The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 323: It Was For You
"And by showing him around, do you mean my office?" Domenic seemed to have no plans about going easy on Emily, the way he was looking at her with accusing eyes was already enough to make her understand that.
"I..." Emily wasn’t really sure what to say anymore in her defense. In the past twenty or so minutes that she had spent in Nick’s office, she had tried on almost every excuse that she could think of. However, this was Domenic she was facing, not one of her other brothers who could be fooled by her cuteness or tricks.
"I will say it again, don’t be too harsh on my disciple. She only did what I told her to do because she couldn’t defy her master’s, or the Fae King’s, orders.
Emily spared a quick look between the two men who were glaring intensely at each other. The tension was so sharp between them that it almost felt suffocating. She just wished to get out of the office and away from these two hot-headed men.
A knock on the office’s door had all their attentions turning toward the man who entered the very next second.
"Shadow..."
"Shadow?"
"Shadow!"
All three of them spoke together but their emotions were completely different from one another. Emily just accepted his presence there but Domenic was clearly confused by Shadow’s appearance. As for the Fae King, he almost looked excited to see his friend.
"Sorry to disturb you all but I need to talk about something with her." Shadow stated while looking precisely at Domenic who just let out a sigh after a couple of seconds and nodded his head in agreement.
Emily didn’t waste even a second before she jumped up from her seat and ran toward her savior while giving her brother and the Fae King a small smile.
She literally grabbed Shadow’s arm and pulled the man out of the office and headed straight toward the elevator and it was only when she was safely inside the lift that she allowed herself to release the breath that she had been holding throughout the entire way.
"You are acting like you are really scared." Shadow commented as he pushed the button for the ground floor after the door closed.
Emily spared a quick look at the man as she asked in an accusing tone, "What do you mean by acting? I’m indeed scared of him. Who won’t be?"
Instead of responding verbally, Shadow decided to use another tactic as he just arched his eyebrows and stared at her with a look in his eyes that screamed loudly that he didn’t believe her even a little bit.
"You don’t seem to be believing me." She stated as she stared back into his beautiful amber eyes that seemed to be staring right into her soul.
Shadow suddenly stepped closer to her and only stopped when he was right in front of her with barely any space left between their bodies. He lowered his face and brought it closer to hers before he whispered next to her ear, "If you really have been afraid of your brother, Princess, you would have stepped back from this ’helping your brother to find his true happiness’ thing the very moment you realized that Domenic wasn’t happy with your involvement." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Emily just remained silent as she had nothing to say in her defense, especially when it was him of all people confronting her with straight out facts. He knew her way better than anyone else, even herself.
"Then... I should be thanking you for helping me out once again, something you are really good at." She finally managed to say as she looked up straight into his beautiful and intense eyes.
Shadow kept his gaze locked with hers as one of his hands moved behind him to click on the buttons... to stop the elevator somewhere between second and third floor.
"What is it?" She asked when the man took another step closer to her with a frown decorating his handsome face.
In response to her question, Shadow closed his eyes and the expression on his face seemed be like one of great concentration. He finally opened his eyes several long seconds later and then his gaze landed directly on her hands which made Emily also look at them to see if something was wrong.
"Why are you radiating such powerful fae energy... like some ancient magic?" Shadow finally asked, successfully pulling her attention back to him.
Emily let out a deep sigh as her body relaxed after realizing why the man was suddenly acting so weird. "Heavens, Shadow! You almost made me think that something was absolutely wrong with me."
The man didn’t say anything and just watched her with questioning eyes while waiting for her to answer his question.
Emily moved her open palm in front of her and summoned the dagger which immediately appeared with a bright golden light marking its appearance.
The sharp intake of breath from Shadow had her looking up at the man’s face only to find him staring at the dagger with a shocked expression. She was about to ask him if something was wrong but right at that moment, she felt the dagger reacting to his presence.
"What is it? Are you related to this dagger?" She asked while looking at Shadow with questioning eyes.
The man nodded his head slightly in response as his eyes refused to look away from the dagger. "I made it... a very long time ago..."
This time, it was Emily’s turn to gasp in surprise as hef eyes moved back to stare at the dagger in her hand. She knew it was no normal dagger the moment she laid her eyes on it as she could feel the immense amount of ancient power in it but nothing could have prepared her for such a revelation.
"Did you... gift it to the Fae King?" She asked after choosing her words wisely even though the first thought that appeared in her mind was more related to stealing rather than the dagger being a gift.
"No... It was for you...!"
