The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress-Chapter 638 - 679: 18 Wives and Concubines
Dan Taylor loved beautiful things, especially beautiful women. That’s why he married eighteen stunning wives, each with different charms. However, having several unattractive daughters in a row was a pain he could never get over in his life.
He could divorce a wife who became ugly, but if his daughter was ugly, he had no choice but to swallow the bitter pill. As beastly as he could be, he couldn’t bring himself to abandon his own children.
"Adrian, you’ve bullied me since we were kids, and you still do it now that we’re grown up! Were you my concubine in a past life? Did I play with your heart and then abandon you, so now you’re back in this life for revenge?" Dan Taylor said sarcastically.
The onlookers shook their heads at Dan Taylor’s audacity. Didn’t he know Adrian Desmond was not to be trifled with? He was simply courting death.
Adrian Desmond kicked Dan Taylor again. No one stepped in to help. It wasn’t due to a lack of brotherly affection; Dan Taylor was simply asking for it, as he always had been since they were young.
"Adrian, if you dare hit me again, just try it!"
When someone actively sought a beating, Adrian Desmond was happy to oblige. He was about to strike when Sienna Johnson, who was beside him, stopped him.
Sienna Johnson defused the fight with a single, gentle sentence: "I’m hungry."
Nothing was more important than his woman eating. Adrian Desmond let Dan Taylor off the hook that easily. "Come on, let’s go get some barbecue."
Adrian Desmond led Sienna Johnson away. Dan Taylor’s first wife walked over, helped him up, patted the dust off his clothes, and comforted him, "Does it hurt? I’ll give you a massage tonight."
"It doesn’t hurt. He barely kicked me. I knew he wouldn’t have the heart to truly hit me."
Adrian Desmond: I really want to beat him up again.
...
Most of the guests were acquaintances. Although Sienna Johnson wasn’t very familiar with them, she recognized their faces and remembered them.
Those with families had brought them along, and there were many children. Watching the kids playing in the courtyard, Sienna Johnson couldn’t help but think of her daughter.
Curly was angry and wasn’t answering her calls.
The little girl wasn’t old, but she certainly had a temper.
Thinking that she would be able to see their daughter tomorrow made Sienna Johnson very happy. When they headed back later, she would stop by a store to buy Curly some gifts to coax her.
"Hello, my name is Deanne. I am Edward’s first wife."
"Hello, I’m Sienna Johnson."
Men from Abyanabad had an aesthetic similar to that of Orienta during the Tang Dynasty, prizing curvaceousness. It was about being full-figured, not fat. Deanne was indeed buxom, with ample breasts and full hips, making Sienna Johnson feel a bit embarrassed looking at her.
"I heard you have a beautiful daughter. Why didn’t you bring her?"
"She’s at home. We were already on our way when we received Mr. Taylor’s call, so we just came by."
"Edward still has a childlike personality. He had a sudden craving for barbecue today and invited everyone over," Deanne said, her tone clearly that of the principal wife.
Sienna Johnson’s gaze swept over the group of women, an assortment of beauties—some slender, some voluptuous. She guessed these were Dan Taylor’s eighteen wives. Following Sienna’s line of sight, Deanne explained, "Those are Edward’s women."
Sienna Johnson did a quick count. Although there weren’t eighteen, at least ten were present. Looking at each of these beauties, she couldn’t help but worry for Dan Taylor. To be surrounded by such stunning women and have to practice abstinence must truly be difficult.
Sienna Johnson asked, "Don’t you get jealous when your husband marries so many women?"
"It’s like this in Abyanabad, and Edward treats all of us very well," Deanne said with a smile.
Deanne exuded a peaceful, unworldly aura. It made Sienna Johnson think of the palace intrigue dramas she had watched, where concubines in the harem would fight to the death over one man.
Dan Taylor really had a way with them; at least, his wives appeared to get along quite amicably.
What Sienna Johnson didn’t know was that in Abyanabad, even if a man married fifteen wives, their status would be the same.
Moreover, each woman had her own house, and they didn’t usually live together. For instance, since Dan Taylor had eighteen wives, he had at least eighteen villas. If the first wife lived in a villa, the other wives had to live in villas too. If Dan Taylor gave his first wife a sports car, he had to give one to the other wives as well. It was no wonder that poor men truly couldn’t afford so many wives.
"If my husband had that many women, I’d kill them one by one, no doubt about it." Sienna Johnson made no effort to hide her jealousy. Deanne was visibly frightened by her words.
Sienna Johnson was unconcerned. It’s good if she’s frightened, she thought. Even better if word gets out. That way, any woman who dares to try and steal my man will have to seriously consider whether her own life is more important, or the man.
"Good thing we’re not interested in the same man!" Deanne joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Just as Sienna Johnson was curious about Dan Taylor’s wives, they were equally curious about her. After all, for a man like Adrian Desmond to be so thoroughly tamed by Sienna and remain loyal was not something an ordinary woman could achieve.
"So you’re Sienna Johnson?"
"And you are?"
"People call me Lisa..." the woman cooed.
Deanne informed Sienna Johnson aside that this was Dan Taylor’s twelfth wife.
Lisa wasn’t very old, probably just over twenty. She had a pure and innocent appearance, but the affected, cutesy way she spoke made Sienna Johnson uncomfortable.
"Hello, my name is Sienna Johnson."
Many women gathered around, startling Sienna Johnson. Luckily, Deanne was there to shield her. They stared at Sienna as if she were an alien from outer space.
"What method did you use to make Sixth Master marry only you?"
This was the question the women most wanted to ask, but Sienna Johnson genuinely didn’t know how to answer.
"Where I come from, we practice monogamy. A man can only marry one wife. Otherwise, it’s bigamy, and that’s punishable by imprisonment."
"But you married Sixth Master! How could Sixth Master possibly marry only you?"
"Why not?"
"Here, powerful and influential men always have many wives."
"Where I come from, even powerful and influential men have only one wife!"
She had no patience for the vile customs of Abyanabad men. If Adrian Desmond ever dared to so much as think about taking eighteen wives, she’d tie his manhood in a knot.
"You’re so fierce. How could any man like a woman like you?" Lisa commented.
"My husband happens to like my type."
The men were barbecuing. Seeing the other wives bustling about, bringing drinks to their husbands, Sienna Johnson felt awkward and unsure how to interact with these women. She seized the chance to escape by taking a drink to Adrian Desmond.
"Excuse me for a moment."
Sienna Johnson brought him an iced drink and helped wipe the sweat from his brow. Adrian Desmond sipped it, his lips twitching with obvious pleasure, but he deliberately maintained a cool facade. "Hmm, not bad," he said, his tone as nonchalant as the others. "You can go now."
"Those women are terrifying. I think I’d better stay by your side."
Adrian Desmond’s aura was too powerful; the other women didn’t dare to crowd around. It was much safer by his side.
