The Broken Halo-Chapter 220: Sky Eye
From the three hundred feet mark to the four hundred feet mark, a thick grey fog was covering the cliff wall, and Simon kept on staring at the fog with a slightly baffled expression.
This was not the dark or lack of light where his innate night vision would work.
Once he enters the fog, his visibility would drop to about three to five meters.
He would barely be able to see, and this was a huge problem for him.
His wind affinity could not help him here, his high demonic energy control, and even his unique ocular technique could not help him here.
’I doubt the academy would be so cruel and would also choose to place dangers up there since it’s our first day. So, it should be relatively safe.’
’If I’m not wrong, we’re meant to take our time climbing this section. And maybe Instructor Sormon does not actually expect any one of us to reach this section.’
’And if he does, then I’m guessing that there should be a way to get through this mist. Maybe a technique... Unless we’re just meant to take it slow and steady.’
Simon swept his hand through his hair in annoyance.
He was not against taking his time to successfully get to the fifth section, but he also did not want to waste his time on something like this.
As far as he could see, there was no other demon on the floating platforms of the resting zone.
He was all alone.
Instructor Sormon would definitely not help him or guide him on how to reach the top.
’What would truly piss me off is if Sormon decides to end this cliff climbing training while I’m still climbing the cliff. I’m very certain that he’ll leave me and allow me to keep on climbing the cliff.’
’I have to either reach the end before the two hour mark, or I descend back to the ground.’
Simon groaned with even more frustration, then his eyes suddenly flashed as he had a thought.
"Maybe I can make some changes to my ocular technique and finally give it a name."
’But it’s not going to be easy and I’ll have to be careful. If I could create the ocular technique I used in my past life, that would be great, but I can’t.’
’I should be able to make some slight changes to my current ocular technique. Something that would increase my range of vision.’
Simon suddenly frowned as he thought of how dangerous it would be.
The eyes was an extremely delicate part of the body, and if he was not careful, he could permanently or temporarily blind himself.
’I know some ocular techniques of my past life, and some could increase the range of one’s vision, but their only applicable to humans. I should be able to take a few parts from those techniques, combine them with my current ocular technique and my innate cultivation technique I got after my Coming of Age Rite.’
’Alright. Let’s start. I’ll rather spend more time making improvements to my ocular technique than climbing a wall which would actually be useless to me very soon.’
Simon got into a meditative position, then he regulated his breathing and closed his eyes.
He began to circulate his demonic energy from demon heart, to his body, then to his eyes.
His mind recalled all the ocular techniques he knew, his innate cultivation technique, and the ocular technique he got from his Sky Tiger lineage.
’If I circulate it like this. Make this part slower. Intertwine. The speed is too much. The quantity of demonic energy is too much. I need to control it quickly.’
’... I failed.’
Blood fell on the platform from Simon’s closed eyes, but Simon left his eyes closed and did not make a sound as his eyes bled.
He used his sleeve to wipe away the blood, then he continued again.
He was not permanently or temporarily blind yet. He had only burst an artery in his eye.
’I think I’ve got it now.’
He tried one more time, and this time around...
He succeeded.
"Good."
Simon nodded with his eyes still closed.
’I just need to stabilize it and control the quantity of demonic energy required.’
A few minutes later, Simon had completely succeeded in creating his new ocular technique, and he opened his sky blue eyes that was stained with blood.
"Hmm... Not bad. A times two range of vision."
Simon nodded as he looked at his surroundings with his eyes glowing with a dark emerald-orange light.
"I think I’ll call this ocular technique Sky Eye since it originates from my Sky Tiger Bloodline."
The Sky Eye ocular technique was a technique that doubled his range of vision.
Previously, his normal vision only had a five kilometers range in clear conditions.
But Sky Eye doubled it to ten kilometers.
And obviously, that was not all.
Sky Eye could allow him to zoom his sight on a specific target, and he could see objects that were approximately six-seven kilometers away like they were right in front of him.
Simon looked up, and his sight pierced through the fog and even went beyond it.
The fog was no longer a hindrance, and he could now see what was in store for him for the fifth and final section.
And once again, what he saw, baffled him.
"Chains?"
Simon was absolutely flabbergasted, but he decided not to think about it.
He had spent far too much time climbing this damned wall, and he decided to reach the top before the others.
"At least the wall is not smooth but rough like the first section."
And just like that, Simon began his climb, and Instructor Sormon froze in disbelief as he watched climb through the dense fog, almost like it didn’t exist.
The fourth section that was meant to test the instinct, touch, spatial awareness, and patience of the Initiates was like a child’s playground to Simon.
"What in the world is happening?" Instructor Sormon mumbled in disbelief.
