Chapter 293: Chapter 184: Do You Still Dare to Say You Haven’t Fallen in Love with Ning Wan?_2

Xi Mohan stood still, his tall and imposing figure exuding an overwhelming presence before Song Qiao. His eyes moved slightly as his gaze pierced through the glass panel on the door to glance inside the ward. He couldn’t actually see anything due to the angle, only a wall, but it was as though he saw the woman lying inside. His thin lips moved and in a deep voice that seemed to spill out from the depths of his throat, he asked, "How is she?"

Song Qiao frowned at the man before her, her impatience increasingly hard to contain. She responded coolly, "She’s fine. But Xi Mohan, you should know she doesn’t want to see you. If you could be a bit more compassionate, could you possibly stay away from her from now on?"

Xi Mohan’s eyes darkened but he did not speak, nor did he move.

Seeing Xi Mohan not react at all to her words, as if nothing she said could get through to him, Song Qiao felt exhausted to death and continued to speak indifferently, "Don’t you still have Ning Yan’er? Xi Mohan, since you chose Ning Yan’er in the beginning, stop tormenting Ning Wan. She’s not well, having just lost a three-month-old baby, and due to the car accident, her chances of wanting and having children in the future are slim. Even if her parents once owed the Xi Family so much, she has now paid it all back to you. She owes you nothing anymore."

Xi Mohan continued to stand, but his body stiffened the moment he heard Song Qiao’s words.

A chill began to spread from the soles of his feet throughout his body, making him feel as if he had fallen into an icy cave, with coldness assaulting him from all directions.

Fearing that Xi Mohan might enter the ward to disturb Ning Wan after she left, Song Qiao decided not to leave. Instead, she called Zhang’s mother to go back to prepare dinner for Grandfather and to bring some chicken soup to the hospital.

Upon hearing Ning Wan was hospitalized, Zhang’s mother was startled and quickly asked if anything had happened to Ning Wan. Song Qiao did not elaborate on the phone but did share with Zhang’s mother that Ning Wan had miscarried.

Zhang’s mother paused for a moment, feeling deep pity for Ning Wan. She had always liked Ning Wan very much, not only because she was the young lady’s close friend but more so because of her good nature and easy-going personality. Previously, she would often visit the old master and was very good to her, the servant. Every time she came to visit the old master in the hospital, she would not only bring his favorite food but also bring some of her own favorites.

As soon as Lu Jingchen finished work, he headed straight to the hospital. Before he left work, he had called Song Qiao, learned that she was at the hospital, and suggested picking her up to go home.

As he approached the ward, indeed, he saw the man standing in front of the ward door like a statue. His eyebrows slightly raised, he walked up to Xi Mohan, lips twitching into a smile as he said, "Don’t tell me you didn’t go to the office today and have been here all day?"

Xi Mohan looked up at the sound of Lu Jingchen’s voice, just glanced at him, then stood up straight and raised his hand to rub his brow. He didn’t deny it, simply hummed in acknowledgment.

Lu Jingchen chuckled, saying, "That must be tough for you. The person inside that room doesn’t want to see you and yet you’ve been here for so long. And I heard you didn’t go back to the villa last night. Were you at the hospital with her all night?"

Xi Mohan gave no reply, which was taken as an affirmation.

Lu Jingchen looked at him and hooked a smile, "Mo Han, can you still say you haven’t fallen for Ning Wan?"

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out another cigarette, lit it, and took a drag. The bluish-gray smoke clouded the air in front of him. After a while, he finally said, "Jingchen, you should know that Ning Wan and I will never be possible."

"Are you so sure about that right now? Possibilities are created by oneself."

Xi Mohan lowered his gaze to the floor, but curved his lips into a cold smile as he said, "It’s not just her child that she lost, but mine as well."

"I’m aware." Lu Jingchen had long guessed. The child Ning Wan was carrying could only be Xi Mohan’s—nobody else’s.

The child was over three months old, which perfectly matched the timeline of Xi Mohan’s return to the country and his forcible encounter with Ning Wan.

Unless Ning Wan had another man, but he felt he knew Ning Wan well enough to consider such a possibility almost nonexistent.

Xi Mohan didn’t look at Lu Jingchen, his gaze lost in the bluish-gray smoke as if trying to see something through it. After some time, just when Lu Jingchen thought the man would no longer speak, he finally said faintly, "This might be the only child I’ll ever have in this lifetime."

This might be the only child I’ll ever have in this lifetime...

The man’s words echoed slowly in the corridor, every syllable clearly entering Lu Jingchen’s ears.

Hearing this, Lu Jingchen felt a terrible possibility dawning on him and looked directly at Xi Mohan, saying, "I’m afraid I can’t understand what you mean by that. What about Ning Yan’er? By stating that so certainly, where do you place Yan’er?"

"I’m planning to call off our engagement." Before Lu Jingchen could finish, Xi Mohan had already snuffed out the cigarette in his hand and stated bluntly, "We’re not suitable for each other. She can find a better man. Staying with me would only be a waste of her time and youth."
