Chapter 189: Stay And Marry Me

Xiao Nian shook his head. Wen Lan’s eyes were moved, and she sighed softly, seeing such a lovely child and such a good potential daughter-in-law. She wondered why her son couldn’t keep them, and she shot Tang Shuwen a frustrated glare.

Chen Xueru said, "I’m sorry to have disappointed you as well. If you wish to see Xiao Nian in the future, I’ll bring him to visit you."

Wen Lan was very reluctant to part with such an adorable child, but there was nothing she could do. Chen Xueru was determined to leave, and no one could persuade her.

Tang Shuwen suddenly seized Chen Xueru’s hand, forcefully dragging her upstairs, his expression grim. Wen Lan stood up and said, "Shuwen, what are you doing? Let go of Xueru."

Tang Shuwen ignored her, stubbornly pulling Chen Xueru upstairs.

Wen Lan started to follow, but Tang Si stopped her, saying, "Let them talk it out."

Xiao Nian sat on the sofa, staring blankly as Tang Shuwen roughly pulled Chen Xueru upstairs, murmuring "Mama." Tang Si hugged the child. "Honey, it’s okay. Daddy and Mommy are just discussing something. It’s fine."

Xiao Nian nodded.

Tang Shuwen pulled Chen Xueru into his room. She cautiously retreated. This wasn’t her first time in his room, but everything about it felt foreign to her.

Including Tang Shuwen himself, he was a stranger to her.

Tang Shuwen advanced steadily, and Chen Xueru retreated step by step until she could go no further. Tang Shuwen narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Why are you going back on your word?"

"I don’t think we’re suited to live together," Chen Xueru said coldly. "Tang Shuwen, I know I’m not the one you want to marry either. Why force yourself? Even if it’s a marriage of convenience, you don’t want it, and I want it even less."

Tang Shuwen tightened his grip on her wrist. Chen Xueru gave a cold laugh. "Tang Shuwen, is violence the only thing you know how to use against women?"

He recalled her despondent expression from last night and frowned, releasing Chen Xueru. He wouldn’t apologize for last night. Chen Xueru turned her face away. "Tang Shuwen, why should I humble myself before you? Why should I endure your inexplicable anger? And why should I forgive your repeated rudeness and harm towards me, even hurting my child? I have done nothing to wrong you. Years ago, you raped me, and that’s how Xiao Nian came to be. This child is my everything. If you don’t want him, I do. Neither he nor I deliberately entered your life. I can take him and disappear immediately. Xiao Nian and I will live in America, out of your sight. You can rest assured. You want to marry Miss Zhao? You can marry her happily. You don’t like seeing Xiao Nian? I won’t bring him into your lives. These past days, I’ve had enough."

"You’re not wrong? Is this my fault then?" Tang Shuwen asked sharply. "Years ago, you and Gu Rui conspired to trick me, taking the USB drive’s data, which led to the deaths of many of my brothers and heavy losses for Longmen. Is that what you call doing nothing wrong to me? Zhao Yuning and I were planning to get married, then you suddenly appeared in my life with a child. Yuning tried to commit suicide because of this, almost dying. Is that what you call not being wrong?"

Chen Xueru gave a cold laugh. "Years ago, why did you touch me? Aren’t you supposed to be so strong? You couldn’t even control your own desires and used me for release. What does your missing USB drive have to do with me? I was on your bed because Gu Rui, to save Han Bi, wanted to give me to a gang leader as his woman and forced me to drink something. I had no idea who was raping me. If your things went missing and you suffered heavy losses, that’s because you’re incompetent. Why blame a woman like me? And what does Zhao Yuning’s suicide attempt have to do with me? People break up every day in this world; do they all have to commit suicide? You blame me because she doesn’t value her life? What gives you the right? Do you think someone truly determined to die can be saved?"

Tang Shuwen raised his hand, poised to strike. Chen Xueru lifted her face, gazing at him with a mocking sneer. "Besides violence, what else do you have?"

He had never known that Chen Xueru could be so articulate, could retaliate so perfectly, and could confront him so bravely. He had always thought she was submissive.

It seemed he had truly enraged her last night, which was why she had become so fully armored.

Regarding the events of years ago, had he truly misunderstood her?

Did she genuinely know nothing?

Before he met Chen Xueru, he had only had dinner with Yuning, then went to a negotiation. He discovered the USB drive was missing after he woke up after having been with Chen Xueru. He had no idea when it disappeared.

He had always believed that Gu Rui had instructed Chen Xueru to use a honey trap to scheme against him.

Could he have been wrong?

Perhaps Chen Xueru was also a victim back then, betrayed by Gu Rui who had given her away, and that’s how she coincidentally met him.

Tang Shuwen dejectedly lowered his hand. Chen Xueru...

She tried to walk past him, but Tang Shuwen quickly grabbed her arm. Chen Xueru stood indifferently. "The marriage, it’s still on. You’re not leaving."

"I refuse."

"Even for Xiao Nian, you refuse?"

"You’ve always disliked Xiao Nian and never acknowledged him as your son, so why do you care about his feelings? You heard Xiao Nian say he wants to be with me. Your parents promised me they wouldn’t separate us. If I refuse to marry you, I can take the child, and they won’t stop me." Chen Xueru said, noting that Tang’s parents were quite open-minded.

Although Xiao Nian was the Tang family’s first grandson, and the Tang family had always had only a single heir, so a son was precious, they had no intention of separating mother and child. For this, Chen Xueru was very grateful.

Tang Shuwen tightened his grip on Chen Xueru’s arm. "My parents said they wouldn’t stop you, but they’re very reluctant to let Xiao Nian go. I don’t want to disappoint them. Name your terms. What will it take for you to stay and marry me?"

Chen Xueru gave a cold laugh. Tang Shuwen was determined to keep the child.

He had said the same thing when he initially proposed marriage—that he wanted the child.

"Regardless, I will not marry you," Chen Xueru stated firmly. Tang Shuwen’s face contorted in anger. He twisted her hand back, forcing Chen Xueru’s body to straighten and press closer to him.

"Chen Xueru, don’t push me. What Gu Rui can do, I can do too. What my parents promised you doesn’t mean I promised you. Whether I like or dislike this child, he is still my eldest son. I won’t let him leave with you, nor will I disappoint my parents. If you insist on not marrying me, Chen Xueru, we’ll see each other in court. You’re An Ning’s artist; it’ll be easy for me to blacklist you. Then you won’t even have a stable income to raise the child. Once it goes to court, you’ll definitely lose. By then, even if you beg me to marry you, I won’t even look at you." Tang Shuwen spoke coldly and mercilessly, his voice devoid of emotion, causing Chen Xueru’s face to turn pale.
