The Broken Halo-Chapter 143: 75% Refinement
Simon stared at the seven floating black stars in his Sea of Consciousness, and his focus was on one of the black stars.
Right now, three of the seven black stars had runes engraved on them.
Fearless
Devour
And... Shadow Sense.
Just like he wanted.
If not for his blessing which increased his proficiency of Devour at a rapid rate, he would have honestly failed to obtain anything from Thorgan’s corpse.
’After devouring quite a few number of times, I’ve come to realize that there’s so much more to a demon and even a human’s body than what I know.’
’Devouring the physical attributes of a demon is easy, and devouring the demonic energy flowing through their body is also easy, but devouring things like skills, talents, affinities, and so much more is more difficult than normal.’
’It’s like a physical body has several layers in it, and the layer that holds a person’s skills is close to the surface, while things like affinities and talents are much deeper than a person’s skills.’
’But at the same time, it feels like all these things are not just stationary, but they can also move and try to avoid being devoured.’
’When I used Devour on Pellin, I noticed some of his skills, but I never tried to get them because they’re useless to me.’
’But as I recall that feeling, I can clearly remember that some of the skills seemed to move deeper and tried to hide the moment I sensed them. They didn’t want to get devoured.’
’So, maybe the skills and other attributes of demons with royal bloodlines have more awareness and are able to move more compared to the skills and attributes of demons with lower level bloodlines.’
Simon furrowed his brows as he stared at the rune of the Shadow Sense skill with a slight frown.
"Increasing the Shadow Sense skill should be a lot easier than Devour. And I might be able to evolve it or transform it to something else. I can feel it has an evolutionary path unlike Fearless and Devour."
Simon looked around his Sea of Consciousness before closing his eyes and opening them in the real world.
He looked at the ashes of Thorgan, then he released a sigh and sent the ashes into his spatial ring.
"Unfortunately, I couldn’t get his shadow manipulation skill or the shadow dimension skill. It would have helped a lot in cleaning up this mess."
Simon released another sigh, then he sat with his legs crossed on the floor.
’Of all the skills Thorgan had, the shadow manipulation skill was even far more difficult to obtain that even his affinity. I guess it’s even more valuable than I thought.’
’I was able to get the Shadow Sense skill because that was my goal and it was one of the easiest skills to get... Though not that easy actually.’
’But apart from Shadow Sense, I was lucky enough to get a portion of his shadow affinity. I have no idea what grade it is, but the most important thing now is that I now have a shadow affinity.’
There were several reasons why he was pleased to have gotten a portion of Thorgan’s shadow affinity.
The first was that it would elevate his value in the eyes of the clan even if his shadow affinity was at the low grade.
Very few demons in his class had shadow affinity, and the majority of his classmates had a different affinity other than shadow affinity. And for those that had shadow affinity before obtaining one in the class, they had a higher starting point, and their worth to the clan would increase, even if it was by a small amount.
Shadow Affinity was a rare affinity after all.
The second reason why Simon is pleased to have gotten shadow affinity is because it would help him to improve his proficiency in using Shadow Sense.
Even if he did not have Shadow Affinity, he would still be able to use Shadow Sense through the help of his Seven Stars Blessing.
But with a shadow affinity, it would make it easier for him to use Shadow Sense.
And the last reason why he is pleased to have a Shadow Affinity is because he could refine a portion of Thorgan’s demonic energy and make it his, which he could then use to refine his Chaos Flame.
In all the times he had used Devour on a demon, his heart rank had never increased, and that was for a reason.
The first is that he could not reach or even sense a demon’s Chaos Flame whenever he used Devour.
It was like a demon’s Chaos Flame was at a depth or in a place he would never be able to reach. In fact, he would never have known that Devour had the potential to consume a demon’s Chaos Flame if not for his Seven Stars Blessing which taught him more and more about Devour.
Although he could not devour a demon’s Chaos Flame with his current proficiency, he could consume the demonic energy in the body and even heart of a demon.
The Chaos Flame had a large portion of a demon’s demonic energy, but the heart and body also contained demonic energy.
Simon could devour this demonic energy and make it his, but he chose not to do because of one word.
Purity.
Demons could increase their heart rank by consuming another demon’s heart rank, and Simon could the same with Devour with even greater efficiency.
The amount of demonic energy a demon can get by consuming another demon’s heart could not be compared to what Simon would get if he devoured a demon’s heart with Devour.
However, if he did this, his demonic energy would not be pure because no demon had the same demonic energy.
If he absorbed Pellin’s demonic energy and refined it, he would be a Supreme Fiend by now.
But he chose not to.
Because Pellin’s demonic energy was different from his and even his affinity was of the earth element, not wind or space element.
And Simon knew that he would not be able to get Pellin’s earth affinity with his proficiency of Devour.
But after getting a portion of Thorgan’s shadow affinity, he could refine Thorgan’s demonic energy, make it his, then further refine his Chaos Flames.
After refining his Chaos Flame to 75%, he stopped and released the remaining demonic energy out of his body.
He exhaled deeply, then he opened his eyes.
"I have to stop here. It would be too suspicious if I suddenly advanced from Superior rank to Supreme rank in one night when I only have a Common Bloodline.
