartache and resentment.
Adrian Desmond’s gaze turned cold as he looked at her. "I thought you didn’t want it anymore, so I slaughtered it."
"Adrian, that’s displaced anger, don’t you understand? What did Black Beauty have to do with anything? Why take your anger out on it?"
"I should have been angry with you, but where were you?"
"WOOF WOOF..." Suddenly, barking erupted. Sienna Johnson looked over and saw it was coming from the direction of the old kennels. She remembered this place well; Adrian Desmond used to keep his Tibetan Mastiffs locked up here during the day.
"Didn’t you say you’re raising Tosa dogs from Raelnia now? That they’re even fiercer than Tibetan Mastiffs! I want to go see just how fierce they are."
Sienna Johnson headed towards the kennels, Adrian Desmond following with a frown.
"Sixth Master." A man by the kennels, seeing Adrian Desmond, put down the hook he was holding and greeted him respectfully.
"This is Madam," Adrian Desmond introduced.
"Hello, Madam. My name is Manan, and I’m in charge of raising the dogs," Manan said respectfully.
"Hello," Sienna Johnson replied with a smile.
As they approached the kennels, the scent of a stranger—Sienna—made more than a dozen Tosa dogs bare their fangs, snarling and roaring ferociously, their bodies leaning forward in an attack stance.
"They’re so ugly."
As if the Tosa dogs could understand Sienna Johnson’s words, their howls grew even fiercer.
It was feeding time. Manan was using a hook to lift a large piece of pork belly and toss it into a kennel. "I’ll feed them!" Sienna Johnson declared, also using a hook to snag a piece of bloody meat and hurl it into one of the enclosures.
"Good doggies, eat your meat now," Sienna Johnson cooed, her tone like she was coaxing children.
Adrian Desmond said, "Watch them closely! If any dog dares to eat that meat, shoot it dead! I don’t raise disloyal dogs!"
"Yes, Sixth Master!"
Upon receiving Adrian Desmond’s orders, Manan stood before the kennels, his eyes fixed on the dogs inside. The dogs seemed to disdain the meat Sienna Johnson had thrown in; they merely glanced at her before resuming their roaring.
"Not eating? Looks like you’re not hungry enough. Starve them for a few days, and they’ll eat anything," Sienna Johnson said, clapping her hands together.
Adrian Desmond looked at the woman before him. He remembered how she had poisoned his Tibetan Mastiffs years ago. Those mastiffs had been specially trained not to eat food given by strangers. So how had Sienna managed to feed them poison?
"How did you poison those Tibetan Mastiffs back then?"
"Simple. With poison."
"I know it was poison. Those Tibetan Mastiffs had a keen sense of smell. How did you get them to ingest the poison?"
Sienna Johnson pulled Adrian Desmond’s hand, leading him to a small earthen slope. Lifting her skirt slightly, she bent down and searched for a moment before spotting a plant with yellow flowers. She crouched and carefully uprooted it, soil clinging to its roots.
"This is gelsemium. A beautiful name, isn’t it? It has another name too: Brokenheart grass. It’s highly toxic."
Sienna Johnson showed it to Adrian Desmond. When he heard it was poisonous, he slapped it out of her hand. "It’s poisonous, and you’re touching it? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Sienna Johnson laughed. "As long as you don’t ingest it, it’s fine."
Adrian Desmond scowled. "How many poisonous plants like this are on my island?"
"Lots..."
"Tell Little Ninth later. I want them all removed."
"Why?"
"Who knows? If I offend you someday, you might decide to poison me!" Adrian Desmond said, his face grim.
Sienna Johnson looked at him and laughed. Adrian Desmond was so exasperated with her he could barely speak. "You’re still laughing?"
"All things in nature counterbalance each other. Near every poisonous plant, there’s usually an herb that can act as an antidote, so poisonous plants themselves aren’t that frightening. Besides, some poisonous plants can also be used in medicine. For example, this Brokenheart grass can be used to dispel wind and counteract toxins, reduce swelling, and relieve pain..."
"..."
"Instead of worrying that I’ll poison you, you should probably focus on not doing things that would make me want to."
"..."
"It’s not just overt poisons that can kill. Even foods that are harmless on their own can become lethal if combined incorrectly and consumed over a long period."
"It seems I really can’t afford to offend you. Otherwise, I might not even know how I died."
"Sixth Master, what are you afraid of? I barely have enough time to love you, let alone poison you. You’re overthinking things."
Sienna’s gaze swept across the horizon, then quickly fixed on the island nearest to Unnamed Island. It was teeming with birds, black ones. Judging by their calls, they sounded like swallows.
Sienna Johnson wasn’t sure, so she asked, "That island over there... it’s full of birds. They look like swallows, don’t they?"
Following her gaze, Adrian Desmond looked towards Swallow Island and explained, "That’s Swallow Island. There are many swiftlets there. When I bought Unnamed Island, that smaller island was included in the deal. It’s quite useless, really—entirely covered in swallows."
"It’s June..." she murmured, her eyes shining as she gazed at Swallow Island. Adrian Desmond, however, was puzzled. It was just a small, worthless island. What was she so excited about?
"It’s June. So what?"
"It’s when swallows build their nests."
