The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 327: The Secret of Sera’s Birth
Emily sat in silence as Shadow drove the car. She was so lost in her thoughts that she had no clue where they were heading. It was only when the car came to a sudden stop that she was pulled out of her thoughts.
She watched as Shadow climbed out of the driver’s seat before heading toward her side. The man opened the door with too much aggression before he unbuckled her seatbelt and pulled her outside.
"Shadow! What’s wrong?" She asked as she tried to pull her arm out of his tight grip. Thankfully, he let go of her hand immediately as if realizing that his hold was too tight.
"You should be the one telling me exactly what’s wrong, Princess." He said in response to her question, making confusion dawn over Emily’s face. "What do you mean?" She asked while looking around. They seemed to have stopped on a pretty much empty street with very few shops or houses nearby.
"Princess, you have been avoiding me throughout our ride. You didnt respond to anything that I said and barely looked at me. Is it because I stopped you from going to the meeting between the werewolves and the vampires? Is that why you are mad at me?" Shadow asked the questions directly without beating around the bush.
Emily remained silent for a while as she observed Shadow. Little did she know that he cared so much about her being upset with him. Letting out a small sigh, she stepped closer to the man and hugged him, clearly surprising him as he didn’t return the hug for quite some time, and by the time, he made the move, Emily was already pulling away.
"What was that?" He asked in confusion and it made a smile bloom on Emily’s lips. "Sometimes, you make me realize just how great of a treasure you are and that I should cherish you."
"Princess..." Shadow was definitely not expecting her to say something like that. The tips of his ears turned pink and there was a slight change in his expression as if he was feeling embarrassed.
Emily chuckled before she took hold of his hands in her own and spoke, "I’m being honest, Shadow. But to answer your questions..." She let her words hang in the air and watched as Shadow fixed his entire attention on her to hear what she was going to say next.
"... I’m not really mad at you. I did feel weird when you stopped me so harshly from joining the meeting but somehow I knew that you must have a reason. I was waiting to get a chance to confront you about that but I wasn’t angry at you because of that."
Shadow’s stiff shoulders relaxed immediately after the tension left his body. He nodded his head in understanding before asking, "Then why were you ignoring me?"
Emily shook her head in denial almost immediately, "I wasn’t! Or at least, not how you are thinking. I was just too lost in my thoughts that I probably didn’t notice you were saying something to me. I’m still wondering about the consequences of me taking the Fae King to Domenic’s office and also about this upcoming meeting."
Shadow finally returned to normal as he took over the role of being the helper and the one to always comfort others when needed. "Don’t worry about things that are out of your control. Things between your brother and Aleron are their personal matter to solve, we can just wish for a better result and wait. As for the meeting, I’m sure your brothers and Kaiden will be able to handle it properly."
"Are you not going to join the meeting?" Emily asked when she noticed that he didn’t count himself in the mix.
"Why should I?" Shadow asked with just as much surprise as she was feeling because of his response.
"What do you mean by why should you? Isn’t Sera a very important person in the vampire world? And you are the Supreme Lord of the Vampires, their great Sire. Shouldn’t you be present at such an important meeting?" Emily questioned.
Shadow let out a sigh as he shook his head before letting go of her hands and taking his position beside her with his back pressed against the car. This made Emily turn around to face him as she waited for him to answer.
"That girl is indeed quite important..." He finally confessed but the look that he gave her after speaking those few words made Emily realize that there was more coming that had nothing to do with these initial words. She was soon proved right about her guess.
"... but only to her family. It’s the truth that Vampires can’t have children and our race has accepted this truth over the centuries. In the case of Sera, it was her parents’ greed that made them seek a witch for help. And you know better than anyone else that seeking suck kind of help comes with a cost and her parents are paying it."
"What do you mean?" Emily had no idea about this part of Sera’s birth history and she wondered if Shane had any idea about it either or not.
"Sers wasn’t the only child born, she had a twin brother. There were actually two vampire borns." Shadow dropped the bomb that made Emily open her mouth and then lose it as she had no words coming out of her mouth for a while.
"You said ’had’. What happened to her brother?" She finally found a good enough question to ask after the initial shock of the revelation wore off.
"He was sacrificed in order for Sera to live an immortal life," Shadow answered simply with a little shrug of his shoulders as if he was talking about something so normal that had nothing to do with one of the biggest secrets of the vampires.
"What do you mean by sacrificed?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"Every unusual magic needs a payment, Princess, and for Sera, the first vampire born, to live a proper immortal life, she needed the sacrifice of someone with a similar fate as her. So, her parents sacrificed her twin brother. Since being a vampire born, the girl can also produce more vampire offspring, her parents decided that she was more useful than her brother. So, they chose her over their son." Shadow finally spilled the full beans, shocking the life out of Emily who was left dumbfounded by the revelation. The story just sounded absurd.
