The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 122: Delicate
Just then, Rona Langdon shouted from downstairs, "Dinner’s ready!"
Vera Xavier had expected Cara Preston to throw a fit and refuse to come down for dinner, then go crying to Rona Langdon about her. However, she had clearly underestimated Nathaniel Nathan’s allure.
To get another glimpse of Nathaniel Nathan, to linger by his side for just a moment longer, Cara Preston proved she could swallow any amount of pride.
Almost as soon as Rona Langdon finished shouting, Cara Preston opened her door and came out, her eyes red. She was naturally dainty, and her aggrieved expression made her look all the more pitiful and fragile.
She had put on this act for Nathaniel Nathan, hoping to win his sympathy, but he didn’t even give her a sideways glance. This only made her feel more heartbroken.
After the three of them came downstairs, Nathaniel Nathan said bluntly, "I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving."
"The meal is all ready. Why don’t you join us?" Rona Langdon said with a smile.
The more she looked at Nathaniel Nathan, the more pleased she was. The man was truly exceptional, and his family background was simply too good. Although she doted on her own son, she had to admit—whether she liked it or not—that he couldn’t hold a candle to Nathaniel Nathan.
What Cara Preston had told her last night had deeply affected her. The Nathan Family was a power they absolutely had to curry favor with and could not afford to offend. But she had already completely fallen out with Vera Xavier, so she knew Vera would never treat her well.
But she had raised Cara Preston herself. Though not her biological daughter, Cara was close to her. And since Cara had refused to return to the Xavier Family, the Preston Family was her only support.
If Cara Preston were to marry Nathaniel Nathan, the benefits for the Preston Family would be immense.
Nathaniel Nathan said faintly, "My grandfather is waiting for me for dinner."
With that, he strode out on his long legs. Rona Langdon quickly said, "Cara, go see Nathaniel out."
Cara Preston immediately agreed, but Nathaniel Nathan said coldly, "That’s not necessary. You should eat."
No matter how thick-skinned Cara Preston was, after being rejected by Nathaniel Nathan several times today, she didn’t have the courage to approach him again. She hesitated.
In that moment of hesitation, Nathaniel Nathan was already long gone.
Rona Langdon shot her a glare and cursed, "Hopeless!"
Cara Preston had already been nursing her grievances all day. Now that Nathaniel Nathan was gone, she dropped the act. With a loud "WAAAH," she burst into tears and ran upstairs.
Rona Langdon seethed with disappointment at the sight. Last night, Cara had talked such a big game, but when it came time for action, she was completely useless. How utterly embarrassing!
So she threw down her chopsticks as well. "I’m not eating either!"
Zachary Preston watched their antics with cold eyes, anger simmering within them.
Annoyed, Rona Langdon stood up, not forgetting to shoot a glare at Vera Xavier. "I must have owed you in a past life! You’re here to collect, aren’t you!"
Vera Xavier was used to Rona’s tirades and remained calm. With Zachary Preston there, she couldn’t exactly put Rona in her place. She had to take it, telling herself it was like being bitten by a dog—pointless to bite back.
Zachary Preston, however, completely lost it. He snatched up his chopsticks and threw them at Rona Langdon’s face. "Rona Langdon, what kind of mother are you? Vera hasn’t done a single thing today! Why are you taking your anger out on her?! And another thing—cut it out with those pathetic little schemes of yours and Cara’s. The one who saved Nathan was Vera. You’d better get that straight!"
He had been holding this in for days and finally couldn’t take it anymore. If he didn’t put a stop to it now, he was afraid their mistakes would only get more and more outrageous.
