Chapter 100: Chapter 100: A Harsh Slap in the Face

In fact, Vera Xavier wasn’t the only one who was shocked; Zachary Preston and Rona Langdon were, too.

Before Zachary Preston could speak, Rona Langdon had already blurted out, "Absolutely not! How is Vera in any way worthy of Young Master Nathan?!"

Master Nathan chuckled. "I think Vera is quite wonderful. Nathaniel, what do you think?"

"She is quite good," Nathaniel Nathan replied, his expression impassive. He agreed with Master Nathan smoothly.

In his heart, he truly did think Vera Xavier was wonderful. She had the beauty of a porcelain doll, an excellent disposition, and outstanding grades. To him, she was perfect in every way.

Rona Langdon immediately began to list Vera Xavier’s faults. "What’s so good about her? She’s a girl from the countryside who knows nothing! And she has a terrible temper. When it comes to grades, she’s nowhere near as good as my other daughter, Cara..."

As she was speaking, Cara Preston returned home. Rona Langdon immediately said to her, "Cara, go get your test paper from last week’s exam. Show Master Nathan what real good grades look like."

Cara Preston hadn’t expected anyone to be home. When she turned her head and saw Nathaniel Nathan, she was overjoyed. ’Oh my God! It’s Nathaniel Nathan!’

’Nathaniel Nathan is actually at my house!’

Her eyes instantly lit up. Her first thought was whether she looked her best at that moment. She quickly began to straighten her hair and clothes, then said shyly, "Hello!"

Nathaniel Nathan couldn’t hide his disgust at her star-struck expression. He gave a slight nod out of politeness, but his entire demeanor remained as cold as ice.

Cara Preston, however, didn’t mind. In her mind, he had always been this cool and aloof. She was simply ecstatic. ’I can actually see Nathaniel Nathan this close up!’

At that moment, she felt that not going out with Elise Langdon today had been a brilliant decision!

Seeing Cara Preston’s behavior, Master Nathan was also filled with contempt. He immediately labeled her as shallow, star-struck, and a fool.

Zachary Preston also found Cara Preston’s behavior embarrassing and cleared his throat to remind her. Unfortunately, Cara’s attention was entirely on Nathaniel Nathan, and she completely missed her father’s cue.

Rona Langdon, however, found nothing embarrassing about Cara’s behavior. Instead, she said smugly, "This is our Cara. She grew up in the city, so she’s sharp and quick-witted. She’s also beautiful and kind-hearted, and her grades have always been first or second in her class."

Finished, she turned to Cara Preston and said, "Cara, get your test paper and show it to Master Nathan."

Cara Preston’s mind was completely occupied with Nathaniel Nathan, a total blank. Hearing Rona Langdon tell her to get her test paper, she obeyed without a second thought and brought it out.

Rona Langdon took the test papers and immediately started to praise her. "I’m not just bragging, but our Cara is exceptionally talented. She’s not only great with people, but her grades are always solidly in the top three of her class..."

Her words died in her throat as her gaze fell upon the papers. The sheet right on top was the one she had failed, covered in a cluster of glaring red X’s.

A flash of embarrassment crossed Rona Langdon’s face, but she was thick-skinned. She quickly gave a hollow laugh and tried to smooth things over. "This was just a fluke..."

She frantically flipped through a few more sheets, finally landing on Cara’s language arts test. "Cara’s language arts scores are always excellent! She’s always number one in her class..."
